http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/8-4-scooter-still-not-eating.217740/#post-2419660 Hi everyone! I am SOOO relieved! Scooter is eating again! We went to the vet today. He drew blood for the pancreatitis test and gave him a B12 shot. I also got a tube of Nutrical. When I got him home he was looking at Jessie's kibble and looking in the pantry. I got him some of his freeze dried chicken and he ate a few bits, I gave him a little of the Nutrical and left him with a buffet of 8 kinds of wet food, kibble and more FD chicken. When I got home from work he had eaten a little kibble and a little chicken, but none of the wet food. I found one more kind of wet food and gave him some and he ate like he was starving (which he really was). Despite the NS's, kibble and Nutrical, his BG was only 66 at PS. I gave him 1/2 unit (his regular dose is 1.25) because I wasn't sure how much he would eat the rest of the cycle. He's had another small snack of the wet food and ate it well. I'm afraid to let him have too much at a time after not eating for 4 days. I still have no idea what is causing these spells of nausea, but hopefully we'll know something more when his blood work comes back. Scooter and I really, really appreciate the prayers, vines, advice and support we've had from all of you the last few days!
Great news, looks like the new wet food is a keeper. So happy he's eating, its always so worrying when they are off their food.
It’s a Purina Proplan. It’s 9% carb I had it to boost his BG just a little. It may be too high to let him eat it all the time, but he’s eating it, so for a few days it will be fine. So far it’s not raising his BG.
Nutrical is a sticky gooey gel that is very high in calories, B12 and other vitamins. I’ve used it before to get kitties who haven’t been eating to eat. It just gets something in them to pep them up and make them feel like eating. It has corn syrup and molasses in it, so it’s not the best thing for an FD kitty, but yesterday it was anything that might work. You only have to give them about a tsp.
Tigger refused to eat for 2 days a couple weekends ago. He didn't vomit (how could he with no food?!), he didn't have diarrhea, he didn't have anything else wrong. We tried like 5 different foods. No luck. Then I opened a can of Weruva's new pate cans - specifically Press Your Lunch, and the boy ate every last drop in one sitting. Eventually he took a massive BM and hasn't looked back since. He honks now when he smells it. He purrs WHILE eating it. I don't want to jinx anything cause its an amazing find for a cat with FD and CKD (carbs only 6 and phos 175, and its sooo wet. like it can be poured out of the can not scooped) but I can't stop singing its praises! Good Luck!
