Happy Caturday, LL!

Racci had a green night and kept me awake out of my own nervousness since I didn't know if she would go low or not. She was actually a good girl tho and surfed the 60's so as it turned out all was well. Who knows though if I hadn't been awake testing and feeding, steering the numbers, she might have gone low.

At any rate, she's nice and low this morning as well and all p's have shown themselves. Racci will probably be low again today. This is her favorite dose but one that she has to be watched on and I ran out of k. litter! I need to see if I can talk DH into going to the store or I will have to leave her alone. I didn't get the shopping done since I babysat all week instead of just one day. I also realized this morning that I'm almost out of zobaline! I thought I had one bottle left but this was the last one so on my way to reorder that online and hope it comes quickly!

Racci's fur has grown back on her bottom and it looks like she may have another one of those sores so I may have to bring her in to the vet. I hate doing that since she gets so upset but she really needs a shave again. It seems that as soon as her fur grows back down there she gets sores. I guess even though I clean her the germs cling to the fur? I can't think of any other explanation. She will probably need antibiotics and a special cleanser again though. :YMSIGH:

I hope everyone is doing well today and if not I'm sending well wishes. TTYL

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 8/4-Racci-AMPS-101

Hi Jane!

Thanks, yes it was the perfect surf. I'd like to see her do more of that.

I wish I knew a permanent solution for her problem with those sores. I wash her every time she poops & even when she just urinates if she calls me then. The vet said to keep her dry and I guess when the fur grows back she's just not dry enough but the fur isn't even long yet! I guess I need to get one of those electric shavers like the vet has and start doing her myself. I'm so afraid of hurting her tho.

I've been meaning to get over and congratulate you on your OTJ trial! How exciting! Good luck!

You have a great Caturday too, Jane!

Re: 8/4-Racci-AMPS-101

Thanks!

Hmm, that's puzzling, about Racci's problem. Are they just "undefined" sores, or could they be related to an underlying condition? Herpes comes to mind off hand, but I can't see your profile right now (on my iphone), so I'm not sure if you've ruled that out. How long has she had this? Could she be sensitive to any chemicals or cleaning products (if she maybe scoots her butt over carpet habitually)? How are her anal glands? Any food changes or litter changes?

Could you try an antibacterial salve/ointment maybe?

I hope you get answers!
Jane

Re: 8/4-Racci-AMPS-101

Hey, Melanie -

I wondered where you were. I hope you got some sleep after having such a late night. Nice surf last night/this morning, Racci! Yeah, I probably could've left Hershey, too, but was afraid not to be here if he needed me.

SO SORRY about Racci's sore! I hope it clears quickly and you find a solution to keep her from getting them. I don't know what kind of shaver the vet has, but the clippers my guys use have guards, so you can't cut yourself.

I know babysitting threw a kink in your week (errands, etc.) but you loved it! I hope you worked out how to get more supplies...speaking of supplies, I need to order more test strips so I don't run out on vacation!

Have a great day -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Re: 8/4-Racci-AMPS-101

Morning Melanie - wonderful day yesterday with Racci and the greens. WOO HOO! Sure is off to a nice start today too.

Good luck with resolving the sores. I hope all clears up soon.

Re: 8/4-Racci-AMPS-101

Hi Jane,

The sores are a form of strep that she keeps getting on her butt, not in her anus but around the area. She is very prone to infected anal glands too though. Right now, it doesn't look like the anal glands are infected but I can see the start of one sore nearby where she had one the last time. I'm wondering if it's a scar or a new one. With the fur covering it now I can't really tell but she doesn't want me to clean that spot so I'm assuming it's a new one. When she poops she never expels all of it! A tiny piece always winds up left over and stuck on her and I'm sure that has something to do with it. I taught her to call me when she goes and she does so I go in and clean her immediately but when she isn't clean shaven she infects again! The poor baby spends half her life on ab's. I'm going to try that newsprint litter, I think and see if that helps any. Right now she uses natural pine pellets with no additives. She can't use anything clumping or that powders. This one has been pretty good for her but I'll give the newsprint a try. I hope it doesn't stink though. The vet said no ointment but a powder is ok. The ones that work best are scripts naturally and expensive so I use them when needed and the less expensive daily. I just don't know of anything else that can be done and the vet didn't have any other ideas.

