Bell is bouncing again :(. Typical for her, she is also eating much much better and is a lot more active at these higher numbers

In other news, the blood from her pokes just stopped beading up overnight. Now they are distributing throughout the fur on her ears. I have used Vaseline, which helps, but it is harder to get the blood drawn into the test strip and is just an extra annoying step in the poke process :). Super weird that the blood suddenly stopped holding a bead... I thought maybe it has to do with the transdermal Tramadol she is on, but I cleaned both her ears really well last night. Not the end of the world, just strange.

I have been having a similar problem lately and Ivy is using transdermal methimazole for hyperthyroid. I was wondering the same thing as I began having huge issues getting a bead and blood was dispersing in the fur. I always poked the front of the ear.

Lately I have begun using a lancet (I used to only poke freehand) and am now using the BACK of the ear and getting a bead much better.
Not sure if this will help, thought I would share though.
Good luck!!:bighug:

Thank you! It certainly makes me feel less like I’m losing my mind!

By “Back of the ear” do you mean the fur side (back) versus the inner ear side (front)? Or the location of where you are doing the pokes on the fur side of the ear (near the base of the head being “back” and near the tip of the ear being “front”). Sorry I am directionally challenged :)

Back side being the fur side (which is a bit tricky since Ivy's fur is darker, I'm sure as Bell's is also.
Hope this is more clear :)

Thank you! I am poking the fur side of her ear, which was working well until a couple days ago. Maybe I got some transdermal meds on the backside of her ear by mistake. Thought I cleaned it up, but could still be some residue interfering with the pokes. Really good to know it may not be a long term issue. I’ll continue to use the Vaseline in the meantime.
