Good morning everyone!

Really, really sorry to hear about Maggie this morning.

Nothing exciting, nothing to report. Maybe Bob's still in a bounce, maybe his numbers are high from the dry food. No clue what's going on, have just decided to chill and take one day at a time. I'll do the best I can for my Boo and that's all I can do. All I know is I got another extraordinarily stinky poo this morning. Haven't determined if it's Bob or Hector, but they DO NOT cover their poop because they obviously were raised in a barn. Penelope is way more polite.

I attached some pictures of Bob just because he's so handsome and he really likes to sit in the laundry basket and random boxes. Can't resist taking pictures.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Cute pics of Bob! Sorry about the stinky poos - that's one thing I really don't miss going to a raw food diet.

Sounds like it's time for patience pants at your place. Can't comment on what is happening by the numbers, the SS, seems a little bare lately. ;-)

Come on down Bob, pink is for girl cats! Blue is much better for boy cats.

Re: 8/6 Bob=336 Pics attached

Bob sure is handsome! I can't even tell you how many kitty pictures I take every day...crazy cat lady to the core!

Hi Wendy - I'm taking a break from poking Bob too much while he's in his ginormous bounce. Poor little baby. Actually, I do have some numbers to enter, I just forgot to bring Bob's meter to work with me to update his ss. What raw food do you feed? Maybe I could try that. Bob really doesn't like to eat chicken (cooked) so I assumed he wouldn't like it, but maybe I could try....

Hi Amy! I know, they will laugh at me when I die and they see how many pics of my cats are on my phone. Oh well. I can't think of anything better to take pictures of...

Hands up who's phone wallpaper and screen saver is a picture of their cats. What, you too?

My kitties are on a variety of raw proteins. The brand I mostly used isn't sold in the US, but I also get Nature's Variety. If Bob isn't into chicken, you could also try something different like venison. My kitties eat chicken, turkey, venison and kangaroo in rotation. Roo is the favorite, but I don't think you can get raw roo in the US. For some reason, some kitties seem to like red meat better than poultry. Maybe it tastes more like mouse?

Well, I could give it a try! I think a doggie boutique near here sells the raw. I've often wondered why they don't make mouse cat food. It grosses me out just thinking about it, but since that's what kitties eat, maybe they should make it. blah. Maybe they could sell whole mice in the raw section of the pet food store. I'm grossing myself out....

Re: 8/6 Bob=336 Nature's Variety Raw????

Hey Wendy (or anyone else who uses Nature's Variety) -

I think I'm going to pick up some samples of the raw for Bob. Have no idea how it will go over, but it's worth a try. Could you answer my questions below about the raw ?

1. Do you know anything about the freeze dried raw? This is the nutrient analysis:

Crude Protein (min): 40.0%
Crude Fat (min): 34.0%
Crude Fiber (max): 8.0%
Moisture (max): 4.0%'

Is that too high of carbs? Too much fat?

2. I talked to my doggie botique and they said they come frozen (for dogs AND cats) in patties - is there anyhting you have to be careful of? My kitties won't get heebie jeebies from raw food will they? How do you feed them?

3. Did your kitties eat them right away? The owner of the store said her kitties don't like the raw but they like the freeze dried. Might be too high carb though...

Bob is such a cutie. I can see why you take lots of pictures. I hope the stinky poo goes away soon.

Re: 8/6 Bob=336 Nature's Variety Raw????

The Nature's Variety products are list on page 27 of Dr. Lisa's list. Duck, rabbit, and bison are rather higher phosphorus, so I'd stay away from them, but the rest are all low carb. You should be able to get sample packs to try out. Page 26 says that the Nature's Variety freeze dried dehydrated is for supplemental feeding only, not a complete meal. It doesn't have the carb numbers.

I pull out a the number of patties I want for the next day, and put them in a ziploc plastic tub in the fridge to thaw. The Nature's Variety chicken doesn't actually look all that different from canned food. They are 65 calories per patty, so 3 of those is about right for Neko for the day. When thawed, I just portion out like I would canned food. As it says on Dr. Lisa's list, each batch is cultured for bad bugs, before it goes out the door. Just make sure you clean the dishes, containers and spoons with warm soapy water after use. The one issue with raw is that you can't leave it out for hours for them to nibble on. Neko gets part of her serving at PS, then I have an autofeeder with an ice pack to keep it cool for her next 2 servings.

In transitioning cats to raw, they are very much ECID. For Neko, I just put some in front of her and she was transitioned. I actually started her with 50/50 for a couple of days first, but it didn't seem to matter. The civie was slower. I started 25% raw for a few days, then 50%, then 75% then all the meal. I do add a bit of warm water to the food to bring out the flavor. Originally the civie didn't like the turkey flavor, so I had to add freeze dried chicken dust to it. The place I get the raw for my kitties has a page on transitioning to raw. Look down the page for the part on cats. Like I mentioned earlier, some cats (like my civie) prefer the red meats to poultry.

Re: 8/6 Bob=336 Nature's Variety Raw????

If you go to their website, I think they might still have a $3.00 off coupon. I used it for a small bag of the frozen chicken, but Poe don't like it ohmygod_smile

One of these days Ima get creative and dress it up just so he eats it....maybe parmesian or something...I have bonita flakes...but he will pick around to get the flakes :-D

Re: 8/6 Bob=336 Nature's Variety Raw????

I really like the pic of Bob in the box....

Nature's Variety has other flavors besides chicken. And they have pellets too instead of just patties.
I've tried several different brands to try to get mine to switch..... the one she likes best is a brand called Primal. They have more choices
than Nature's variety.... but the turkey is tastier than the chicken.
Both websites have a store locator search so you can find the closest store that sells it.

Thanks everyone! I will check out all the links. Keep your fingers crossed!

I love the pictures Dara! Especially the bottom one--he looks a bit like someone I know. I tried the NV Raw with Gobs and he despised it, however, drooler was thrilled because she got it as a "hand me down"....

That's so funny that Bob looks like someone you know!

I was able to order a sample of the raw. I'm hoping for the best, but who knows!

Re: 8/6 Bob PMPS=279 KETONES???

Bob is testing .6 on the ketone meter. Is that bad? It's the highest I've ever seen. What number do I have to be worried about?

Re: 8/6 Bob=336 Nature's Variety Raw????

I feed NV Raw to Tess and Emma and they loved right off the bat. Unfortunately, lately they seem to have gone off it. I wonder if the recipe has changed? The venison was a fave, but now they hate it. It smells different to me too, more like the lamb. Unfortunately w/ Tess being early CKD, Primal is out because it is too high in Phosphorus.

From what I've read on here about ketones, as long as he's eating, drinking, getting his insulin, and doesn't have an infection, he should be ok. If he'll drink the tuna water, maybe give him some of that to make sure he's hydrated.

And his PMPS is nice! He's starting to clear bounces quicker I think....

Hey Sienne-where did u get that info? Deb says the manual showed .6 - 1.4 is cause for concern. Just trying to decide if I should take him to the vet tomorrow or not.
