Long post warning.

Yesterday was bouncy and I was way too tired to test last night and see if he was mostly flat the whole night.... I am unfortunately on the doorstep of a new school year and will no longer be able to test whenever I need to. :( I am going to try to continue with TR because I see how much progress Radar has made over the summer, but I just don't know if I can maintain it and get my classroom up and running at the same time.

Radar is again having issues with eating... he's fine for a while and then all he wants is babyfood. :arghh: I've given him multiple SEB treatments in recent days and that is helping some. I'm wondering if it's a texture thing and eating the shredded chicken is bothering him while his mouth is still healing. I don't want to upset his tummy so I'm mixing the Velvet TikiCat with baby food and he's eating that ok. He doesn't want to eat much of anything that isn't really smooth. Sadly he won't touch his raw RadCat food... at all. :arghh: I have some Primal rabbit and pheasant and he really doesn't want to eat that either. It's sooooo worrisome when he won't eat consistently and I have to leave him and go to work. I did order a sample of the EZ Complete to try and will mix it with some chicken and see if I can get him to accept raw again. Fingers and toes crossed that we can get him back to eating raw as it's really the best option for him with the suspected IBD.

I've wondered if I should try Mirtazapine to stimulate his appetite and maybe that would help send him to the food dish.???

I'm also wondering if he still has some pain. I don't think he's in pain all the time and I'm hesitant to give bupe to him if he doesn't need it. It's just sooo terribly difficult to tell if he is in pain. :arghh: I'm also a little worried about giving him bupe when I can't be home to monitor him because he tends to fall off things.

The Whole Cat report: He's purring and barking at the birds; He is grooming; LB has some evidence of loose poo which is not surprising bc of the Velvet I gave him last night because he refused shredded chicken. He is also scooting this morning which tells me his anal glands are not expressing probably because of the soft poo... The glands were expressed when the dental was done last week. Playing: I have not seen him run around this morning...

Any thoughts and/or suggestions are welcome.

I do hope Radar feels better soon and starts eating for you. I unfortunately don't have any suggestions, luckily even when Marvin was not eating much, he was at least eating enough that I was not concerned. If it is his teeth still healing, I would think a few more days and he should be good. If like humans, mouth heals quickly.

don't know what dose you have for the bupe but you can lower it if he's falling over.
I used to give Shadow 0.1 mL.... just enough to take the edge off. She had troubles with pain meds but needed them.

It sounds like Radar's mouth may be still bothering him from the dental. He may need the pain meds for a couple of days. Maybe you can try a smaller dose.

Here are some tips on getting a cat to eat that may help:

Do you have any parmesan cheese? If you maybe sprinkle a little of that on her food, she will perhaps eat? usually ondansetron is better for nausea than cerenia but it doesn't hurt to give her the cerenia....it can help.

Can you finger feed her....either see if she will lick food off your finger or will she let you dab some on the front of her tongue or on the roof of her mouth? Just be careful that it's only a small amount and that you don't get it down her throat.

Here's some info Jill often posts when a kitty won't eat:Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core.

-making a buffet to give him choices
- heating food

sprinkle food with :
- forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
- parm. cheese
- smashed crumbles of dry food
- Purebites Duck Liver -- crushed and put on as a topper.
- bonito tuna flakes
- halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
- poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.

other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
- trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
- kentucky fried chicken
- deli turkey /chicken
- plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
-canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
- chicken broth -- low sodium

By any chance did the vet do post-dental x-rays? There's always a possibility there's a remaining piece of tooth that could be bothering Radar. There could also be the possibility of an irritation/inflammation/infection but with the drop into the low greens yesterday, that's less likely. If he's still off his food tomorrow, I'd check wth the vet especially if x-rays weren't done. Eating only smooth food does sound like his mouth may hurt.

Also, please remember that baby food isn't nutritionally complete for a cat. It's OK for a couple of days but it's not good as a steady diet.

The vet did do before the dental xrays. I don't know if he did xrays after he was done with the extraction. I will check with the vet tomorrow if he's still unwilling to eat. Thank you for the clarification about the baby food... I am aware that it is not nutritionally complete but is sometimes a necessary tool.

I did give him a very small 0.1 dose of bupe tonight to help take the edge off any pain that might be there.
