Hi Everyone,
The 90 Miler is over and our paddler did great: a personal best and he won his division. And today we actually had sunshine. Yesterday it rained, but not as hard as on Friday, and there wasn't much wind.

Rusty was holding the fort until +7, but then Edward stayed with him while I went back to the race to be there for the awards ceremony. Some of the paddlers got 30-year pins (that's 2,700 miles doing this race every year for 30 years!!). Inspiring.

Rusty's numbers are a bit off because I just can't measure his tiny dose well, and because insulin gets left in the syringe. But he is eating pretty well, so that's a plus.

I'm glad Rusty is eating pretty well. I hope his breathing is better. I'm glad you had good weather and your paddler did so well.

I'm so glad the weekend went well, despite the blustery start. You all have my admiration. My arms are weaker than Rhiannon's!

Ella, I know you're an old hand at this, but I am just curious - are you holding the plunger in as you withdraw the syringe? I've seen some people say it helps to get every last drop out.

Yes, I always do this. In our case it is fractions of a drop! I may have to start experimenting with the other brands of syringe again. But none of them have markings as good as the Monojects, and they all get many more bubbles than the Monojects (which hardly ever get bubbles). But the fatal flaw of the Monojects is the "cone", where the insulin hides.

Rusty! DUDE! You are looking great! It is so nice to see that green. Keep them coming, the lagoon needs its meister.

How wonderful for your friend and that 90-miler. Congrats to him. Nice that your weather is somewhat better. We continue in the sunshine mode, though we had some very minor sprinkles the other day. We need so much more... such an unusual summer for us, so many rainless days.... We are now cooling as fall approaches, yes the sunny days continue, temps in the 65 range. Our wildfire season this summer has been horrific. so much of the states of the PNW are burning. Things have finally started to improve. First day in sometime where the smoky haze has lifted, and we have clear skies.

On the homefront, Nicholas and William are now back in school. Nicholas loves his teacher and his class, and already has homework. My how things have changed in first grade from when my kids were in school! He is excited about it all. William starts his pre-K class today, and he too is excited. He went to meet some of his class last week, and his teacher. So back to school and fall mode we are. Nicholas's soccer lessons resume this Saturday, and fall swimming starts today. I shall miss all our summer adventures, but am also excited about what fall holds in store for us. So far it is shaping up to be an excellent year.

Yes, the summer has really flown by. I think that fall will, too! I sure hope your forest fires will be over soon. Are there any trees left? Will you be able to hike your favorite trails?
So neat that Nicholas has a really good teacher. Wow on the homework! I remember reading "Dick and Jane" in the first grade. I guess that is now passé. "see, see, see. run, run, run"
William will love school, too, I'm sure.
Glad the swim classses are starting up again and that both boys will continue to become good swimmers. I can imagine how good they are. After all, they've been swimming since they were practically babies.
