Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123

Just a suggestion --

If you get an out of context number, like your PMPS yesterday, it's often good to re-test. You could have had a bad test or bad strip.

Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123

Hi guys .. numbers are still looking really good for shadow! Good things are happening around here .. have a great day guys!

Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123

I did re-test for yesterday's pmps.

I think it was the raw shrimp dinner. I had noticed previously she had the same kind of spike when she has that dinner.
If we eat shrimp, it's always been her treat to get to have several all at once for her dinner. She had around 10. ( they are the small ones)
I found someone else's post that said they experienced the same thing.

She gets one everyday at shot times. It motivates her to sit there and take it and just growl. Without it , someone has to hold
her down.

I'm trying to figure out how to re-arrange her eating times or maybe her shot time.
Is the most ideal time for them to eat at shot times and then the +4 or +5 area ?
I was focusing on her not eating 2 1/2 - 3 hrs before shot times.
Marge just said to not feed between nadir and pmps so I need to find a new time. she has been getting a small portion
at +4 and again at +8. and once in the night around the +3 or 4 since I'm up. (5 small meals/day)

And I guess we'll give up shrimp at dinner for a month. We usually eat it about every week and a half. I'll go to once a month.

Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123

Nice greens and blues on Shadow's spreadsheet! We feed Zener at PS, +1, +2, +3/4 and +6, roughly. He has appy issues though and won't eat more than 1.3 oz at a time. We feed him more at the first two meals and less later. Good luck figuring out what works for Shadow.

Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123

I'm not sure why shrimp would bump her numbers. However, the Wellness, Lobster, Shrimp, and Herring is a medium carb food so maybe there is something to carbs and shrimp. (Please don't tell Dyana's J.D. or Carl's Bob -- shrimp is their treat, too!!)

As far as feeding schedule, I would look at not feeding after nadir as an experiment. In general, you don't want to feed after nadir. Food after nadir has less insulin to counterbalance the effect of food. However, if a cat's pancreas is producing endogenous insulin, food will stimulate insulin production and bring numbers down. It's one way to know if a cat's pancreas is working.

Shadow's numbers are good. There's an indication that her pancreas is working. If you hold her food and don't feed past nadir, you'll want to keep good records to see what the net effect is on her pre-shot numbers. If those numbers don't look as good after a week, I'd go back to giving some food at +8 or +9 and evaluate if that's helping with the pre-shot numbers. Using food to manipulate the curve is on a trial-and-error basis. All you can do is try a strategy out and see if it works for your cat.

Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123

I'm not sure why either. no carbs.... but higher in phosphorus and cholesterol. It happened the last time she got a shrimp meal too.

I've noticed that a lot of the seafood type varieties jump up in phosphorus ( fortunately she doesn't like too much fish)

She's not keen on the merrick or the wellness which i'd prefer she'd eat.
She likes me to rotate and that's how I get her to eat merrick or wellness , but not twice in a row. She gets cat(2)_steam .

I'm also trying to really rotate the fancy feast because many of those seem to be higher in phosphorus.
(mostly offering the chicken or the turkey )

She doesn't have any diagnosed kidney problems yet.
I'm just applying the rule of "all things in moderation".
She's only going to get older.
I don't want to create new problems by letting her rely on a diet that high in phosphorus. So I look to balance it all.

I know bob does the shrimp treat too. I'll have to go ask him if he ever gives a meal treat of the shrimp.

The only friskies pate she'll eat is tuna flaked with egg in sauce 5%
and she likes poultry platter but it's 7% and i'm shooting for less than 5 for now.

She previously only ate friskies but she was eating the gravy's ones mostly - pre-diagnosis.

Re: 8/8 Shadow AMPS 123 +2.75~82 +4~75 +6~83

wanted to not feed after nadir but didn't get home from work on time.
so she ate right at the beginning of the +7 time slot.
should be able to do it tomorrow.
at least it's a hour and half - 2 hrs earlier than she's been getting food....

Re: 8/8 Shadow PMPS 109

Shadow did not want her shot tonite.
She meowed , or rowwwed, and growled and spit and my dh tried to hold her down and she continued fighting.
She acted like it really hurt.

I'm alone in the morning. I hope we don't have a repeat.
She does not like me tenting her skin at all, anywhere on her body.
I don't use the scruff but it's about the only place I don't get a reaction.

It's 5:15 am.
She woke me up begging for food. ( she chews on my chin /face with no teeth but her jawbone is sharp enough)

gave her some fancy feast kitten tender ocean whitefish feast and went to confirm it's carb # and couldn't find it.
so I must have bought that one thinking it was a different one and it's just unknown.
