AMPS 196: I think I broke her duration early with last night's food
Last night I wanted to get some sleep; she dropped to 68 by +3 even after I gave her 13% at +2, so I left out some 12% just in case. Then she was up to 178 by +8.

I think I need to just give her the LC food at night; I'll have to just trust that she won't go too low, though. A dilemma...
 
@Beenie , @Gill & George , @LizzieInTexas : Yup, it's like a different cat! But it's the same cat, it's just a different meter. I have done occasional tests before (no longer, now) with the AlphaTrak and the Contour and the FSL (they're on my 2017 SS if anyone's curious), and the difference between the Contour and the AT aren't that extreme, so perhaps she's really turned a corner. I really just think that her numbers look better on the human meter because the SS has been set up for human meters. The only difference between the human and pet meter SS is the dark and light green ranges: all of the other ranges are the same for both meters.

Regardless, we're doing the human meter now as I can't afford the strips for the AT2 anymore. So we'll just see how she goes! I really do hope that she can stay on the drop and doesn't need to increase again...

No, I have to go see the cardiologist re: my tests after the hospital stay and then take Girlie to the vet to discuss why she had so many hypos when she was there. I'm supposed to go away for two weeks at the end of February, and I have to find a way that she can be safe, and I don't know if I'm feeling very trusting of the specialist vet hospital right now! I've found a good pet sitter, but she charges $200/day to house and pet sit...yikes! Then again, the vet charges $200/day to do a blood curve, so there you go...

Alicia, with Maggie on one drop, I saw that she did go into shark territory sometimes. Did you worry about that, though? I'm wondering how likely it is that a cat could actually hypo on just one drop of insulin....?
 
No, I don't really worry about sharks at one drop. Then again, she rarely has a PS below 80. If/when they get into the 70s or 60s I might be more nervous. It's my understanding drops are smaller when a cat is in the green.
Hoping for good news from your cardiologist! :bighug: I'd go with the good pet sitter after the experience Girlie had at the vet... As long as you are confident in the sitter (referred by a friend, good references, etc.)

Thanks, Alicia. I might just let her go on the low carb foods and try not to worry.

Here's Rosy the Pet Nanny! I had a long chat with her on the phone, and she seemed to be knowledgeable. I'm almost tempted to spend a weekend in the motel around the corner and see how Girlie does with her for two days and nights. Is that a nutty idea or what?

No, that doesn't sound nutty to me. Or maybe you just pay her to spend a day and night with you, letting her do everything with Girlie that you normally do. Good training for her and it could give you peace of mind that she is qualified.
