9/10 Annie: Neuropathy symptom or mini-seizure?

Good Day Everyone,

Annie rewarded me with a blue number this morning, so I was actually able to focus in my classes today (unlike yesterday which was a total write-off :? ). Fortunately, the boyfriend was still around to get a +2 in for me! Annie's got herself a good team of helpers around this place. She's being quite active & friendly today, I don't know if it's because she's feeling better orrrr... because her life is officially complete now that she can eat Fancy Feast, she's just been annihilating her food bowl.

One thing on my mind, is it ok for her to eat grass? She just loves to go outside and mow down on a few big strands. I don't know how much sugar is in grass, I hope it does not affect her BG to a considerable degree.

These are good numbers that we're seeing today, right? This is ideally where we'd like to keep her at? When kitty adjusts to the Lantus dose, do we begin to see similar AM & PM cycles?

Hi Julia,

Glad to see you! What beautiful numbers today for Annie. Those are definitely the types of numbers you want to see. Anything between 50 and 120 is where we want them to be. As they get used to being in those normal numbers again, they will stop bouncing less from them....so you won't see the big spikes up into the yellows, pinks, and reds that you're seeing right now. You'll soon find that colors on your spreadsheet turn to more blues and greens.

Isn't it great when our kitties feel great? :-D And so nice that your boyfriend was able to snag a +2 this morning.

Who knew our kitties would go so crazy over FF? I wonder what they lace it with? Probably the same thing they lace powdered donuts with for me. :lol:

My cats eat grass quite often. Sometimes they do it intentionally. Other times, they're just playing with the tall strands (a sign that we need to mow our yard) and end up eating it. I haven't found it to affect bg numbers.

great Annie report today! what a purrrfect cycle! :-D

i don't know about the grass, although i gave punkin catnip and it didn't seem to influence his blood sugar at all.

great to hear you've got a team in place - that makes it much easier to handle this!

Two more values for today. I was concerned before her +8 because she was doing a stiff-legged, drunken walk. I've seen her do this before, where she loses her footing and slants over, unable to stand back up straight and her legs become really stiff. I don't know if this is a symptom of her neuropathy or if it was a mini-seizure? I've seen her have seizures before from her brain damage but they are usually more violent than this. It only lasted for about 30 seconds before I scooped her up and put her on her bed.

Anyone have experience with this? Or a possible explanation for this?

Poor Annie. She's been through so much and is such a trooper. Sorry I can't answer your question about the neuropathy/seizure issue.

If you have a camera phone and can take a video of the behavior, do so and then the vet can review it.

Sorry I can't be of help with the seizure issue. But I can say that grass probably won't raise Annie's bgs. Lots of cats eat grass to help them cough up hairballs.

I don't know about the seizure/neuropathy issue, either, but the camera phone idea is a good way to show the vetty. Gorgeous numbers for sweet Annie today!!
 
Thanks Amy & TrixieCat! I am very pleased as well with Annie's numbers as of lately! Such an improvement from what I was getting before under waaayy different instruction. So happy that I've found this forum :-D

Will try and capture a video one of these days. Have already spoken to the vet about it and she figures they are mini-seizures, she's been on phenobarbital since then and it's been months since I've seen a full seizure. Just those strange little stiff-legged episodes from time to time...