Re: 8/4-Racci-AMPS-101

Hi Libby & Michelle,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. DH is going to the store so needed me to hold his hand through getting him out the door.

Libby, I went to do some things that had to be done before bed & then to test Racci & didn't realize how long I was gone. :-| The clippers/shaver is probably the same one. Does yours give a clean shave? I don't know how to use them so it scares me. I don't know what I could practice on before I worked on her and it's such a delicate area. Poor Racci!
I had already ordered everything else I needed but somehow thought I had another bottle of the zobaline. I just ordered another 3 so hopefully they'll get here fast. Having little Jesse so many days this week really did throw me for a loop. After sleeping most of yesterday and late today though, I'm starting to feel more normal. I just have to catch up with laundry and the house now! Thanks!

Hi Michelle! Thanks! Yes, she's on a really nice surf. She's back down to the greens (81) at +3 so it looks like it might be another good day for her. Yesterday she had a +6 nadir so I guess she's switched again. She keeps me hopping. I don't know what I'm going to do about her constant reinfections. Maybe I need to have the carpets cleaned. I only have it in the bedrooms but maybe there's something on it bothering her? I don't know.

I hope I can get to visit some condos today! This has been such a busy week for me I've barely visited & really miss doing so. Well ttyl & thanks for visiting!

Racci is still a fairly low green so it looks like I'll be up again tonight unless she goes up within the next 2 hours. Once her new dose hits if she hasn't gone up, I'll have to stay up with her again. ohmygod_smile

Lovely to see Racci having the green PS! Planning for a party Racci? Pls invite Rosy as she' loves hiking at night  I'd rather she go to your party!
Melaine, is the litter sand Racci's using scented? Can it be the sand irritating her sore?

Hi guys. Nice numbers and great surfing. I should have stayed awake last night too as it seems Charlie may have dunked her head in the water rather than surfing on top of it. Not so sure.

Keep up the good work and hope all is well with Racci. Sorry to hear about the sores but I am amazed that you've managed to teach Racci to call you. Smart kitty.

If you have the carpets cleaned, might be a good idea to rent a carpet cleaning machine yourself and use a more natural product that has no chemicals in it. Just an idea.

Happy Surfing!

Hey, the more the merrier! You're all invited to Racci's sleepover pajama parties any time. I went into the kitchen to clean up after dinner and missed you both, sorry.

Racci uses unscented natural pine pellets with no additives, Helen. She can't use clumping litter because it sticks in her fur and she can't use anything that makes a powder because of her asthma so I have to be careful with it. The only other kind that ever worked that I've tried is the Johnny Cat but it doesn't get rid of the odor like the pine pellets does and it's a little too fine for Racci's asthma. I like pellets for her.

I can't do the rugs myself because of my back and shoulders but there are companies that use natural products. I'd have to do that if I go that route. I just hate investing in them when I'm going to get rid of the carpets. Maybe I'll use my dil's small cleaner and not worry about a great job but just get it clean.

Racci & her mom Calli (ga) have always been amazingly easy to teach anything. They're very smart and have large vocabularies that they understand. Racci does a lot of things like that. She knows what 'turn around' means and does it, After only 2x of showing her she learned how to use a fairly complicated route to get down from the window seat herself since she can't jump any more, when I ask if she's hungry and she is, she licks her lips and silently talks to me with her lips like a person does. If she's not hungry she'll just turn her head from me. She's a lot of fun to teach since she learns so fast.

Thanks for your well wishes and support. I'm about to test her now and see how much longer I have to stay up. Talk to you soon if you're still awake. Thanks!
