Good Morning, Everyone,

WCR: Stu had one of his famous drops at +2.5 so I fed him some 8%. (Are you watching, Tess?) He's not too hungry this morning, but has eaten 3 small installments of breakfast and has gone outside to look for the chipmunk (he walked on top of the entire length of a stone garden wall, looking in every crack). Litterbox has received one of its contributions and we are waiting for the other. Not interested in playing indoors (the chipmunk is more interesting; but of course Chip-chip is laying low).

Today is the finish of the 90-mile canoe race. Weather is not ideal: cold, cloudy, windy, with rain on the way for the afternoon. I sure hope our friends will do OK. Yesterday the guy we are pit-crewing for and another friend, who is doing her first 90 miler, just made the cut-off time (by 4 minutes) and were allowed to finish the day's segment of the race!! (Our guy, who is doing his 14th 90-miler, stayed with our other friend to provide encouragement.) Today's segment has 3 large lakes to cross, 1 smaller lake, and 1 river and it could be tricky with a south wind. But there are only a few short portages (two of them around locks; the paddlers in the race are not allowed to use the locks). We'll be heading over to the finish line in a couple of hours to watch the first boats come in and then to wait a few more hours for our friends to come in.

Hope everyone has a good day and sending lots of snowflakes to Kasha and Tori today.

Ella & Stu

Nice WCR, Ella. I hope Stu will settle down and surf so you can go to the finish line.

I guess he wanted more gravy. 54 at +4. Fed some 12% Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
The weather is continuing to deteriorate.

Oh Ella, I thought about you when I woke this nasty morning. This is definately bundle-up weather. I don't envy the paddlers in this cold and wind.
Looks like Stu wanted gravy, all right. He knew how to get it, didn't he?
And don't be using him to get out of going back to camp. You're bringing food, right? You gotta go. :-D

Re: 9/12 Stu AMPS 220, +2.5 113, +4 54, +5 56

Hi again, After the 12% at +4, Stu is holding his own at +5. Fed some more 12% and since we are at, or approaching, nadir, I think we'll be OK.
Yes, Barb, the weather is really nasty. We don't have to go back to camp today, however. The finish of the race is about a mile from our house in Saranac Lake Village. (Camp is on Indian Lake, about 70 miles south of here in the Central Adirondacks.) Yes, we'll have food for our friends who are finishing the race, and I hope that today they ate more along the way than they did yesterday. We are worried about them. Conditions today are really awful. We're about to head out to the finish line as soon as we have lunch and give Stu another test.

Good luck for your friends on the lake. I wish you could send some of the cooler wet weather down here, we are so dry, dry, dry.

And Stu, eat your lunch and surf for your momma bean, k?

Re: 9/12 Stu AMPS 220, +2.5 113, +4 54, +5 56

Ella, I love the Adirondacks. I was there the day before my son was born. What I remember most about the day, was I heard on the radio that my favorite country singer, Jim Reeves had died. That spoiled the day for me, that time. We always went in summer's gorgeous weather, though, not this. Yuck

Good luck to all the racers - I hope they are safe, and can finish the race without any problems. So nice that you will be there for them with the food that no doubt they will need.

Nice greens for Stu. At this point I'd have to be giving Mannie the 18% extra gravy stuff. ECID, huh.

Hey STU! DUDE! slow down buddy! No scuba diving today - OK? No showing Blackie and Tess how it's done... :o I am on my way - cookin' stuff in tow,and don't want to have to rescue 3 of my buddies from the depths of the deep... See you soon! ~~ Mannie

Re: 9/12 Stu PMPS 246

Hi again,

The canoe race is over. Today was the hardest day (and usually Day 3 is the easiest). There were 4-foot waves on Upper Saranac Lake and numerous capsizings. Fortunately our friends did OK, but they were certainly tired and chilled at the finish. The weather felt like November! The guy on the surfboard was still standing at the finish! I don't know how he did it.

Stu had a nice afternoon getting preparations made for the two parties tonight. The kitchen crew has assembled and they are on their way. PMPS might be a bit of a bounce from the greens of the morning, but it's not too bad. We had a fire in the stove when we got back from the race at about 5 P.M. and Stu enjoyed sitting in front of it.

Everyone have a good evening,

Ella & Stu

Re: 9/12 Stu PMPS 246

omg - the surf guy made it? impressed. It sounds like today was a challenge to all that raced. I can't imagine 4 foot waves, and all that wind and rain. and the surf guy made it? how???

wonderful on the fire in the stove. very nice. Mannie went yellow too - part of me is glad - at least i can sleep tonight.

Oh my, sorry to hear that the weather was so bad for the end of the race! I'm glad your friends finished up ok, and WOW on the guy on the surfboard! He must be a tough competitor to get through all that!

Stu looks good, nice blue +4 so you can get some sleep! Have a nice night!
