After a PFS and some crazy storms last night, where Mav spent a good deal of time hiding under the bed, it is no real surprise that Mav is having a blah day. I had to bring him down to 1.25u since he gave me a 61 a few days ago, and he still likes doing his bouncy moves, but luckily the highs don't last too long.

Off topic, took my pup in for eye recheck, and the cataracts have progressed , so he'll need surgery. Any spare vetty /surgery vines would be welcomed, I'm so scared for him, his surgery is booked for August 8th so need to collect as many positive vines as I can before then . And getting eye drops into his eyes is going to be challenging, but I figured this FD test/shoot thing, so I'll just have to work on my eye drop technique now!

I've got lots of eye vines for you guys! My mom is having cataract surgery around that time, so you and I can join forces and have a torrent of eye vines flowing. Also, I've had recurring uveitis which has given me a lot of experience putting in eye drops--surely there's a way to transfer vines of one-person good technique and a compliant recipient to a person-plus-pup eye-dropping combo, right?

@Susan&Felix thanks so much! Sending lots of prayers for your mom's surgery as well, hoping she will have a speedy recovery. From what I've heard, the improvement in vision is often quite good. If only we could transfer your eye drop skills..I tried to give him some regular drops for dry eyes, and just when I squirted the drop, he closed his eye lol, little stinker. Practice makes perfect I guess! Either that or I need to grow another set of arms

Hi Paul, poor Bronx too, I guess you must have had a busy weekend of fireworks with the July 4th celebrations! Hope you both are doing well. Mav doesn't seem to have any issues eating his snacks under the bed so that's a good thing because testing him would be impossible. He was very peppy last night, even though he was hanging out in the 300s. I am hoping to see some blues today .

My sweet pup is a German Shepherd, his name is Phoenix and he has personality and energy to spare, and is very smart. He is only 4 years old, and unlike humans who know that they need to rest and take it easy post-surgery, I suspect he will be hard to convince

MamaBean has enough worry with your fur brother. Please come back to the beach. It’s summertime silly. Thankfully none of my critters seemed phased by the fireworks. It was good to “hear” from you.

Vines for your pup’s eye surgery. That seems young for cataracts. Does Phoenix spend a lot of time outside or on a boat. I was told both of which could bring them on. They make doggie sunglasses which you might want to look into.

Sending plenty of positive surgery vines for Phoenix! Two of my kitties have their ophtalmo also...! For the drops, at the beginning they go everywhere except in the eye but you'll get good at it! If you have a picture of your little big pup, would be fun!!

Thanks Bobbie. Yes it is...unfortunately Phoenix's eye issues are congenital, I discovered he had problems when he was around 6 months old, and took him to an opthalmologist for diagnosis. Since he still had around 50% vision in each eye, it was recommended to prolong the surgery as long as posssible to give him a chance to grow a bit and see if they might not progress too quickly. Luckily they really stayed much the same for 3 years or so, but now they are getting to the point where the surgery needs to be done or he'll not be able to see for much longer. The success rate is pretty high - around 90% in dogs, but I'm still very worried about post-op complications.

I actually do have doggie glasses! I may try and get him used to them, even post op, his eyes will likely be very sensitive to light.

Ah...the signature...I've been meaning to put that back in...truthfully I've gone a bit rogue, I'm not really following any method, using the AT2, and just keeping the dose between 1.25u and 1.5u and feeding multiple meals which seems to work for us. I realized a while back he would always need insulin, so I don't really chase after the lower numbers anymore. Just keeping him happy, playful and healthy is our goal now.

He is beautiful!!!! I love shepherds. When I was a teenager, we had one named Heidi. She was the sweetest dog ever!!!

I missed your post earlier, it has been a while, so nice to see you! Thanks for the extra vines, and as for Mav, he always has better days ahead, just not so many back to back . Mid cycle at lunch wasn't awful, 214 on AT2, so he may be up for some fun tonight on the beach. Civvie brother, Jester tries to help calm Mav in thunderstorms, he stays very close by and follows him which is sweet. Hope you and all the family are doing well and enjoying your Summer

Just feel like hugging him !!! So cute charming little boy! Pretty soon he'll be able to see his buddy Mav, all his toys and everything around so much better !! It's gonna give him more energy... For the drops, you have to be quick, otherwise they move!
