Hello LL! It’s been a busy summer at work, I'm totally pooped. I’ve been lurking and saying hello on condos when I can but keep forgetting to do a Chyna condo. I’ve seen lots of OTJ trials which I celebrated and some very sad losses which my heart broke for. So I’m very sorry for anyone I missed sending my condolences to.

Chyna seems to be doing well, all her Ps are in place and we’re almost at 6 months OTJ  ! I don’t see unusual behavior, she is acting happy, breath doesn’t smell bad, but she seems a bit more itchy again. For the past week or so the glucose has gone up into low blues so I’m a bit worried and testing every few days. The only thing different was the tsps of (plain) yogurt she was getting as a probiotic (with Astros scrub) that I thought maybe made BG go up so I stopped the yogurt 9 days ago (I was giving it for six days and then we hit a blue) but am still seeing blue today (BG 104). I’ll have to look at different probiotics, forti flora makes her constipated and she already has that from the CKD.

Chyna is due for her 3 month bloodwork to see how her kidneys are doing but unfortunately my car broke down and took every last cent I had to fix so I’m trying to figure out how to get the $$$ for the vet. Bloodwork alone is $150 and I’d like a checkup too which is another $80 so I can get subq supplies that he wanted me to wait for last appointment. I asked about a mini blood panel but it’s only $20 less than the main one, sigh. Other vets in town are similar pricing and they don’t do payment plans. I will never ever have a cat again without insurance, hindsight is always great

She has been gaining weight so I stopped one 1/8 of a can a day to see if that can bring it down a bit since she is looking a little chunky and I know that can bring them out of remission too. So far it’s been a week of the little bit of less food and she held steady at her current weight. She’d stopped eating and lost weight at one point but now that she is on Pepcid AC her appetite is mostly CPC. Trying to balance CKD and Diabetes is a challenge which many of you understand I know!

A happy appy story: Chyna sleeps quite often at night next to my bed at the top of her cat ramp. Her timer is set for food at 4am and a few nights ago I woke up just before that for a bathroom visit, went back to bed and petted and kissed Chyna (of course) so she was purring. Then I laid down to go back to sleep and heard the timer go off. Chynas purring got super loud and she promptly went down the ramp to the auto timer to eat. It made me smile :-D . Anyways hope you are all doing well, sending vines to all beans and kitties who need them! Purrs and Hugs!

PS: Chyna will always find the sun, no matter how small the patch

Yay, a Chyna condo! I'm glad you posted an update - I love how she racheted up the purring when she heard the food timer! Ick, bad timing for the car to break down, hope you can find a whole bunch of loonies in the couch or something ;-)

Oh I love that picture in the sun. Mine does the same.... we just don't get many beams in the house.

I haven't been doing the timed feeder because my DH complains about the sound.... and it's pretty quiet. I can't have it next to me any more...
Glad Chyna likes it so.

Sienne recommends pearls for a probiotic. http://www.amazon.com/Enzymatic-The...ules/dp/B000BQ8ATQ/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20

I have some but haven't used it yet. But it's a really small hard capsule, easy to butter and slip down their throat.
Maybe you can find it.

It's great to see a Chyna update...what a beautiful picture! And, I love how she ramps up her purring when she hears the timer go off for her feeder :-D !! It sounds like she is doing wonderfully, which is fabulous to hear!

It's nice to visit a Chyna condo! She's doing so well!   You stay in the lagoon, Chyna, don't worry your bean. Great picture! :-D :-D You are using plain yogurt? Even so, it does have some sugar in it. :-x

What a great WCR (well Chyna report) and we've missed you but just want you to visit and not rent a condo here!!! Chyna is as beautiful as ever. I hope you get only good news with the bloodwork when you can do it.

What a great report -- it made me smile!!

