9/12 Oliver amps 164,57+3, 37+4,47+5,62+6,82+7, PMPS 156,177+3

Shelley --

It looks to me like Oliver is quite capable of having early nadirs. You're often seeing a nadir, at least during the AM cycle, by +4. The PM cycle isn't quite as clear. Gabby was very similar -- I could see nadirs between +2 and +4. I'd like to make a couple of suggestions.
  • First, I'd get a test earlier in the cycle. You're routinely testing at +3. That works great for a cat who has a nadir that's closer to the middle of the cycle. If your cat has an early nadir, testing at +3 and finding that your kitty has already dropped low can give you a panic attack! Getting a +1 or +2 may give you more information as to whether numbers are already dropping.
  • While Oliver is dropping, his pre-shot numbers haven't flattened out. You want to think in terms of trying to prevent a dose reduction. Again, earlier testing will tell you if you need to start bumping up numbers with food. You're hoping to see low blues and greens during the cycle and low blues at pre-shot. You're already seeing a remarkable change from when Oliver first started out. You want to get the pre-shot numbers to start trending lower.
  • If you're not already doing so, you may want to "front load" the cycle with food. I would feed Gabby at pre-shot, +1, +2, and some days at +3. Obviously, if numbers dictated, she got more food to keep the numbers propped up. At some point, Oliver will get tired of the dose and numbers will drop despite your intervening.

-yes, Oliver typically hits his nadir in the morning. That’s when he had his symptomatic hypo back in January. I started testing at plus 2, but it was suggested here, some time ago that I move to plus 3 so I could get a better understanding where he was going. But things are totally different now, so I will try +2 again.

-as far as food goes, I always feed immediately after preshot blood test, while I get his syringe ready, and he free feeds pate all day until the 2 hour period before shot.

Thank you for the advice!

I actually said “wow” out loud to an empty room when I saw that 37. Geesh Oliver.

Do you think you might be seeing lower numbers while traveling and/or while staying at your daughter’s house compared to when you’re at home? It vaguely feels that way but I’m not clear about that. (If you think there’s any correlation, you might add a location note to the spreadsheet.)

How are you feeling about consistency of dose? At those low doses, it can get tricky. You might want to look into calipers.

I agree that things might be different now than in the earlier days, though it seems he still likes those surprise big drops. It’ll be interesting to see what his patterns are these days in various parts of the cycle. FD can be such an adventure.

Hugs to you and Oliver.

This is the first time he has dropped too low on me at the kids house, so I don’t think there is a pattern (yet).

I have been thinking I need to break down and buy calipers, because it IS so hard to be consistent and I’m probably not doing anyone any favors.

Is there a good pair on Amazon that someone can link for me? I think I received instructions from one of you on how to use them and I’ll go back and check. See if I can find them.

Thanks for the help. I’m going to do a location note as you suggest. There may be a pattern snd I don’t see it yet

You want a 6-inch digital caliper. I ordered from Harbor Freight. You can look at the ones on their website and get one that's comparable on Amazon.

I just want to check something. You said:

. There is a nadir in each cycle. The nadir is the lowest point in each cycle -- it's not a once a day thing.

Oh, yes. I get that. I just don’t test much at night so I focus on daytime. Thank you! :)
