happy kitter this morning - tail held high and all fluffy "follow me to the fud spot." today he has blood and urine tests to see how he is in prep for the SRT at Colorado State on Monday.

i gave him extra extra water in his food so hopefully there will be plenty in his bladder for the cystocentesis (sp? needle in the bladder) in an hour and a half. i'm a little worried that he's gonna pee in the car or on me when we get to the vet's - that's happened multiple times since diagnosis unless i put his box in the car. but the vet wants me to keep back the box so he can get a urine sample. perhaps i'll wear my vinyl clothes this morning.

test results come back tomorrow and if all is well we leave on saturday.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228

Good morning! Hope all goes well to, at and from the vet's. Good job, Punkin! You are a very brave boy.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228

Good luck with the vet today!!! Hold it in Punkin till they want it!! Tarragon peed all over the vet tech a couple of times.

  @ the vinyl clothes!

Good luck at the vetty for the bloodwork Punkin....be brave!

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

they had to give him sevoflurane to get the cystocentesis done - the vet said punkin was mad and not cooperating with getting the urine draw, so he "gave him a bit of gas" to relax him. when i picked him up it was an hour after his regular second breakfast and he was 108. i wasn't thinking about the gas, just about the numbers and the fact that he's lost 11 oz, so i gave him a can of FF - which he only ate a bit of and then threw it up.

yikes. i'll test him again in a few minutes.

and i don't know what happened, but somehow while at the vet's he's got poo on his bum - i tried to clean him with just a wipe as soon as we got home but he wouldn't have any of it. so i let him go to feed him.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

anesthesia can cause nausea, and eat up BGs. easy does it with food.
Feel better Punkin! You guys have had quite a day. . .

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

Does "a bit of gas" mean anesthesia? If so, that would be the barf, I guess. I hope little bits of food will stay down!

Anesthesia can lower BG, so maybe you'll want to get another test soon.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting +5/105

ah jeez. i hate this stuff. the poor guy. he's at 105, so perhaps he's surfing. i hope he doesn't go any lower today. he's peed on the floor in 3 different places - i have him trapped in the living room/dining room with a temporary box. the urine is somewhat bloody - called the vet and they said that's normal after the cystocentesis.

is that true?

guess i'll wait a half hour and try again to give him a tiny bit of food.

thanks for the help - i have so lost confidence in my vet i almost took him back out this morning and didn't leave him for the tests.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

Oh Julie.... Poor Punkin..... Hang in there. Tests suck but hopefully Punkin will be feeling better later today.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

yesterday i sent him the new spreadsheet link (squeem tweaked things for me so it's a "pub" instead of a "ccc" doc) and he sent me back an email saying that the "chart" looked good - meaning the ss. then this morning he asked me what punkin's dose is now, "about 9?" and my heart just sunk. i said he's at 15. what that meant was that he didn't even look to the bottom of the spreadsheet to see the current info.

then when he called and said they gave him the bit of gas to calm him - i was thinking "i shot his full amount of insulin this morning because they told me they didn't think they'd need anesthetic."

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

Sorry to hear all of this but I am sure the urine draw can cause some blood though it has not ever happened to Morgaine. Anesthesia can definitely cause nausea and it is usually suggested that one not eat much right after. The vet should have mentioned that to you. I know how you feel about vets too. i have had my share of doubts and am srill searching for someone to follow Morgaine and support my treatment of her FD fully. Hang in there and hopefully the labs will come back fine and you can go ahead and follow through with your plans. We are crossing all paws for you and Punkin.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting

I'm so very sorry you guys are having a rough afternoon. I won't even start on the "losing confidence" issue...been there sooooo many times that I could go on for ages about it, so I deeply sympathize. Please feel better ASAP, Punkin!

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet, vomiting +5/105

Sorry to hear you guys are having a ickful day - it doesn't sounds fun.

You may notice a small amount of blood in the urine for today, but this shouldn't last long. A gross amount or frank red blood should be reported.

That vomiting is probably just coming from the anesthesia... that too should pass fairly quickly.
Take a peek at his belly to make sure it doesn't look distended or bigger than normal (it would also feel hard). If he's vomiting with a big swollen belly, that would be reason for concern and a reportable event.

