TGIF!!!!!

Liking the blues today I can't monitor DD in law will come and feed Fritz.

On Tuesday Fritz has a vetty apt. for Senior BW and urinalysis. My question is is there any other BW test not included in the senior panel? Is it safe to let them get urine by going into bladder or should I capture the sample? I am also discussing having X-rays for his ears, throat and sinuses and chest to rule out any polyps or anything else.

Have a great day!

It's safe and sterile by going into the bladder. Have them do an USG, too.

Check to see if thyroid tests are included, but I think you recently had that done so if it has been less than 6-12 months, then it's not necessary.

Good luck! Fritz is looking good today.

I would suggest having the T4 thyroid test done as well as the fPL snap test for pancreas function. I like to get as full a testing as possible when a blood draw is done. Are all the tests being done at your vet's office or are they sending it to an outside lab? If it is going to an outside lab then rather than the snap fPL you would want the specific fPLI test since it will give an actual number rather than yes or no.

When I had Shoes' Super Chemo Panel done (he is a senior too) and the urinalysis, I was told to put the urine sample in the fridge immediately and take it out when ready to go to vet's office and give it to the front desk as soon as I got there so they could do their thing. I caught the first urination when we got up in one of those 2 oz. clear disposable cups that have lids too and used that.

The only issue with a free-catch as opposed to going through the bladder is if, for any reason, you have to run a culture. For a culture, the sample needs to be sterile and that can only be obtained by a needle through the bladder.

Nice start for Fritz!

Like Amy says, there is a down side to the free catch. It just depends on what you want to do with the urine. A regular urinalysis is fine free catch. But if you want a culture or some other tests like urine protein/creatinine ratio, they require the cystostentesis, which Neko had safely many times.

Don't forget the IGF-1 add in. Sending vetty vines in advance. :bighug:

What is this?

@DebG sending vetty vines. :bighug: Is this just routine BW?
I'm curious too!
I'm writing down all of these test names for when Girlie gets her next blood test. Is there a list somewhere on FDMB for screens that should be requested when blood is drawn on a senior diabetic kitty that might have all of the issues (CKD, etc.) that pop up with them?

The senior panel was what Gizmo had last time. He has to have a follow up in the next month. He has CKD and pancreatitis. If you want to see what the test for it is on my "labs" tab on the SS (07/05).

The IGF-1 test is a screen for a high dose condition. Fritz had the test when he was newly diagnosed with FD and it came back negative then. There can be false negatives in newly diagnosed cats so I am suggesting a retest as he is also in a much higher dose now.

I'm not sure if it is in house lab my guess is outside lab I'm going to call and ask.

I don't know if it has to be the first one but our appointment was early in the am and I thought that I had read on here at one time that the first one was the best one to use, so that's what I did.
