    Yesterday's thread

I genuinely wasn't expecting that big of a drop at +2. I didn't test at +1 today because Kit has a vet appointment at 9 am (so an hour from now at +3), and I needed to give her the gabapentin she gets to keep her calmer during the vet visit. I'd usually give it at 6 am for a 9 am visit, but she hates the gabapentin, and will occasionally throw it up, and I would need to test feed shoot and then give gabapentin (reverse order would have made insulin rough because she wants nothing to do with me for a bit after the liquid gabapentin - she loathes it). She ate at shot time, and then I heard her eat again at just before +1, so I felt pretty good about the amount of food in her.

Long story short/tldr - I sort of assumed she'd be higher because of liquid gaba stress/actually having eaten more this morning than usual. Such a weird cat. We'll see what her numbers are after her vet appointment.

I'm wondering - Kit's numbers trending up at preshots starting happening in the last week or so, which coincides with her most recent decrease, but also coincides with the final week before her next monthly Solensia shot she got this morning. This is only her third shot, and the vet and I were talking that sometimes after the first 3 or 4 shots, it starts to work longer. I've noticed that by the 4th week after each shot she seems to be a bit stiffer in movement, and has a harder time climbing the steps up to the bed. Just spitballing - could her numbers rise in that fourth week some because her arthritis is causing her more pain? And the nadirs are good because she's also on transdermal gabapentin, and she get's that at +2, so by the it kicks in, the numbers start to come down for nadirs? Just a thought I was thinking this morning.

:bighug::bighug:I hope you got some answers at the vet today, Alicia. Hope Kit is feeling good after the vet visit.
We have to use gabapentin and trazodone to visit the vet, too. Miss Ivy is not a good patient.

Kit is definitely a spicy cat - the gabapentin at least reduces it to growls, and her numbers stayed pretty consistent for the couple of hours following, which I was pretty happy about. Luckily, our vet is super quick with the claw trims, and had the whole visit done in maybe 15 minutes? And it's a home visit, so Kit doesn't have to get stressed by a car ride. And the vet said she seems like she's in good shape! She always comments on how if you didn't know Kit was 16 with diabetes and kidney disease, you wouldn't guess it by how good she looks and how strong she is. It's the tortitude. :joyful::joyful:

Wow you are so lucky to have a home visit. That’s so great for both you and Kit. I’m so glad they said she looks so good!

What I would give to find that. Ivy is a mess to take to the vet. She’s soooo angry. Tortitude! Definitely :cat:

I am so eternally grateful to have found this vet. If Kit is in the car for longer than 5 minutes, she'll pee, poop, or both. And that is unpleasant. And then she's so stressed at the vet because it's scary.

The bf was home until +7 - fed her at +6 and then picked up her food before he left at +7. Tomorrow I'll set up the autofeeder and see how she does with that for her last snack around +6? I know that sometimes at smaller doses a small snack at +9 can be used to bring numbers down. Is that for doses below 0.5?

I know with Cleo when she has a FIC flare-up her BG is higher from the stress and the pain. You might be on to something about the solensia shot wearing off and her pain increasing thereby elevating BGs. I'd keep track of the trends and see if it happens again after her next shot.
