Yesterday was much like her typical Lantus cycle, just offset a bit. Blue start to pink bounce then slide down at night.

9/13 Recap:
AMPS 132 +1.5 332 +5 328
PMPS 252 +2 244 +5 197 +9.5 118

The first time I tested Neko at +9.5, the meter said 75. Normally I'd be happy about that, but two thoughts went through my mind. 1) Is she going up or down, what did I miss? 2) I'm all dressed and ready for rowing, what do I do? With visions of skipping my favorite row (Saturday is long distance day), I waited 10 minutes and tested again and got 118. Phew! I had a suspicion the first was a bad test cause of some double dipping. Still wondering where she went in the night, but it was high enough and late enough to head out. Still planning an increase tomorrow since I didn't actually get a believable green.

As usual both cats were happy to see me when I got back late, but Neko didn't immediately go to the test spot and growled when I picked her up. And fussed during the test. Turns out she had to use the LB. Shot time was 25 minutes late, but fortunately Neko is one I can test, shoot and then feed to give me a couple extra minutes. I know she will eat. Neko has since forgiven me for this morning, we were just giving kitty kissed through the kitchen door to each other, with her in the solarium bed.

It's cloudy here, supposed to clear up soon and same tomorrow with rains starting late tomorrow. Today I'll be painting, in between making gelato for an Italian themed potluck in honour of the rowers who raced (and won medals) and the World Master's Games last month in Turino. Happy Caturday everyone.

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210

I happened to hit the SS for that brief flash of green.

Went back later with interest only to find it missing. I wondered if I imagined the whole thing.

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353

Big ouch on the daily pattern, but maybe there is an easy solution?

Almost everyone I know using Levemir is using a bolus... including most if not all acrocats? It's no substitute for the right dose of basal Levemir but it is a somewhat dependable approach to impact a cycle "on the fly" with rather predictable results. Without screwing up the depot. Most are using R, but I'm using NPH with Chip. N actually has the benefit of slightly longer duration and gentler action than R. And it's only $25 a vial at Walmart. Don't know if it is as well for you guys?

But I can keep hitting molecules of N every 6 hours (yellow or above) without much risk of surprise until Chip clears his bounce. Takes the edge off.

So perhaps a single drop of R (or N) after breakfast is all she'd need to shake the daily pink? You'd dose the Levemir to bring the blue or green you want for PM cycle and bolus the AM? Something to think about if she keeps this up forever.

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353

I think using "R" might be something to have in your toolbox at some point in time but I think I'd really give her a chance on lev alone for just a bit so you can actually see what her patterns are. It really can take weeks to see a difference and I'd give it a little time first. IMHO ;-) But, Dale is right that it could be very useful for Neko once you see how her cycles shake out.

Gracie (who weighs 8 lbs BTW to answer your ?), would like her Lev Soul Sista to join her for a race to the lagoon. Time to onset Neko!!!

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353

Some people have difficulty knowing the right time to bolus because their cats are so unpredictable. But Neko seems almost as reliable as death and taxes. :-D

The nice thing about the bolus is the nearly instant results and only risking 4 or 5 hours of your time. No long term negative impacts on the dose (perhaps a bigger bounce if you over do it or aborting the cycle should they drop too low) but you can always stop if it you don't like it.

I should note it's only for advanced users with lots of data.

I agree you do need to establish more of a baseline for Levemir first. But I sure regret leaving Chip flat pink for more than a month when I started Levermir, and not knowing anything I could do about it.

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353

@Dale - I was elated to see that 75 so put it up quickly but it was only there very briefly. Good eyes. I've thought about and decided not to use R right now. Sometimes Neko's bounces last 6 hours, sometimes 2 cycles. Not really predictable. NPH wouldn't work with longer duration. I'd really like a 2-4 hour bolus. ;-) With Lantus when I was on a better dose, I was getting her bounces to yellow. She doesn't always do an AM bounce, just most of the time. If I wait an bit to see if she's gonna bounce, it might be too late to apply it.

@Marje - What a petite little girl Gracie is! The L is LBG is well deserved. Neko might have some Coonie in her and combined with acromegaly she's just a bit bigger. 14lb last weigh in. We got Neko at 11 months old, don't think she was ever 8 lbs in our house.

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353

Hi Wendy :-D

I am so glad that you got to make your row today - a distance one too! that had to have been nice. Happy too that the weather wasn't a deterrent. We have had such fog the past few days, well into the mid afternoon hours. We are due for rains late tomorrow too. ;-)

Good luck with the dosecrease tomorrow. I hope that goes well, lowers things down some. Work the juice Neko!

Too funny on the needed LB this morning. I had that happen a couple of times with Mannie too.

Good decision on the R. IMHO. Her cycle unpredictability is the deciding factor. again imho.

Enjoy the rest of the day, and the potluck!

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353

Neko looks like she's got some MC in her - what a gorgeous girl.

Sorry I can't help you with dosing, Wendy - but I can commiserate with the bouncing! Good catch on that flash of green  & I'm glad you got your rowing in! For our exercise today, we watched the America's Cup

If you have any leftover gelato - it's one of my favorites! :thumbup Probably wouldn't hold up well in the mail, would it :YMSIGH:

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353 +8 194

+8 194
And we say good bye to this morning's bounce. I suspected Neko was coming down. She came into the kitchen. Or it could have been the smell from the cream in the gelato. Before FD she got to lick remnants in ice cream dishes. The ones we use have a particular sound when you put spoons in them, and the sounds still gets her running.

@Michelle - We lucked out on the weather this morning. The fog was above us. Clouds just cleared here a few minutes ago to sunny skies. I was debating a dosecrease either tonight or this morning, but since I'm going out for dinner and she's dropping, I think I'll do it in the AM. Neko's usually pretty good when I pick her up for a test. It's quite unusual for her to fuss.

@Suzanne - I also watched the America's Cup today. Quite the tilt from the Kiwi boat. Too bad they had to cancel the last race. Dosing is pretty easy with Neko. If I don't get at least some green, up she goes. My goal is also to have the 2 week average on her meter read under 200. I've made the chocolate hazelnut gelato and am almost done the fresh strawberry. Got a preference?

Re: 9/14 Neko AMPS 210 +4.5 353 +8 194

Hi Wendy,
Nice +8 number.
I really hope that levemir will start working better for Neko soon.
It's still possible that she will be less bouncy on lev, isn't it?

So cute about Neko and ice cream.
Ginger comes running when I take a certain plate down from the cupboard, the one I use to give her treaty snacks.
They really have good ears.

That was nice of you to let your bean go rowing this morning, Neko. Now how about a nice surf so she can sleep?

Maybe tonight will be the night?

I'll go on the record now and boldly predict that if you stick with Levemir, you'll eventually try a bolus. ;-)

  Wendy - you sound like me! Well, not the rowing part since I'm afraid of water, but the oh, no, did I miss something? Wonder if he's going up or down....And, what should I do? Go? Stay (but I really want/need to go)? Feed?

I listened to myself talking to Hershey today, telling him to slow down on the drops and then had to tell him that yes, I know I can't be pleased. 'Greens or it's time for an increase.' (Get greens) 'Ease up on the drops.' Crazy bean just can't be pleased!!

I hope Neko settles in and decides she likes Lev and that y'all are having a great night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)