I imagine he just needs a little TLC tonight to recuperate from the drugs - I have a dog that is wiped after any sort of anesthesia. We're sending healing restful thoughts your way!

aw, thanks. i know you all understand. not everyone understands crazy cat people.

he seems better - i washed his back half in the bathtub. couldn't figure out where else was big enough except the kitchen sink, and for some reason i'm not keen on having poo in the kitchen sink . . . anyway, i got him cleaned up. so much dirt came off of him that i thought i'll give him a full bath later when he's feeling better.

i've given him 3 meals 1/2 hr apart with a tiny bit of his regular food on each. so far so good. he seems to be surfing - also good.

Re: 9/13 punkin amps 228 +4/108 bk from vet+5 /105 +6/109 be

Hi Julie & Punkin,
I'm so sorry that Punkin had a rough time at the vet's today. Maybe it's time to find a new vet? I am so glad we made the switch to a new vet. Yes, blood in the urine is often caused by cystocentesis. Sienne says so, and yesterday I asked Rusty's vet if the blood noted on his urinalysis report was caused by the cyctocentesis needle and she said yes. So unless there is a lot of blood, I would not worry.
Bummer that Punkin had to be gassed. I hope that he will feel better and better as the day goes on and that he'll be able to keep his food down.
Fingers and paws crossed that he will be a candidate for the radiation treatment. Thinking of you and sending healing vines to Punkin.

 We're sorry that you and Punkin had such a rough day. That is very frustrating and scary. I hope he and you feel better soon.

the punkerdoodle feels it & appreciates it! he seems to be doing better. still hanging by me, giving him a tablespoon or so at a time. he seems to be past the nausea now, maybe. as far as i can tell.

he looks like something i dragged in off the street - his hair is stringy from me washing it and he hasn't groomed it to dry or refluff it. i'll try combing him again later. i combed him this morning before we went and he still managed to totally encase me in cat hair by the time i got back from the vet's. crazy ability of cats to blow out their hair when they get worked up. but at least he seems to be feeling better.

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

We are so sorry you and punkin had such a tough day. Glad he's feeling better and we have fingers and paws crossed the results get you that much closer to SRT. Take care...wine always helps me...just a thought...do something nice for you too.

like a stupid-head i told someone yes when they asked me if i would do childcare (special needs kids) for a meeting tonight. i know several of the kids and kinda felt like i should say yes, and now i don't want to. wanna stay with my punkins! but i can't back out, plus the DH will be home about the same time i leave, so punkin'll be in good hands.

he really does seem much better, other than the bad hair. still giving little bites of food.

Oh poor Punkin; I'm just catching up on Vetty report. I hope he feels better soon. Sounds like punkin needs some r&r tonight, and I wish you could, too. More healing vines for Punkin and hugs for you.

I'm glad Punkin is feeling better. J.D. had some blood in his urine cause by cystocentesis.
I am hoping and praying that Punkin is soon on his way to Colorado for his SRT.

Sorry there was some drama around the tests today. I'm sure after a nice cat nap your Punkin will be feeling better.
I'm sure you're nervous about the tests, too, so I hope you get good results back, and quickly.

oh my... POOR PUNKIN! I am just getting to condos now, and missed all this today. I am sorry for all the trouble at the vet. I am especially sorry to read that the vet didn't even really look at his SS. What a shame... I am glad thought that Punkin is feeling better. Good luck with all on Saturday. I am anxious to hear all about it, hope all goes well for Punkin.

What a nice flat blue surf today - even with all that went on. I hope he has a good night.

I'm also just getting to condos and I'm so sorry Punkinman had such a tough day. That would make me FURIOUS that the vet gave a FD acro kitty gas with no discussion with you. I think I'd also be looking for a new vet. And what he said about the SS....inexcusable that he wouldn't note his current dose.

I hope tonight goes well for you. Try not to worry. HUGS.

(((Punkin))) (((Julie))) What an awful time for you both. Even a good visit wipes them out emotionally, never mind a rough one. A good night's sleep will do you both a world of good. A little extra water wouldn't be a bad idea. Tomorrow will be better. I hope the results are what you want to hear.
