Hello LL,

Guess everyone was feeling extra-snoozy this morning I-) no wake-up calls!
Jetson is lovey-dovey and actually LET me poke his ear without flinching or crying for the first time ever! Maybe it'll be ok after all

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Saturday!

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120

You had mentioned getting FortiFlora. I've never seen it anywhere but on-line (or the vet's office where you'll pay a lot more). I've purchased it from Amazon or PetFood Direct. Just make sure you get the feline product (white box). However, any probiotic will work. The only advantage with FortiFlora is that cats seem to love the stuff. My vet refers to it as "kitty crack." If I give Gabby some, I have to lace Gizmo's food, as well, or he tries to muscle in to Gabby's food.

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120

Jetson,
KT said he's so envious of your 120 AMPS....WONDERFUL! See MamaBean, we TOLD you it would get better. Doin' a silly dance with you!

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120

What a wonderful start for Jetson!! Fortiflora is indeed kitty crack! I don't use it for Willie anymore, much to his chagrin. This is the one you want.

Have a great weekend!

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! What now?

Thanks for the advice on FortiFlora. Checked it out on amazon and seems reasonable. Gotta wait for payday to order, tho

So, it's lunchtime and I got a test in b4 fud, and it's 54.
He polished off his plate (one 5.5oz can split 3 ways of BFF tuna/bonito)
And is now watching DH get ready for work - in other words, acting his normal self.

What is best for retesting? 30 mins? Less? More?

He had a 63 on one test on 9/7, but in the 100s for the others.
Appreciate advice  confused_cat  confused_cat

Wow, that is a big drop! Hope Jetson is doing OK.

Fortiflora works well for Zener too. We are using a bit less than previously. He will actually eat some canned food without it now.

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! +4 62 ?

Hi!

+4 is 62, so going back up. That's good, right?
He's currently having himself a bath while pretending to ignore me from 1' away.

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! +4 62 ?

Hi Sandy,

He ate 1/3 of the 5.5oz can (three cats split 1 can for lunch usually).
Yes, right after the 54 test.

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! +4 62 ?

These numbers are fairly close so I'd keep an eye on them. If you consider 20% variance for meter.....it looks like he's surfing a bit. But please keep checking him (at least by +5) to see if he is staying here, going up, or headed back down.

Nice day and great shooting!

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! +4 62 ?

This is a lovely, safe range to surf in. Since it's still relatively early in the cycle and since this is new territory for you, testing every 30 min. will help you get a feel for how Jetson responds to food and lower numbers. What's key to remember when managing the cycle with food is to not over feed.

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! +4 62, +5 56

OK. +5 went down, but only a little to 56.
Should I feed him again? Lunch was LC fud. There's maybe 1.5 TBSP left in the fridge.

Re: 9/10 Jetson. +11 136, AMPS 120, +3 is 54! +4 62, +5 56

Hi.

Of course my computer froze and had to reboot - but that's another story...

+5.5 is 64, and he only had a couple pieces of freeze-dry chicken as a reward for the poky.

Re: 9/10 Jetson AMPS 120, +3 54! +4 62, +5 56, +5.5 64, +6 7

Hi Sandy,

Just did a +6 and he's up to 75.

Dinner is usually at 8p. But due to no eating after vet visit a few days ago, and resulting 2hr delay in shot, we're a little off schedule.
So, Jetson get's 1/2 his dinner at 8 with the girls, and the rest at shot time. Should I do that differently?

Should I let him have a snack? Usually DH and I are both at work at this time, so normally no food between 12n and 8p.

Re: 9/10 Jetson AMPS 120, +3 54! +4 62, +5 56, +5.5 64, +6 7

As a general rule, you don't want to feed 2 hours prior to shot time. It can inflate your pre-shot numbers. And, it's best to not feed after nadir. There's less insulin available to offset the effect of food. Is that feasible given that you're off schedule?

