Hi LL!

Day 2 of initial fast-tracking not showing much improvement. Onyx is at least eating/drinking regularly, so hopefully ketones will remain at bay. She doesn't seem to be quite as lethargic today and she's wanted lots of love, so that gives me hope. When she hides, I can't help but worry.

Deb - I will try to take a decent curve today to be sure no low dips have a chance to be missed. If she stays high, I will definitely do the increase tomorrow. I sure do wish we would have started this on a 1/2 dose a few days ago. These 1/4 doses are really difficult with the stiff Relion syringes. But maybe we'll get lucky and good things will happen today.

Kat - thanks for the suggestion on getting a Young Again sample from the company. They were super helpful and it's already on its way. They actually emailed me a lot of great information that I'd like to share with the group as well. The Word doc is from their in-house Vet. I have to say, Young Again provided me with one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. They emailed me right away and asked that I keep them updated on her progress and how she responds to the food. I won't give up trying the wet food, but I'm glad you guys talked me into switching to this one instead of Wellness Core. Even though supposedly WC is 11%, there has been NO change what-so-ever in switching her from Blue Buffalo. So perhaps she's REALLY sensitive to carbs, and zero is the way to go. I guess we'll see later this week how she responds to it.

Thanks again everyone for all the support!

There are 2 detailed charts I was trying to attach from Young Again, but it says they're too big.

Hi Brandi--

Wow on the YA company! And that's great that you probably should have your sample in a few days' time.

Keep on testing for those ketones--I know I did A LOT when Gobbles' was mid-high and high.

Hang in there, sweetie :-D

Here's the link to Onyx's condo yesterday. It's really helpful if you could include the link to your previous condo each day. Just open up your previous condo, copy the address ( starting with http:// ), go back to your new condo, select the URL button, then paste the address of the previous condo inside. There's a fancier way to get the words in there, but the link is all that's really necessary.

I see Onyx has made quite the drop to that +2. That usually means more action in the cycle. Paws crossed you'll see some nicer colors today. If you do start seeing nicer numbers, your increases will be in .25U increments and get you back on the line again. :-D

I do hope you'll continue to try finding a wet food that Onyx will eat. If she were to go low in a cycle, the way to handle numbers includes feeding high carb wet (or medium carb wet if the cat is carb sensitive), and that's really hard to do if the cat will only eat dry food. Also, dry food takes longer to metabolize and if the numbers are low, we want the numbers up fast and dry food won't do that. I can't remember if you've tried raw food. I've heard of some dry food addicts who will eat raw but didn't like canned. Nature's Variety sells sample packs you can try. We've just tried the chicken, not much smell to it.

Hey Kat!

eah, they are really great at Young Again. I've actually even been emailing back and forth with them since the call. I just asked them if they have any "transition instructions". I would imagine there will be a certain amount of withdrawal Onyx's body will go through by cutting out ALL carbs, especially when you consider over 11 years of high carb diets. I know my mom and I did a low carb diet recently, and by day 3, I thought there was something seriously wrong. But it was just withdrawal. Usually on dry food, I've been able to make quick transitions of 2 or 3 days, but I'm thinking I might have to go slower, even though I will just want to switch her 100% right away. How did you handle the zero carb with your kitty?
