ohmygod_smile Here we go again. I debated how to handle his cycle last night. I did feed him a little early at 3.5 (based on the 118 being a pretty steep drop from an hour prior), then gave him 2tsp of lc at bedtime when he was down to 80. Probably should have checked again in an hour, rather than 2hrs. He may have gone lower since he doesn't always get a big food spike... but with both a meal and some extra food in such a short time, I figured it was fine. Two hours later he was higher, but not super high... then this morning I get "greeted" by the darned meter.

I was really hoping he wouldn't bounce from the 80, since he didn't on the 116 the other night.

I'm not sure how to handle these fast drops. LC doesn't seem to give him enough to slow the drop. But I'm reluctant to give hc when it's not an emergency situation. I guess I could try getting some small cans of a high quality mc for this purpose. I have FF gravy lovers for hc... but it's basically "medicine" in my book - it's not a food I'd want to feed regularly. But perhaps a mc food of high quality would be good for this. Open to suggestions. Should I just let him bounce? It seems like we were making progress by preventing the bounces, though also preventing great nadirs.

Re: 9/13 Tink AMPS "HI" - +2=451, +4=442 Darn it!!

Yikes! Settle down Tink.

Tink got a double whammy last night, greens AND a fast drop. I think if you see a +2 that is lower than PS, like last night, you might want to try giving a little higher carb food at that time. Even trying some 8-9% LC might help slow him down some. Or you may need to try MC. You'll just have to experiment with what works. I've recently switched to Merck Cowboy Cookout (18%) for HC. Better ingredients and no gluten which isn't great for Neko's GI system.

Re: 9/13 Tink AMPS "HI" - +2=451, +4=442 Darn it!!

Yeah, I guess that's what I meant by mc... to me (and Tink) even 6-8% carbs seemed to make a big difference - though that was back in "round 1", but I'd assume it still holds true. I'll put it on my list for the next run to the feed store or pet store. Both sell the better quality foods, so at least that's nice.

Good point about the combination of fast & green. Guess that was a bit much for him. I just hate when we get these bounces on my days off because I feel like it doesn't let me see the "real" cycle - which I NEED to see before leaving him on his own all day with nobody to intervene if things drop too low.

Though I guess that's another good reason to get DD test-ready. She's here till about +6 - which should be long enough to catch any major problems. If he's going to go low, it seems to happen pretty early.

Hi Jen, I was going to ask if you re-tested when you got that Hi reading, but see on your ss that you did get another test! ohmygod_smile Hopefully, Tink is sliding down comfortably by now! That was a hard drop last night, I was also wondering if it wasn't a little of NDW as well, but no matter. Good luck with the food experimentation. Doesn't Wellness have something medium carb?

Re: 9/13 Tink AMPS "HI" - +2=451, +4=442 Darn it!!

Going from 264 to 80 by +3 is a big, fast drop. I wouldn't be too concerned by the bounce. Let's see where Tink is this evening. How quickly he clears a bounce is also good information.

Re: 9/13 Tink PMPS 263, +2 180 - and DOWN we go!

80 was at +4.5 - but still, that's a pretty fast drop.

Well, the bounce seemed to be clearing as of PMPS (293)... and now we're plummeting again (180 @ +2). I just gave him 10 pieces of Evo kibble. I dont have any medium carb right now, so it was either that or FF gravy lovers. If I remember correctly when I got it (back when Tink was first diagnosed), folks here said it was 8% carbs (though more recently I've heard it's higher, so not sure if the old calculation was wrong or if they changed the formula). I'll test again in a bit and see how it's working to slow him down.

I'm sure Wellness has something mc... I know I feed the 3 flavors I feed because they're the lowest carb options. I just want teeny tiny cans of mc though - since I wont use it all if it's a bigger can like I get in the lc. Just haven't gotten to the store yet. On the bright side, he'll eat ANYTHING these days... so at least I wont have to go through the brands to find something he'll eat like we did before.

Re: 9/13 Tink AMPS "HI" - PMPS 263, PM+2=180 DOWN we go!

Hmm... 10pc didn't do much. It's just shy of +3 (last test was a little after +2 - it's been about 40min since he ate the kibble) and he's down to 131. Just gave 20 more pieces and will retest in .5. Will break out the hc if he hasn't flattened out a bit.

Re: 9/13 Tink AMPS "HI" - PMPS 263, PM+2=180, +3=131 DOWN we

Ok 20 pc (total of 30pc) has him holding steady now. Still at 132 @ +3.5

Regular mealtime in 30min.

I don't mind if he drops a tad lower, just didn't want him to drop that fast.

EASY DOES IT sTINKer.

Dry food can take a while to take affect. You could always mix 1/2 LC with 1/2 HC to get MC. Wellness Chicken/Lobster is MC.
