Sandi & Chase in AZ

Member Since 2017
What a long, LONG morning. I had to assist Chase with eating last night, but then he ate some on his own. I left little out overnight and he at that as well. This morning was an entirely different story.

315 a.m. 143
530 a.m. 175
600 a.m. 188

Gave him a little food from the syringe so I could give him his meds... antibiotics, and the other 2 meds. I made the HUGE mistake of crushing them up and putting them in water to give him by syringe. NEVER again. Last night I could barely get him to swallow the pills so I crushed them this morning. It was like torturing him, and I had no idea.
700 a.m. 163 and gave 0.1u. After insulin, he wouldn't eat. He is still stoned from the pain meds. So I had to assist feed, again. I have to get get to work AND be on time. I can't do anymore for him this morning so I hope he's ok. He is purring again. He's urinated one small amount after getting iv fluids at around 430 pm. yesterday and drinking a lot of water after we got home. No BM yet. No more vomiting. He's eating a small lick at a time, but then spaces out. At least I got some food into him. I don't even know if they'll let me come home to check on him today, after missing yesterday.

Prayers, please. Thanks to everyone who commented, prayed, shared advice, and encouraged me. I'll write more this evening. :bighug:

More prayers from us.

Gelcaps can help the meds go down better. Put the pills in an empty gelcap, grease up with a little butter, then pill - follow with a small syringe of water to wash it down. The gelcap prevents them from tasting the pills. As an added bonus, a lot of times you can combine meds into one capsule, thus reducing the number of pillings you have to do.

I have some spare empty gelcaps if you need them....I know you're at work, but check your messages when you have a chance.

I'm home checking on Chase. He is still in the same exact place he was almost 3 hours ago. He is laying in front of his food bowl. He's only taken a couple of licks, but he's still really high from the pain meds.

I'm really worried because he hasn't urinated yet. He's barely eaten so him not having a BM doesn't surprise me, but he got fluids at around 445 yesterday evening and drank a lot of water when we first got home. It doesn't seem right that he hasn't urinated.

I have to go back to work, now. His BG is ok but what do I do about him not peeing? :(

Did the vet check his bladder yesterday? Do you know how much fluid they gave him? I think I would be inclined to give the vet a call about him not peeing since it is concerning to you.

Sending hugs and vines your way. You and Chase are in my thoughts. Sometimes the pain meds make them REALLY spaced out and lethargic. I hope that's all it is and when they wear off a bit, he'll get up and going a bit.
I agree, not a bad idea to give the vet a call if not just to ease some stress if they say it's not something to worry about at this point. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Big hugs Sandi :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: phoebe took some time adjusting to meds too. I finally cut down her bupe. It's a shoot and miss. Whatever works better for him you'll know. Deep breaths momma bean.
The thing is.... they don't dispense that medication here, in Sierra Vista. It was advised against for me to let them give him a shot, but it was the only choice. Either that or leave him in pain. So he was given a long acting pain medication almost 24 hours ago. Hopefully he will be better when I get home from work.

Hey Sandi, ask ur vet for a 'pill gun'. I have given meds two animals all my life and until two months ago never knew it could be this easy. It's Bing Bang Boom done. It generally cost somewhere around 5 to $7 it looks like a large plastic syringe the pill goes in the top and when you grab just under your kitties eyes the bottom jaw normally will open and you just place the syringe which is loaded with the pill that you have to give them towards the back of his throat, done. It has proved so much less stressful on me and my cat hopefully that'll work for you

Thanks, Karen. :)

LOL. If other people saw what we posted or knew how "intimate" we were with our cats!!! LOL

Unfortunately, he hasn't peed again. :( But the first time was the most worrisome. He's TOTALLY acting like himself again.
So glad he is acting like himself. Hope he pees again soon. Speaking of being intimate with our cats--poor little Callie's bottom is just raw from all the diarrhea (which I don't even need to think of how to spell now! ;)) and so I put a dab of Preparation H on her. She was understandably disgusted with me, but hey, I think it helped. LOL

Love seeing this...what a relief! Yep, we "know" our cats all too well....years ago, when some kitties had poo issues, we had "Inspector CrapDash" and "Detective Poo" (Zener's beans Liz and Ann) who handed out "Golden Poo" awards when kitties produced appropriate prezzies. Only in L&LL :p!
I've been doing the Inspector CrapDash all week! Or maybe it is Detective Poo! LOL Love the names! Good to laugh about it, rather than cry, huh?!

Waiting for more liquid gold from Chase...

FD and other ailments we deal with here can be so emotionally draining, so yes - it is always "nice" to be able to find a little bit of comic relief when we can. It really helps the spirit....
