Blues are always nice to see! Did you happen to get any readings from last night? I had hoped you might have seen some activity, maybe down to greens, which may have accounted for the yellow bounces this morning?

My Maverick has had some of his best numbers in the pm cycle. More data there for Govie could help guide people (who understand more than I do) where to go next! Govie's spreadsheet is interesting, he's been at 1.25u for a while now? Very similar day to day, and that pm data and where he hits nadir in the pm cycles might fill in some missing pieces to possibly get you to a better dose.

I'm gonna do a few things first. As I mentioned I had dropped my meter this morning but getting the 181 reading seems to show that the meter is okay because it is running closely to my alphatrak. So first thing I'd like to do is at least get control solution because they say to use that if you drop your meter to make sure I'm getting the right reading in the right range. Secondly, I am going to get a new vial of insulin tomorrow. This happened the last time.. my vial lasts usually 6 months, and her numbers start going up. Also the first high reading I got, very well could have been due to her being a little upset because I was having trouble getting blood and she was getting impatient. But sometimes we never really do know..

Sounds good, glad you have a back up meter!;)

ETA: Sorry, I'm so used to having male kitties, I just assumed, but see that Govie is a girl

Nice to see that blue. I had a second meter of the same kind as my backup, so I could also use the same strips.

If you get new insulin, you might want to think about getting pens. You can usually use them to the last drop as there is less insulin in each one.

It took a long time before people stopped calling my girl kitty a he too.

Lol! You're right about the pens. Last year, my friend who is an EMT, gave me a box of them. They get donations if someone passes away and still has usable medicine. What a blessing that was considering the cost of Lantus. I just found Rite Aid up the street from me will sell me a single pen for 115 bucks, plus I have a 30% off pet coupon for prescriptions

You can buy a box of 5 pens for not much more than that at Marks Marine pharmacy online. And someone here found a Lantus coupon for much cheaper. Maybe try searching for is somewhere on this forum.

Yeah I checked that out I just don't feel confident or comfortable buying from Canada I just don't I'd rather get it up the street Plus I don't want five Penn's I just want to get one at a time. And the Lantus card.. if you go on Sanofi's website, the makers of Lantus, you can fill out an application for free Lantus for a year which is incredible only problem is they will not honor the prescription from a vet it has to be for a human. So I did get my card but that went out the window when I found out that they want an NPI number which they do not give to vets because they're not considered a healthcare provider go figure

Many people here buy from Marks. They are a real pharmacy, about 25 minutes drive from me. A.t least you found a place that will sell just one pen.

. I had the same problem with the lantus card. However after some online searching, my husband did find that vets are now able to get the NPI number (not sure how true that is). So I plan on asking if my vet is able and willing to do that. I guess they just have to sign up online. But I'm also guessing that they would be registered as a vet and that it still wouldn't work for us.

Amazing isn't it? Anyhow I just tried to use the pet discount card that I signed up for online also called the company and they told me I was to get roughly a 30% discount using this card.. and found that wasn't the case either. So I will end up paying 268 for a vial of Lantus at Rite Aid

I found that with the pet discount card, my local pharmacy wouldn't accept it but they were already giving me a discount that was $10 cheaper than a chain pharmacy 30 minutes away that accepted the card. I think we ended up paying $275 and it only lasts about 2 months.:arghh:

Each vial I've gotten so far has lasted me six months. By 7 months, the numbers start increasing a little bit just as they are for me right now as of this week or at least last couple days. So, that's how I know when to start the new vial. But it definitely refrigerated last me six months

I'm hoping Gizmo's dose will eventually get low enough for the vial to last longer. But hey at least I get to use every last drop. ;):joyful:

Oh absolutely. Ya see, my stepdad is a doctor. Now retired, but I grew up in a medical family. Most expiration dates are a guide to let you know that past that date the potency may decrease. The beauty of Home testing for us is that we get to see for sure if that is the case. But Lantus is a pretty Hardy insulin. And as I said, the proof for me yesterday and 2day, is that my current bottle of insulin..judging from the bg's..has lost its potency. That's why I got a new vial 2day