If Chyna is itchy from allergies, that may be why her numbers are up a bit. My vet recommended the following:
There are several options—there is a product called Allerderm which is applied once weekly to the skin which can be quite helpful for itchy or dry skin. Additional fish oil omega-3 fatty acids, 200-250 mg daily, are often helpful, but may take up to 2 weeks to really have an effect. Antihistamines are often helpful—we seem to have the best success with Zyrtec, which is over-the-counter, or hydroxyzine which is a prescription medication.

We have Allerderm here, but you may be able to order it online. Zyrtec dosage is ½ of a 10 mg tablet by mouth (in food…) twice daily, or about every 12 hours, try for 7 days. Watch for drowsiness or restlessness, although side effects from Zyrtec are not likely or are very mild. Use plain Zyrtec, or cetirizine, only—no combo meds. The fish oil product we use is AllerG3, or you can use human products.
If you go the fish oil route, Nordic Naturals makes a good brand for cats. Ella and Marje use an allergy product called Allerplex.

Hi Rachel,
I'm glad to hear that Chyna's doing great and being happy. :-D
I love the photo of her in the sunny patch!

Aww what a sweet girl, sunning in a patch of beams  :-D :-D
It's so good to get a Chyna update! I can't believe it's been almost 6 months OTJ already!

Awwww, love the sunny picture and the great update on Chyna! Keeping my fingers (and Shasta's paws) crossed that the elevated numbers are nothing and hoping you get a good vetty visit soon. Thanks for checking in on Shasta today.

Thanks for the visits everyone:) I need to get on the board more, we just need more time in a day!

Papayas Amy, I will check the couch for loonies (can you tell we're Canadian?)

Rhiannon, thanks for the info, I will check into the pearls...don't suppose you know offhand what the dose would be? I'm supposed to give probiotic with the scrub twice daily...ah well I will have to see if I can get them here first then worry ;-) I was worried about the feeder when I first got it but it didn't take her any time at all to discover it had fuds!

Trixies Amy, thanks for the comments and visit, I think all pictures she is in are beautiful but I think I'm biased :-D

Liz, I will tell Chyna to listen to her auntie and stay down in the lagoon  . Yes, just plain yogurt so I'm hoping that was it...

Marje, thanks for all the hugs, I don't want a perma condo again as much as I love the board and all of you ;-) When I get bloodwork I'm sure I will be posting it for help understanding it, lol.

Sienne, I do have her on Astros CRF oil which is the fish oils (EPH/DHA/CoQ10/vit E) so I'm hoping that would help the allergies if any, maybe it isn't enough. I'll check into/ talk to my vet about the Allerderm/Zyrtec/Allerplex, thanks for the info:)

Mariko, thanks for the well wishes, she does love the sun unlike her bean who wilts in the heat!

Josie, I know I can't believe it's been that long too, I'm happy you visited my condo! I'm thankful for every day I have with her.

Deborah, thanks for the paws crossed, I'm hoping to get to the vet sooooon. Although I'm sure Chyna does not agree on that one

Hugs to all in LL tonight, I'm for bed soon, surf safely for your beans little ones:)

Thanks for visiting us earlier today Rachel. I hope you guys missed the awful rains they had down south earlier this summer. I was worrying about our Alberta kitties and beans when I read about it.

Scritches to the sunshine lover from me. Good to hear how well she is doing.

Thanks picknickchick, I have a soft spot for torties ;-) Eh, well ok I love all kitties cat_pet_icon

Wendy, we are about 8hrs north of all the flooding so we were ok and just watched it on the news but I do know people who were in the middle of it and it was a mess! I was thinking of all the poor animals too (funny how I was thinking of animals instead of the people first ohmygod_smile ) Grateful that I live in an area with no rivers etc when I see that sort of thing although we did have a lot of rain, I thought I was living in Vancouver  . Although as I told you in your condo one day, I do miss visiting the ocean like you get to, if I ever get to Van to visit my sister I will tell you  Long gone are the days when I got free vacations with my parents to visit all my moms family down there ;-)
