Good Saturday Morning, Everyone,

44 degrees here this morning--cold after our heat wave!! We started Stu on Clavamox yesterday evening and so far, so good. He accepts it (with a bit of help from us!). Thanks again to everyone who gave us such important information on this antibiotic and its use. We will have to take our chances that it is the correct antibiotic for the problem, since we can't see the vet until Monday morning. In any event, AMPS is much better than the last 5 days!
WCR: Stu slept on the bed with us last night. He must have been cold!! Woke up to him sneezing 9 times in a row (sometimes he does this). Then he went downstairs and I heard him romping around with his mice, having a really vigorous play. Breakfast installment #1 consumed, lots of pee in the lb, water drunk, Clavamox administered. Then my DH went btb (we both spent a lot of time last night worrying and he didn't sleep well). Stu and I have been outside briefly, but it is so cold that Stu came in after about 10 minutes.
We don't know yet what we are going to do about our trip to NYC next week. Already it has been shoved back to Tuesday because of Stu's vet appointment on Monday. But if it looks like it will be hard on Mr. Cat, we'll just have to forego it (cancel our dental appointments and give away the Mets ticket!). In any event, we have to return on Friday because of obligations here.
All for now. Everyone have a good Caturday. Stu says hi to all his pals and thanks them for their concern.

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271

Morning Ella & Stu! Glad the Clavamox is going down ok...did you red about the Fortiflora?
Would you be taking Stu to the big city with you? If so, maybe it wouldn't be too bad even though he is on the Clavamox...
I guess you will just have to see what the vet says, right? I hope you have a nice day today and can you send down some of those cool temps to me for a change? Happy Saturday!

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271

Stu! DUDE! I am so glad that you are feeling better, and that you are on the yellow floor! Me too, so far! Is that med stuff awful? I really hate it when they give me stuff like that - euuwwww! I hope that it is OK and doesn't taste too bad. Maybe we could hang out some today. It is cool here too, and supposed to rain. bummer on that. We should bake cookies or something - low carb cookies. I love them when the weather is bad. See you!! ~~ Mannie

Hi Ella! Nice to see a yellow amps this morning for Stu - no pink! I hope it all works out OK for your trip next week. Tough decision. I hope that with the weekend of meds on board, and a vet appt on Monday that it all comes together, and you guys can go. Get some rest today, know too well how it is when one can't sleep because we are worried about our furry friends. Hope it warms up some there!, but not too warm...

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271

Hi Ella and Stu,
Maggie wants to lend some support for Stu and hope he starts feeling better soon. She is still talking about all that good food Chef Stu made for her party. Those UTI's sure do make the kitties pee a lot and feel sick. Maggie had one a few months ago. We'll be thinking of Stu and you and sending some positive vibes for a good Vet visit on Monday. Take care.

On another note, are you serious, 44 degrees? :o I was just back on the East mid July, and the heat and humidity were something else.

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188

its nice to see a better amps for Stu, I hope he gets all better and that you get to go to NYC. Sending positive vibes your way

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81

Hi again, Stu is green! 81 at +4. Fed him a teasp. of 8% Merrick and some yogurt with chicken water. He wasn't interested in plain yogurt, but likes it with a small chicken chunk and some of the chicken water from the can. Hope we can get a green surf going in the "safer" greens.
Off now to the farmers' market. Stu enjoyed the sunshine in the garden this A.M.

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25, +6.5 120, eyes

I guess we are having one of Stu's famous days: 25 at +6!!! Fed him some HC made with 12% Merrick plus a little Karo. Jump up to bg 120 at +6.5, so fed some 12% mixed in with his normal LC. Will test him at +7 and if he's in safe territory, we'll try to get in our paddle that we had hoped to do today.
I don't know how any of this jibes with the possible UTI. Pee is still plentiful and smells, but he sure doesn't act sick. No poop yet today, but he had a good one last night and has been eating a little Greek yogurt with cultures mixed into some chicken water.

I wonder about that bg 25 and if it means I should finally take the decrease to .75 unit? Factors to consider: the possible UT infection and the Clavamox he is getting now; the visit to the vet on Monday to determine if there is an infection and what treatment to pursue; the planned trip to NYC on Tues. and return on Friday (Stu goes with us, but it is a change of routine for him and long car rides). Also, I'm still confused about how to interpret the last 5 days. I guess I'm really confused!!! Yesterday I tried to stabilize the dose by deciding on 1 unit (Sienne advised me to pick a dose and stick with it for 6 cycles; we are on cycle #3). I think I need help!

Ella

p.s. 74 at +7; we're leaving an afternoon snack in the automat and going to paddle for a couple of hours.

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25(!), +6.5 120

a 25!?!?!?!? STU! Well I think Stu must have the record. omg.... hooray for HC and karo....

Don't know on the dose - i have a tendency to waver, but have made the decision a while back to: at all times to stick with the dose for the required cycles, unless it poses a risk. I dunno - I think I'd stay with it until you know for sure if there are any other issues - like the UTI ?? And here ya on the new factor coming: a trip - no doubt it will change things some... well good luck - and I hope some of the experts chime in her soon.

and if you can - go for the paddle - it will relax you, get your mind on track. At least those kind of things always work for me. nature is the best cure-all.

