A really nice night for Harley. +5/170 but I did give a small amount of MC food since I did not want him to go down too low while I was asleep. Gave 3 pieces (small) raw chicken at +11.5 - he was again crying for his food. Wonder if that brought him up over 300 or did he fall too low last night and I didn't catch it.

Better day today for mom. Have a good day.

Nice to see bloo again! Glad to hear it's a better day for mom.

I think feeding him at +5 was fine. I'm not sure about the raw chicken at +11.5 - I don't know anything about raw. The latest we fed BK was a good size chunk of kitty crack (freeze dried chicken breast) at +10. We became and still are very consistent about feeding BK. FWIW It goes like this:

+12 (11am/11pm) - 1/2can LCFF - shot
+4 (3pm/3am) - 1/4 can LCFF - timed feeder
+8 (7pm/7am) - 1/4 can LCFF - timed feeder
+10 (9am/9pm) - 1 chunk kitty crack - timed feeder
(he is 11.4lbs which looks like a perfect weight on him)

For us the timed feeder was a life/sanity saver since BK spends the nights alone. BK lives in a separate building from us (BK central) - a cottage behind our house. That is also where my office is and where I spend my work days.
When we had crazy spells we fed around the above, in other words he got the above plus the additional tsp of LC,MC,HC as needed - whatever the numbers called for. On those nights I slept (between tests) in my office.
It was 11 months before BK had his first taste of HC, his insulin resistance was so extreme.

Since BK was born and lived as a city street cat for 5 years before we took him in, I'm sure he ate around the clock. Our other adopted strays are fed, by us, on a different schedule, 1/2 can each at 8am,1pm,6pm,10pm and still it's not unusual to see them eating a mouse or rat in the wee hours. So I figure it's natural for BK to eat in the wee hours as well.

So that's our eating story..(I better get in the shower!)

I think my feeding schedule is erratic. I generally feed when he cries and then there is the auto feeder. Being an RD, I know that all food that you eat turns into blood sugar but at certain %. Fat is the lowest, then protein, then carbs (100%). That is in humans, don't know about felines.

I need easy stuff. I know that Heather talked about dehydrated chicken and that she makes her own. Harley likes the freeze dried salmon but it seems like that really raises his bg and I don't know what is in it or what they use during the drying process. What freeze dried chicken do you use. I did try Halo chicken but Harley turned up his nose. Loves the raw stuff.

I really need to come up with a set feeding schedule - AND stick to it. That would level out his bg.

Wish I could help you on that. We are free feeders though. Both of our kitties will just eat a little at a time, so it is easy for us to do that. I know that Tarragon doesn't like any of the freeze dried stuff. I just use boiled chicken breast for snacks and it doesn't affect his BGs.

That's what we use, used it for poke treat as well. Maybe post over on health and see what other folks use for treats, I'm sure you'll come up with something that will work for both you and Mr. H.

I really need to come up with a set feeding schedule - AND stick to it. That would level out his bg.

I believe it goes a long way in helping level BG out. Once you sort it out and Harley gets in the groove I think you will both be happier

I have some sort of stupid computer problem and cannot get into ss. So...+7 344, PMPS314. Shot 3.75. Appetite is good and I will try to get a good routine down for eating. Problem is when mom is home...he cries and I feed. I am trained so well by him.

Like last week, Harley is falling like a rock (I think it is too fast). Tonight I did give a snack of MC (10% carb) food. That is MC right? HC is over 18% (I think). I want to make him stabilize at the 100 mark or so. Does that make sense or am I off a bit here?

I always considered over 18% HC. The few times I felt I needed MC, I would take 1tsp. LC and mix it with 1tsp. HC - -that was our MC (I was always consistent). What you are trying to do makes sense. .You know when it's looking like Harley is going to dive fast and low.

How much MC did you give him and at was it at +3.5? Have you tested since?

Well, the MC didn't work too well. He has fallen to 30/+6.5. I did give some HC and he is now 41/+6.75. Will test again and see where we are.
