Thank you Julie, Marje, Elise and Amy for your visits and suggestions last night!!

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=124510

I am running with the dust/dust mite theory. Food theory is next if this doesn't help. I got a true HEPA air purifier last night, and I actually do feel like the air is fresher in here this morning. I have it in the living room but may get one for the bedroom too if it seems to be helping.

I had success giving Billie 5 mg of Zyrtec crushed up in cottage cheese late last night, and I didn't hear any coughing or itching before I went to bed. Zyrtec must not taste as bad as Benadryl. So far, no itching this morning, just a bit of coughing that started after Brooklyn did something Billie didn't approve of, and Billie hissed at her.

The only carpeting I have is a small area rug so I will either try the diatomaceous earth or maybe even replace the rug. It's a cheapo from Walmart, so definitely nothing hard to replace. Billie does love to sprawl out on it.

And I will pick up some Allerplex. I know my local chiropractor sells it. I was actually going to ask about supplements to help with allergies, so thank you!

Today is going to be a major laundry day for all bedding and blankets...after some btb nap time with the cats. I-) It's rainy here, so it's a perfect day for laundry and napping with cats.

The plus side of all this is that I'm doing some major end of summer cleaning! I hope I figure it out soon. I still haven't seen much improvement from the dose increase, but I'll give it a couple more cycles.

I hope everyone has a happy Labor Day!! Many vines to the cats and beans who aren't feeling well.

Sending safe blue surfing vines to Billie

I will be doing TONS of cleaning myself....I have not gotten even a third of what I wanted to get done this weekend....my problem is I like to reorganize when I clean, which usually causes more of a mess than anything...let's see how far I can get today

Re: 9/1 Billie AMPS 238 +4 177 +7 188 dosecrease?

Thanks Angela and Molly!! Phase 1 of cleaning is done...all bedding is washed. I found a non-toxic peppermint oil spray that smells lovely and is supposed to kill dust mites, so I sprayed that all over the couch, then put a new sofa cover on top. I'm going to spray the mattress and pillows later before I make the bed, but the sun came out, so I'm taking a break and going swimming!! Molly, I hope your cleaning isn't too treacherous. It is one of my least favorite activities.

So, this is the 6th cycle since the dosecrease to 1.5, and we haven't seen any green or much improvement in general. Should I increase? I know her numbers could be running high from her not feeling well, but I don't want her to get used to this lack of green. Thank you for any advice!! I hope everyone is having a nice day.

Re: 9/1 Billie AMPS 238 +4 177 +7 188

Hey Deanna,

Somehow, I ended up looking at a flea trap on Amazon last night. (I don't even know how I ended up on that page! :?) In the reviewer comments was a discussion about diatomaceous earth. They were mentioning that it's important to get food-grade d.e. for use in the house. I don't know anything about all of that but wanted to mention it for what it's worth.

Another thought - have you changed any detergents - like laundry detergent - lately? Perhaps something like that might be a culprit. (I may have missed a discussion of all of this; my apologies if I have.)

Regardless....I'm sending out tons of vines for Billie.

Poor Billie girl! More feel better vines headed your way!

Ugh on trying to figure out the culprit for her allergies. I think you're right on trying to eliminate one possibility at a time so you can try to nail it down. Can they do an allergy test on cats like they do on people?

No advice from me on whether to dosecrease, but hopefully, her numbers will start to come back down when she starts feeling better.

Re: 9/1 Billie AMPS 238 +4 177 +7 188 dose increase?

Allergies are such a challenge. My former dog developed skin-ripping allergies at age 7: poultry, dairy, rice, dust, mold, desert weeds, and so much more. oh, and cats. He was allergic to cats. He lived with 8 of them! We did the serum test. Expensive. And not really helpful 'cuz he was allergic to so many things. We tried the desensitizing shots; not helpful. We resorted to steroid shots for relief. And then. As sudden as they came on, those allergies disappeared. Poof. I never understood.

I send vines for Billie's relief and your peace of mind. It's a tough puzzle to solve but you're going about piecing it together in the best way.

Absolutely no dose advice from me. But, I, too, hope Billie's numbers come down for you; could easily be the inflammation that has them higher than you like.

Re: 9/1 Billie AMPS 238 +4 177 +7 188 dose increase?

i think your instinct is right on, deanna. i'd increase to 1.75 also, just watching in case the ABs suddenly decrease her BGs.

I'm not sure what food grade diatomaceous earth is, although i saw it in the petstore with the suggestion to add it to food. all i know is i used the garden/nursery product outside for carpenter ants and fleas and it worked great. perhaps your peppermint spray will do the trick, though. i think peppermint is a relative of the mint family, came as catnip.

Re: 9/1 Billie AMPS 238 +4 177 +7 188 dose increase?

Thanks so much for the visits, vines and advice Shelly, Jen, Marilyn and Julie!!

Julie, thanks for the dosing help. I just gave her PM shot and increased to 1.75. I sprayed the mattress and pillows and am letting that stuff dry. Next up, I'm going to spray the carpet. If the peppermint spray doesn't make a difference, I'll try diatomaceous earth. I am hoping the peppermint works, because it smells so very nice. I know that Billie approves of our new sofa cover, because when I got home, I found one of her toys on the couch  She likes plastic toys that Brooklyn has no interest in, so I know it was her.

Marilyn, thanks for sharing your experience with your dog's allergies - ouch! It sounds like he had a rough time, and sounds like you did everything you could possibly do to help him. That's interesting/cool that the allergies disappeared all of a sudden. I'd love to see that happen!

Jen, Billie hasn't had any allergy tests yet - her vet didn't think we were at that point, but I think we will be at that point if my experiments don't work. Paws crossed they work!

Shelly, I haven't changed detergents or anything, but that's a good question. I went through the apartment trying to find "suspects" and dust mites or food are all that I have come up with. I'm on the dust mite hunch right now because I read that dust mite allergies can often show up on the skin first, then show up as a cough as things progress, and that is what happened. Food allergy is my next suspect if the things I'm doing now don't help.

On the bright side, my apartment smells like peppermint, Billie's appy is good, and she will take Zyrtec in cottage cheese which I think does help the itching at least. I could only find the 24 hour kind, so I'm giving 5 mg once a day.

I hope everyone is having a nice night!! Vines to all the kitties and beans who aren't feeling well.
