Opening their condo late this morning because I've spent the last few hours dealing with law enforcement and having both myself and my dog attacked by the same dogs that ripped to pieces the injured kitty I was trying to trap yesterday morning.
Autumn is back on antibiotics for her bad teeth. So we're having to possibly push back her dental until we're done with this round. Since the teeth that need to come out are her upper fangs Dr. Tami doesn't want to chance it until she's gotten the infection is whipped down.
Discovered last night Cassanova will turn himself inside out for raw chicken. He was my last hold out for getting them all back on a raw diet. He finally tasted it and discovered not only does he like it he LOVES it. He ran from dish to dish hoping for leftovers then stood at the fridge and cried for 10 minutes until I gave in and gave him seconds. Lol Silly Boy
Oh, Mel, I am so, so sorry. How utterly horrible for you! I will be sending many good thoughts your way and try to send some Reiki toward the poor kitty. I hope you and your dog are okay.
The board ate my response on this earlier. How annoying!
Mel, that's a horrible lot of badness to follow the stray's horrible death. Are you okay? Is your dog okay? Was the owner a witness or were the dogs just running loose?
Hugs and your own equivalent of raw chicken to you!
We are both fine. Nobody got bit luckily although the flipping owner stood about 50 ft away doing nothing to intercede but call his freaking dog who kept circling trying for a rear attack. Its a black Australia shepherd. Luckily dumb ass had at leashed the dark gray mutt before the black one came after us or it could have been worse. One on one we were good but two would have been bad. Because we could keep circling with the black dog.
But if it was willing to come after an adult and a much bigger dog its vicious. My King is the size of a GSD but built like the Chow. He's big, tall and muscular. He presents a massive force. So not like it decided to attack a toy poodle. Now I'm tiny. Only 5'4" and 120 soaking wet but not the dog with me.
King was not about to let that dog harm his mom he kept putting himself between me and it. Which is actually what scared me the worst. I so didn't want one to charge and end up in the middle of a 127 lb and a 60lb dog throwing down. Or worse have mine rip the throat out of the other one in front of the little kids up the trail. With King's coat that other dog would have a hard time reaching flesh unless it went for legs. But King is powerful enough to have done to it what it did to that poor kitty.
If those dogs ever come after us again he won't need to worry about a leash. And if they get luck and get me or hurt any of my furry kids I'll own everything that owner has or ever hopes to have. Momma taught me not to throw the first punch but you can bet I'll throw the last one.
I know that same terror you felt in the middle with my 70lb guy and the 130lb rottie next door. I'm about 5'5" and 130. My dobie is always leashed and in between us making sure that I'm safe if the rottweiler's even visible, but I know I'll be hurt if anything starts no matter what since I'll also be doing my best to protect my boy. When the rottie last attacked our dog, the owner was present and doing an lazy "hey, come here!" while it was happening (it's happened MORE than once). My 6'1", 200lb husband was holding him that time, and he was knocked over so hard he did a full backward somersault before being able to right himself again and come back to try to break the dogs up. He wasn't hurt, but I know I would have been.
Law enforcement has issued him many off-leash tickets for this dog, but won't go beyond that. I don't know how he hasn't been properly sued yet since I'm positive he's KILLED at least one dog while off-leash and in his owner's presence, and hurt many others. We live near several campsites and the dogs he hurts tend to be visiting ones, which is the only thing I can figure out as a reason why he hasn't been forced to give him up or put him down. The victims aren't local enough to follow through on the proper response. Obviously the dog is really territorial and considers all the camping dogs to be invaders. Not a surprise or something that upsets me by itself. But, the fact that the owner seems to think that it is alright for him to ACT on that instinct and not to restrain him to prevent such behavior is appalling.
I'm no weakling. I broke and trained Arabian horses professionally for 20 years and still lift weights. But there is a big difference between a 1500lb herbivore with baseball bats for feet and a two snarling predators.
I have a permit to carry concealed. And shoot a 96% standing, prone and knealing. My definition of Gun Control is hitting your target ohmygod_smile
My derringer is going in my boot tomorrow morning before I head out for our walk.
