Stayed at my dads last night and came home to a 420.
Guess its better than the other end of the spectrum.

So I go out to get my haircut last night back home and I fixed the laptop of the gal cutting my hair.. So she says, you see those tomatoes outside on the table? Take what you want! So I got a free haircut AND a pile of Tomatoes!
So we cut up and froze 40 cups worth last night, and still have a bunch left that aren't quite ripe.

Still have my sisters garden ready and another friends garden and its supposed to freeze tonight so they are picking like crazy. Now i need a good Pizza sauce recipe if anyone has a good one!

Yeah, its the one thing I can eat so I probably use 2-3 quarts a month to make lasagna, Spaghetti or homemade pizza so I'll take all I can get!

Want a good pizza sauce recipe though, right now I just use the spaghetti sauce for it.

Hey Brent,
I guess you don't want to put that 420 in the subject line this morning (I don't blame you!). I'll take a look later in my favorite cookbook, Marcella Hazan's The Art of Italian Cooking, and see what her sauce recipe is. (I always use bottled sauce made by a local Italian kitchen--much simpler!!). I hope Tigger comes down for you today.

Oh crud, I just added it, but you are right, I don't want to put 420 on there!

I have some allergies to some food ingredients (gluten, dairy, high fructose corn syrup, etc) so I am forced to buy more natural food and the Natural jars of sauce are like $7-$8 a jar! So I decided to can my own. And its kind of fun getting my dad and sisters family together. :-D

That would be great if you found some recipes! Thanks!

Tomato Sauce II (from Marcella Hazan, "The Classic Italian Cookbook" (New York, 1978), p. 94.

This sauce has a fresh, delicate flavor and ". . . is an excellent all-purpose sauce for every kind of pasta. . ."

For 6 servings:

2 pounds fresh, ripe plum tomatoes
2/3 cup chopped carrot
2/3 cup chopped celery
2/3 cup chopped onion
salt
1/4 teasp. granulated sugar
1/2 cup olive oil

1. Wash tomatoes in cold water. Cut in half, lengthwise. Cook in a stockpot or covered pan over medium heat for 10 minutes.
2. Add carrot, celery, onion, 2 teasp. salt, and sugar and cook at a steady simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
3. Puree everything through a food mill, return to the pan, add the olive oil, and cook at a steady simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes more. Taste and correct for salt.


I'm sure you can use regular tomatoes instead of plum tomatoes. It might change the flavor slightly, but will still be good. This is an excellent cookbook. I have never had a failure with anything I have made from it. Good luck!

Thanks for the recipe, the carrots kind of surprised me, first one i've seen with carrots in there. Wonder if that is a recipe that can be canned due to Celery and Carrots?

Jan Roberts-Dominguez is an incredible cook - she's got several cookbooks and a weekly column in our newspaper. This article just came out last wednesday - perfect timing. have fun with your cooking!

did tigger move at all today or is he still stuck at 420?
