Yesterday, lots of pink and yellow. :YMSIGH:

9/9 Recap:
AMPS 208 +4.5 324 +10.5 312
PMPS 301 +5 286

Neko's old Lantus cartridge was definitely toast. In order to see if I could level Neko out at all, and get rid of or flatten those daytime bounces, I decided to see what Levemir could do for Neko. Today is day one. A new insulin, a new dose. I started at 1.0s (or 1.5mm on the calipers) as that is 70% of her dose on Lantus. I'll give it a couple days before going up if I don't see action quickly.

As usual, Neko was impatient for her breakfast, and told me in no uncertain way that I should be up. She's taken to using the carpet on the top step of our stairs as her scratching post when she wants me to do something. There are two scratching posts within 5 feet of that. I've tried to find the Nature's Miracle product that Sienne is using, but no luck so far. I hope it isn't one of those "not available in Canada" things. I've also got a Feliway plug-in about 6 feet away from the stairs. Anyone have any other ideas here? I've previously put a towel on the top step, then she moves to step two.

Other than the bean being slow to get up (I wasn't, I got up 15 minutes early as I have to reset shot times for a meeting tomorrow), Neko is doing well so far today. She didn't react any differently at shot time. One of the reasons some high dose cats use Levemir is because Lantus can sting at high doses. Neko never seemed bothered by it at 8.75 units, and definitely not at her current dose. She's done a quick yard tour (out the front door, in the back) and is currently parked by her BFF Otto (feeder).

Re: 9/10 Neko AMPS 248 - Lev day 1

Good luck with the Lev! I hope you like it. No ideas on the scratching. Silly kitter. She knows what gets you out of bed. Have a great day Wendy!

Re: 9/10 Neko AMPS 248 +4 326 - Lev day 1

+4 326
OK Lev, time to get to work now!

@Amy - Not sure if I should have used the phrase flatten the bounces. I've heard it can slow down the drops which could mean reducing those types of bounces. We'll see. Neko doesn't do the wicked type of drops as often as she used to.

@Melissa - At this point, almost 5 months, I'm getting pretty tired of Neko's routine of daytime bounces and going low late at night so ready for the experiment. Neko definitely knows how to get me up! Nothing subtle about her.

Neko's a clever girl! Using the scratching posts isn't going to get her any breakfast!

Good luck with the Lev!

Re: 9/10 Neko AMPS 248 +4 326 +6 298 - Lev day 1

Good luck with the Lev. I hope it helps with those crazy bounces.

Re: 9/10 Neko PMPS 113 - Lev day 1

+9 189 +11 150 PMPS 113    Think I'll stick with this dose a while yet. ;-)

Quite the drop at the end of the cycle. I felt a bit nervous shooting such a dropping number but with Lev I'm going to have to get used to shooting low. Still no idea where Neko's Levemir nadir is. That bounce at the beginning before Lev took over would have confused the data. The kitties hated the +11 test. At the end of the day, any pokie is supposed to be followed by fuds. I quickly rushed outside afterwards to hide from them.

@Nancy - Using scratching posts is still loud enough to wake me. So far so good with Lev.

@Carla - Paws crossed - looking good so far. Still have to see how it helps bounces.

dancing_cat Doing a little happy dance for the new insulin!!!! Come on, Levemir!!! Do your job!!!

Re: 9/10 Neko PMPS 113 - Lev day 1

Maybe a plastic runner on the stairs? Paws crossed for the Lev. You can do it, Neko! Our weather is like Vancouver's, feels like a rain forest here.

Re: 9/10 Neko PMPS 113 - Lev day 1

Hope the Levemir is going to change up those cycles....

I've always had to buy the skinny scratching pads and put them in any area I don't want scratched.....but you'd have to buy one for every step, probably.... she'd just move down
to the next one

but....
you could try some double sided sticky tape.... that's what you use on furniture.... cats hate the way it feels...... just don't try to go too sticky (like ductape) .... because she could wind up wearing it and really be unhappy.
Shadow recently "found" one of the sticky papers from a moth trap and it was completely stuck on her entire leg.

Re: 9/10 Neko PMPS 113 - Lev day 1

groan.....oh...I feel for you having to start a new insulin.....not knowing what to expect and when to expect it.....all over again....

but then again...with Neko.....it isn't like you had much of a clear road-map anyway!!

Good luck and fingers crossed this is the insulin for YOU 2!!

as always...thanks for the visits....means so much!!

Re: 9/10 Neko PMPS 113 +2 194

+2 194
Well, she's not zooming up by Neko standards. Lev onset is later though. Looks like I'll be doing a little sleep testing tonight unless she really zooms up before bed. Neko is feeling good - she's done a little moth hunting after dinner.

@Deborah - First impressions are pretty good! But she's in a transition stage, still some Lantus shed, still building the Lev shed.

@Liz - We are sunny here, expected to get into the 80's tomorrow. Time to put the sprinkler on the veggie garden again. Today's tomato harvest was 2.5 lbs. We put carpet runner on the stairs because the wood underneath is worn and we wanted something not so slippery. Probably time to think about a different kind of runner. Carpet's looking pretty hairy now.

@Rhiannon - I too sure hope to change things up a bit. Early days yet. I'll check out the sticky tape, just don't want to do all the stairs.

@Kelly - One of the main reasons I've been slow to consider Lev is the learning curve. Better the devil you know and all that. She does like to keep me guessing.

Re: 9/10 Neko PMPS 113 +2 194

OOOohhhhhh new insulin.
This is exciting!!!
I'm still working :-x , but Neko's nice PMPS AND +2 numbers caught my eyes.
Good luck with Lev!!
I'm very curious to see how she'll do!
