The test results came back and Sara was DX with Pemphigus Foliaceus. After talking with a dermatologist the vet prescribed Cyclosporine instead of steroids because of her diabetes. I had to bring her in for a blood test before she can start the medication. I guess there is a component that together with Cyclosporine in rare cases could cause death, so I have to wait for the test to come back before I start her on them.

But at least we have a DX[!!!] and can go from on from here.

WCR Sara is not a happy cat and is starting not to eat much at all. [She does drink water though] I picked up a couple of syringes from the vets and will probably have to syringe feed. Her #'s have been real weird. Both tonight and last night she was green so I didn't give her any insulin.

Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers for Sara. Meant a lot to me while I was going through this with her. I'm just so glad that I finally know what I am dealing with and can move on. I'm going to call the vets tomorrow towards the end of the day for the results. If they don't have them in by than they will be in on thursday.

Have a nice night everyone.

jan and sara

I'm so glad you finally have an answer and a plan of action. We continue to keep you guys in our thoughts and prayers...I hope she's feeling better ASAP!!!

Hi guys - I am so glad that you have a diagnosis. If I remember correctly (??), Willie has the same thing - Christie might be a good info source for you. I hope all goes well with the bloodwork and Sara can begin treatment soon. Good luck with everything. I expect that once the medication starts she will feel so much better, and want to eat again. as always, you guys are in our thoughts. daily.

Feel better Sara!

I wish I could remember who's cat had pemphigus. Whoever it was, the treatment worked! You might want to put "pemphigus" in your subject line so whoever it was stops by. (And forgive me for not remembering.)

Hi Jan and Sara,
It is good that you finally know what the problem is. I hope you get the blood test results tomorrow so that you can begin treatment. We are continuing to send beautiful healing vines to lovely Sara, and we hope that she will get her appetite back soon. Rusty is going to bring over a nice pot of chicken soup when the KTSS visits Sara this evening.

Thinking good thoughts and continuing to keep Sara in our prayers,

Ella & Rusty

Sending positive vines and prayers for a successful treastment plan for Sara and special thoughts for you, as this has to be hard waiting for results and the worry. Hoping you find others soon with kitties with this diagnosis that can share their experiences.

Jan, I'm so happy that you have a definitive answer. While I don't wish what is, for most cats, a lifelong illness on anyone, it is very good that it is something for which the right medication will provide very prompt relief. I am keeping fingers and paws tightly crossed that cyclosporine is the miracle for Sara that it was for Willie. The stress of his illness was driving up his BG#s and making regulation very difficult. You can see clearly on his spreadsheet when we started (2/15) and how quickly he began to improve.

Sending you a PM as well!

thinking about both of you - glad you got a diagnosis because it's easier when you know what you're dealing with. also so glad that christie has experience and can be a resource for you.

hugs & prayers for the little girl to feel better soon.

((( Jan )))

Glad you have a DX finally, and there are some things to try. I hope Sara has been feeling better. I wonder if this is why she came out of remission...?
