WCR: Most Ps in place. She seems to be feeling better today. In fact, she was quite obnoxious this morning and re-woke me up at +2.5. I got a little worried that her BG was low, so I hopped out of bed to check her BG...220. Apparently, she didn't want her Ocean Whitefish and it was my duty to get her better fuds. :-D  She's curled up next to me on the couch and I'm being completely lazy and haven't called the vet to get her some more fluids. But that totally requires putting on real clothes and leaving my house. :YMSIGH: Ok, as soon as this episode of "Gilmore Girls" is over, I'll go. ;-)

Question 1: how should I dispose of the old bag of sub-q fluids? It's empty; no needle.
Question 2: I'm starting to notice a pattern that when I give her a full 100mL fluids, she pukes about an hour later. When I've given ~85mL, she's been ok. Does this mean that the 100mL is too much for her?

Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

I'm glad Shasta is feeling better today. I hope you were able to get the fluids for her.

Re: 8/5 Shasta PMPS=269 fluids, insulin & puke...oh my!

Hi Carla, I got the new fluids; gave her 100mL; puked an hour and a half later. Afterwards, she came into the bathroom and chatted with me as I fixed my nails. And...she jumped up on the toilet to get to the sink basin. YAY! :-D She's resting next to me, but I have to go feed horses now. Hopefully she'll come back and love on me after I finish feeding and showering.

Re: 8/5 Shasta PMPS=269 fluids, insulin & puke...oh my!

It's good to hear Shasta is behaving more like herself!

I'd check with the vet but my inclination is that if she doesn't puke if you give her less than 100 ml of squids, then give her the amount that doesn't make her puke!

Re: 8/5 Shasta PMPS=269 +2=171 fluids, insulin & puke...oh m

Nice to find the blue floor, Shasta. :-D I'd give less fluids too. :-D Cats are picky about their claws, she probably thought you weren't doing it right.

We always put put empty bags, without lines or needles, in recycling.

Are you using Normosol R fluids? These can make them vomit. It's not uncommon. There is a shortage of Lactated Ringers Soln but it is a better option if you can get it. It doesn't have so much magnesium, it doesn't sting, and it shouldn't make her vomit. Unless a cat has lymphoma, LRS is a better option because it has lactate which is metabolized in the liver to bicarbonate which can help prevent mild metabolic acidosis (which is different then DKA).

Thank you, Sienne. I will call her vet tomorrow, but sometimes I think he just appeases me because I'm that "crazy lady" with the diabetic cat that gets all of her answers from the other crazy cat people on that diabetic cat board.

Liz, you're right. She really doesn't understand why I'm not running my nails down a rope-clad tower, but instead I use those weird clipper things and a file!!!

Thanks, Marje. In the recycling it goes! And yes, she is receiving Lactated Ringer Solution. I wonder if the time of day that I give her the fluids could be a factor. I try to give her fluids early in the day that way, if she has a bad reaction, I can rush her to my vet's office...3 minutes away! But lately, with the workers here and such, it's been later in the day. Yeah, I doubt that has much to do with it. Oh well.

Shasta's appy is a little weird tonight. I think I may have messed her up by cleaning my paint brushes...boiling vinegar. ewwww. :? Hopefully, she'll eat better in the morning.
