9/10 Trixie PMBG 119 - Vetty update

Ugh, Trix....what is Ms P up to???? These numbers are decent, but also a bit baffling since she didn't drop at +3 again. Argh....gotta keep me guessing, dontcha, Trix?? Despite confusing the you-know-what outta the bean, Trix is feeling gluttonous, snuggly, rubby lovey dove and just plain good.

She's not going to be thrilled that we are going for a little car ride this evening, though. We need to recheck her BP to see how she's doing on the reduced dose of amplodipine. It IS interesting that her appy picked up tremendously after we reduced the dose...it wasn't bad before the reduction, but now it is notably better. And, she hasn't had any of those huge BG spikes since we reduced the dose, either...ant-jinx, knock on wood and all that jazz. At least she doesn't need to get stuck with a needle for BW and urinalysis.

All seemed to go smoothly with my Dad's second chemo infusion yesterday, although he is still hooked up to his "chemo on the road" pump until tomorrow afternoon. Last time, he crashed the day after being disconnected from the pump, so we are pretty much expecting that again this time...but we'll see. He did bounce back after a couple days, and was feeling VERY feisty (in a wise-cracking sort of way) at the infusion yesterday.

Today is DH and I's 20th anniversary. Man, how time flies. We're both off today and are going to do something nice for lunch. There is a fabulous vegetarian restaurant that we don't have a chance to get to very often, so that will probably be what we do. Since we have Trix's BP check tonight (the only evening our vetty is in the office), lunch it is.

Well, 20 years!!!! (Gosh, I have jeans older than that; I can't wear them anymore, but I hang on to them 'cuz maybe someday...I'll learn to quilt and can do a denim patchwork.)

Trixie. You just keep 'em guessing, huh? (Thata girl!!!!!) Good for the appy. Good for the lovey. And great for the "just plain good."

Hope the bp comes in at a great level. Does Miss Trix get the white coat syndrome? (My onco made me see my pcp 'cuz my bp was always through the roof over at infusions...duh! At pcp, low normal. Dr. G would scold me for high bp. I just told her it was her fault and she should stop bugging me about it.)

I'm betting your DF gets steroids infused during his biweekly treatments. They hang in the system for 48 hours; pump comes off at 46 hours. Hence, the big crash after the pump comes off. Thursday afternoons after pump removal were always dedicated to nap time for me. And I'd pre-empt the stomach turning with meds and lots of hydration before the pump came off...to keep ahead of it. But that stretch during the cycle is traditionally the "down time." Once expected, that day and a half were manageable.

Trix doesn't seem to get significant white coat syndrome, but our vetty does take it into account anyway. Her last check was 110 a week and a half ago, and if you factor in possible white coat, it was considered too low, hence the reduction in her meds. My vet starts treatment at 170, also accounting for white coat. Hopefully we'll be in a better range today, so we don't have to drag her back yet again.

My Dad is SO determined, so his BP has actually been very normal for his infusions so far! He likes to defy the odds and prove to the docs that even though his chronological age is almost 82, his body's age isn't, which works in his favor. He barely needs BP meds as it is.

He does get dexamethasone as a pre-med before the infusion, plus he takes it in pill form for two days after the infusion. Last time, the crash started 24 hours after his last dex (which was a little more than 24 hours after turning the pump in). My business partner's husband is also on dex (for multiple myeloma), so I was familiar with the dex highs and crashes through her stories...of course, though, it's a little different when you see it happening in your own family. SHaring your experiences has been a big comfort to me, Marilyn!

You know, the name Trixie implies that the kitty is mischievous, and I think your little girl is living up to her name! She doesn't want you to get complacent about her, and she doesn't want to quit eating well, now that she's remembered how much she likes food, so she has to do something to keep you guessing! Fun's over, Trixie. You win. Let's see some better numbers tonight, okay? ;-) :-D

Just got back...it was a madhouse in there tonight and we didn't even get to actually speak with the vet like we usually do. Her BP was good at 120, although - taking white coat into account - it MAY still be a bit low. But we're holding her dose at 1/4 tablet amlodipine SID for now, and rechecking yet again in a month. The tech went on about how sweet Trix is...apparently Trix was being all rubby-lovey-dovey while they were trying to take her BP. The tech said Trix was "oddly relaxed" during the test :lol: !

And, her weight is up a bit, just in the last week and a half. I knew she was being a piggy! I only did a few syringe feedings for extra calories the first couple days after her last appointment, but after I saw how much her appy increased after reducing her BP meds, I stopped with the syringes. So the weight gain is really all Trix's doing.

Now it's time to have our amazing anniversary lunch leftovers for dinner, along with some adult beverages....

Now Trixie, we all really love that you're eating so good for your mama, but don't forget you want to keep your girlish figure too!

Hope your dad does as well as he did last time with this treatment, Amy. Chemo isn't ever easy, but I think having a good attitude about it helps in a lot of ways

Happy Anniversary to you and DH!! 20 years is a great accomplishment, especially these days with so many people thinking if it isn't great all the time, there's something wrong with it.

Marriage is a lot of work, and you must be doing something right!

All in all, it's been a great day for you, DH and Trixie! :-D
