Good morning! I am in a bit of a pickle. I posted a fresh topic on it, but I don't think it got much visibility. Meter Comparison Condo

I am running out of test strips so I switched to the Relion Prime to save some money. Unfortunately, there is a huge difference in the numbers between the meters. So, I'm either happily shooting a 239 or timidly shooting a 163 and I have to go to work. I should be home by +4 to check on him - no, let's make that I WILL be home by +4 to check on him. nailbite_smile

I am going to switch to the Relion which is showing numbers 75-110 LOWER than the meter I had been using. I figure it's safer for me to think he's low, but then be higher rather than the other way around. I don't really get it, but I'm going with it.

Re: 9/10 Buster AMPS 239 or 163

I guess if I'm going to make the switch to the Relion, I should post those numbers in the SS. Updating now...also, I just remembered about the nadir number being more important. Monday mornings are for the birds ~O)

I don't know about your meter. I have an Accu-chek and I haven't noticed any big variances when I repeat a test.
That would be frustrating but to be safe I would take the lower number too.
The next time you go to the vet you should do a comparison with their meter. I did one on myself with my vet without my cat.
We were only 30 apart.

I'm very glad to hear you "will" check on him in a few hours.

I am not shooting at 6 am so IF I have to go anywhere, I can at least get a +2 before walking out.
Deborah and Shasta does that too as she goes to work early but she wants to know how it looks for the day.
Of course, it has to work for the pm shot too.
It took me a while to wrap my head around changing my time because I was at 8am8pm. I thought it was the best time.
My only drawback on the 6pm is sometimes I'm cooking dinner and my husband get annoyed that I drop everything to go do shots.
He understands but he also wants dinner to hurry. Now that I've switched times, I do like the 6 time better because I am around
for more tests on the days where I do work and I get several more opportunities at night as well.

Re: 9/10 Buster AMPS 239 or 163

I switched from a One Touch Ultra to a Relion Prime and the numbers I got when comparing were very close, less than 10 points different.

Re: 9/10 Buster AMPS 239 or 163

When I tested the 2 meters on myself they only differed by 12. I have done 3 tests on Buster now. Each one was off by 75-100. Very frustrating! I know we need consistency in LL, and I will not make any more changes to syringes or meters.

Re: 9/10 Buster AMPS 163, +4.5 188, +5.5 216

I would go with the lower number as well. About a year ago we switched from the Contour to Arkray (Relion like from ADW) and we had a variance as well. However, I just went with the Arkray and started using those numbers. Did you calibrate it? Sometimes that makes a difference. Have a great day!

Re: 9/10 Buster AMPS 163, +4.5 188, +5.5 216

I read the instructions but I will check it again. Makes no sense that it's pretty close with me, but all wonky with kitty. Technology - a love/hate relationship...

Read the instructions - the only thing I can think to do is order up some control solution to test the meter. I tested both meters on myself again tonight - they differed by 6. Tested Buster with both for PMPS and it was off by only 55 this time. *shrug*