One thought. Can you get a +10.5? If Jetson bounces, it may be possible to move your PM shot an hour early. Otherwise, you can shoot 30 min. early to start to make up the time if you've not already moved your shot time earlier today.

Re: 9/10 Jetson AMPS 120, +3 54! +4 62, +5 56, +5.5 64, +6 7

Hi Sienne,

I can definitely try for a +10.5. So, since he's gone up the last 2 tests, do you think if he's following the upward trend at +4 we can safely wait until dinnertime?

We've been moving the shots up by 15mins each time since we shot late after the vets. Am shot was at 9:05am, so I'm looking to do the PM shot at about 8:45 tonight. That would only be 45mins at most after everyone's dinnertime - and I can try to stall a bit, although they're a rather insistent gang!

Re: 9/10 Jetson AM 120,+3 54,+4 62,+5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99

Did +7 and got 99. Think it's safe to go run some quick errands.

No "real" food, just a couple of chicken chunks. And he's being very cooperative with pokes today.

Thanks for talking me through his first round of lower #s :-D :-D

Re: 9/10 Jetson +5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99,+10.5 183

Unless Jetson zooms, I don't think he'll be in the pinks by shot time. You can move shot time by 15 min. only. That he's not zooming is a good thing (except for your schedule)!

Re: 9/10 Jetson +5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99,+10.5 183

Hi Sherry, thanks for the link and the tip for the coupon! :-D
Hi Melissa, thanks for the good thoughts! :-D
Sorry I haven't had time to visit everyone's condos today. Hope Zoe and Tarragon are having a good Caturday!

+10.5 was 183. We'll see what PMPS result is in a little bit. I wonder if I missed a low early in the cycle? Hopefully he won't go much higher :-|

Thanks to everyone who visited today! You make me feel so welcome and not alone in this

Re: 9/10 Jetson +5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99,+10.5 183

Wow!!! What a beautiful cycle for Jetson today! You handled it like a pro! Don't worry, it gets less stressful eventually!!

Re: 9/10 Jetson +5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99,+10.5 183

Thanks Christie! I look forward to the day this is just "normal" and of course the day he can really go back to normal and OTJ :-D

Re: 9/10 Jetson +5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99,+10.5 183

I'm getting "feed me" eyes and am wondering if 45 minutes is too early to test/feed/shoot?
Meaning am shot was at 9a and it's only 8:15 now.

Thoughts?

Re: 9/10 Jetson shoot early? +5 56,+5.5 64,+6 75,+7 99,+10.5

I think you missed my post. I generally don't recommend shooting that early unless numbers are in the pinks. You've already shot 15 min. early today. I'd stick with another 15 min. early shot. If you grab a test at +11.5 and numbers are zooming, you could shoot then but you will have to monitor this evening.

Re: 9/10 Jetson +10.5 183, PMPS 196, +1 170

Hi Sienne,

I did miss your earlier post. I stalled a bit and ended up shooting 20 minutes early.

I hope that wasn't too early, but I'll keep an eye on him.
His number is down at +1, so does that mean it's starting to work the first hour? Or is it more from the early shot?

I definitely don't want to make him worse! :?

Thanks  for sharing your wisdom.

Re: 9/10 Jetson +10.5 183, PMPS 196, +1 170

I doubt that 20 min. would have made that big of a difference. I'm glad you shot when you did. How about getting a +2 to see what Jetson has in mind for the evening?

Re: 9/10 Jetson +10.5 183, PMPS 196, +1 170

Approx. +2.5, sorry - my brain can't figure out 840p to 1105p @-)

Test result 165. Coming down, but not too fast - right?

That's more of a surf than a drop. It's a good range for the +2. If you look at the sample curve in the New to the Group sticky, generally, your +1 should be higher than your pre-shot due to a bit of a food spike. The +2 should be about the same as your pre-shot and this is typically where Lantus onset begins. It's hard to know if this means it's going to be an active cycle. I'd get another test in an hour so you know where the cycle is heading.
