hi everyone,
this is my first post in months - mainly because everything was going so well.

Honey has been OTJ since Feb 2013 and doing great. I was down to testing about once per month and her numbers were pretty consistantly in 50s/60s.
Spreadsheet is up to date.

I went on vacation on 19th July for 2 weeks and a couple of friends looked after the cats.
To make it a little easier on them, I bought some Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Grain-Free Kibble - but the 3 cats were to share 1 cup per day - and then have their regular Friskies pates.

I tested Honey on the evening I got back and she was up to 325. I immediately removed the dry food that was left and tested over the next few days.
Initially, it seemed like her numbers were slowly dropping but now it seems they are holding in the pinks.
I also know she would have been stressed somewhat with me not being here and a stranger coming in - it takes her a few hours to come out from under the bed when I get back from a trip.

Otherwise she seems fine. 4 ps in place and almost playing - but usually wants to do that around 1am so I'm not so keen then
She has put weight on during the last 2 weeks so I'm trying to work on cutting her back a little - adding more water to food.
She isn't drinking or eating noticeably more - in fact, still getting all water from her food and not touching water bowl.
She hasn't been to the vet since November.

So, do I wait longer or do I go and get a prescription for lantus now and get her started again?
If so, what dose? She's around 13lbs but I'm not sure if I should start on a reduced dose.

(The other 2 cats are doing fine. Monster (ex-hyperT) has passed all his follow-up tests with flying colours and is back to his old self.)

Thanks!

Aww... sorry Honey is slipping...
that food must not be a good one at all... gaining weight and high numbers....

I suspect you will be advised to start again.... ( I was tentatively going to start when we were experiencing 150's)

Paws crossed that it will be a short stint and Honey will get right back to the falls asap....

Oh darn! That dratted evil dry food. Sorry about Honey's numbers. I think I'd take her to the vet for a check up and b/w. I've seen cats go off the OTJ wagon because they needed a dental. Best to make sure there's not something else contributing to the numbers first.

Glad to hear Monster is a success story. :-D

Ack! Sorry Honey put on her pink pajamas. I hope you had a good vacation. I once went on vacation and came back to a kitty with a cancerous tumor on her eyelid, so I know the feeling. I'm sure you'll get her back into green in no time. Nice to see the civvies are doing well :-D

I agree with Wendy. Make sure there's nothing health or dental going on. (The vet would probably want to see Honey anyway before giving you an Rx.)

Definitely ditch the dry stuff . I don't know if you recall that Celi's Binks had a similar experience -- dry brought Binks back from the Falls. When a kitty goes to the Falls, remission means food controlled. I'm guessing the kibble you were feeding was at least 15% carb.

Thanks everyone - she's booked in this afternoon at the vets.

The kibble is listed at 7% carbs in a couple of postings on this site - which is why I went for it.
However, it was only going to be a short-term use - they are all back on wet now.

Back from vets.

No dental issues or anything else - awaiting bw.
Vet suggested waiting a few weeks to see if bg settles down - seems a bit long to me - I'll probably give it a week assuming nothing comes back in the bw.

I've read several people here say a second remission is harder and you need to be more aggressive on the dose increases. Hope you get the insulin soon to get those numbers back down.
