Sabrina's 8/4 Condo
Good Morning! ~O) ~O) Yesterday the vet recommended Dasuquin natural anti-inflammatory versus a small dose of bupe for pain.....She said no NSAIDS because of Sabrina's liver issues. I'll be making my way over there a little later to get a copy of her Idexx Liver panel & ALK/Phos  Does anyone have info on this supplement...sugar, dye free? In the meantime, last night her BG slid down to a beautiful blue & Nadir was a green meadow  , but of course this morning Miss Princess had other ideas of her own  Today I'll monitor her, but thinking she might have gone even lower than the 89.......but w/o definite proof......I can't assume. I also left out 1/8 cup of Young Again Zero Carb overnight......also possibly raising her BG :?: Have a wonderful Tuesday & I'll keep everyone posted.....again if anyone has info on the supplement, comments are greatly appreciated  Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

Re: 8/5 Sabrina AMPS 345, +2 356, Bouncy Time!!!! ? Cosaqui

Cosequin is not for pain. If Sabrina has pain, she needs a pain med. Bupe is one of the best for cats.

I've used cosequin for what it was intended which is an anti inflammatory for arthritis and also bladder inflammation (not infection). While I never saw any positive results from it in my cats, others have. It won't hurt her and it won't raise her BG but it will not address pain.

As I said in yesterday's condo, buprenorphine (bupe) is not an NSAID. It is a narcotic and works well in cats. Neko gets it twice daily long term for her arthritic pain.

Both my cats get glucosamine supplements (which is what Cosequin is), Neko for her arthritis inflammation and the other for his bladder issues. Cosequin won't hurt, but it won't help address Sabrina's pain.

Re: 8/5 Sabrina AMPS 345, +2 356, Bouncy Time!!!! ? Cosaqui

I agree, Cosequin won't work for her current pain, but in the long run it may relieve the cause of the pain. It takes a while though. It is just like the glucosamine/chondroitin supplements for humans, just dosed for cats. If she is in pain now, she needs bupe now.

Thanks Everyone!!! I'm having a hell of a time trying to convince the practice to give me bupe. The receptionist said to me yesterday "The doctors don't prescribe pain meds for pancreatitis"..................WTF  I'm trying t be patient, but my last nerve is now being frayed...........& I know bupe isn't an NSAID, but thou out holier than thou vets think they're god.................Thanks everyone for listening to my rant angry(2)_cat Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

Re: 8/5 Sabrina AMPS 345, +2 356, +4.5 271-bounce & Cosequin

Did you look at the list of reference papers Marje included in her primer on Pancreatitis? There is article listed by Idexx on Treating Feline Pancreatitis you might want to print off and give them. Good luck.

Re: 8/5 Sabrina AMPS 345, +2 356, +4.5 271, +7.5 253 *New La

Hi everyone!!!! I just posted Sabrina's labs from last Friday..........I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions from experienced eyes ;-) I have a call into the vet to ask a couple of questions, 1. After the DKA Dx, what might her problem be.....fatty liver, pancreatitis, cancer :?: nailbite_smile When she was hospitalized she had 2 cavity ultrasound & it showed fluid...they didn't know why.....someone on or forum(apologies from me as I can't remember who asked the question) asked if the vet clinic did a needle aspiration...IDK. Now she has Dasuquin as a dietary supplement 1 cap per day. Tomorrow's fight will be why no bupe :?: :?:  and I'll probably email the links directly to their office, OMG :!: :!: Have a great evening Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon

PS.....they gave me Dasuquin, not Cosequin..........same difference?