Just to clarify, there is no required number of cycles on a reduction, just on increases. If a reduction is needed, you have to take it.

I wonder if the Clav is already starting to work on whatever is bothering him? If he's already feeling better, that could make the numbers go down.

It looks like you usually do your reductions just by a drop at a time, and that works out. But for a 25 I would generally say that asks for a 0.25 reduction. I could go either way, so I think it depends on your comfort and your availability to monitor.

There, was that helpful? (not!)

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25, +6.5 120, eyes!

I know you want to stick with a dose. BUT a 25 says decrease to me.
If this was my kitty, I would take the decrease of .25u and not just a drop off the current dose. :-D

Have fun on your paddle. And I'm so jealous of the cool weather you are having!

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25, +6.5 120, eyes!

Oh my, 25! Good luck with the dose decision!

I hope Stu gets the ok from the vet to go on your trip, it would be a real shame to have to miss it.

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25, +6.5 120, eyes!

You stick with a dose unless the numbers dictate otherwise and Stu told you what he thought about that dose!

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25, +6.5 120, eyes!

I stand clarified on my statement... yes on the reductions when you are below or in the 30's. since we, Mannie that is, has never seen a number that low, we run for the required cycles until we do - sorry if i have added to the confusion.

Delighted that you went for your paddle. And I hope you had good weather. It has rained all afternoon here today - glad I headed out this Morning.

Hope Stu behaved himself while you were gone... and has a great number for pmps.

oh - and this I have to share... Mannie's labs came back - all is well (or so she says - i still need to get a copy) - though his BG there was a 403 - no surprise. her comment was that he's on the wrong food - wellness is no good, and I should go back to MD if I want any hope of remission.   I smiled sweetly and said, ok, MD it is (as if!). Mannie??? remission??? and wellnesss sucks??? omg - MD is what 14% carbs? amazing!

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +2.5 188, +4 81, +6 25, +6.5 120, eyes!

   25....at +6....am I seeing correctly here??? OMG!!! I'm certainly glad that you were able to get him to come up some, Ella! I do believe that a dose crease is definitely in order!!!

hope you had fun on your paddle!

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +6 25(!), PMPS 316

Thanks everyone, Unfortunately we got back late from the paddle (met some friends)--just in time for PMPS--so I shot a 1.00 unit before I read your comments (he had really bounced (bg 316), so I guess it was OK to shoot through the rebound?) In any event, I'll monitor carefully tonight and take the .25 reduction to .75 tomorrow morning.
Gave the Clavamox tonight and most of it wound up on Stu's fur. He cleaned it somewhat!
Just then a neighbor cat appeared at the back door and Stu went ballistic. He's calmed down a bit, so I'll wait a little and do a +2.5 to see if the "altercation" had any adverse effects on bg.
This is turning out to be some day!!
Thanks again to you all!

Ella & Stu

p.s. to Michelle: great story about your vet's opinion of what food to feed! Also, now we both know about the difference in procedure between dose increases and decreases! (I think I already knew it, but I got really messed up the last few days).

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +6 25(!), PMPS 316

What a day for Stu! I hope the bounce clears soon. The cat episode sounds like Mannie and the stray that we have come visit - one would think it was the end of the world the way he carries on... poor Stu: an invader!

Have a good night- and good luck with the dosecrease!

p.s. to ella - well if your messed up then I am really messed up. I think we both knew this - one gets caught up in the overall scheme of events which at times can muddle the fine details that we need to pay attention too. just when i think i really have a handle on it, I realize I don't. I still can't believe the 25. amazing - and so fortunate that you caught it. and a good laugh on my vet and her food opinion.

Re: 8/7 Stu AMPS 271, +6 25(!), PMPS 316, +2.5 327

 25! Stu does like to get your attention doesn't he. Good luck on the abs and the vet visit.

On the Fortiflora, I just ordered some from Medi-Vet.com through Amazon. It was only $19 there. I ordered it on Wed., it arrived on Fri. That is the fastest I've ever seen. Tess will be there for the "I Dislike Vets" party to help get the smell off Stu. He doesn't have to cook, the crew will take over and he can chillax after his ordeal.

Hey Guys, I'm ready to chillax already! It will be great if you come to help get the vet smell off of me on Monday. You can help me pack for my trip to the city, too. My beans think I can handle it ok (I think so too). Thanks for looking in on me today. Anyone want to go for a pink surf tonight???

Stu

Yes!!! I am soooooo there! I think we should hit the beach, have small cookout, ride the waves. We need Tess too - she's all freaked out at home, and wants to get away for some fun stuff. Stu - dude they had ants and stuff, and water in the house, and the vacuum was always running - it's really scary there. So surfin' OK? ~ Mannie. ----- ooooo - it so cool that you get to go to the city! dude! THE BIG CITY!, and a hotel and stuff?? and room service?? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you !!~~ Mannie, again

pink night for Stu - guess he is entitled after that 25.
