Dang it! Dang it! Dang it!!! ohmygod_smile Yep...I furshotted Cobb this morning. No idea how much he got. I think the needle went in and out so hopefully he got some. I guess it isn't a horrible thing. His Lantus depot will be depleting later this week when I switch to the Lev. I think I have one or two days left of the Lantus...maybe mid-week. And I can offset the higher numbers with the R. I just hate it because he does so well (like yesterday all in normal numbers), and then I go screw it up. :-x :-x :-x :-x

So I'm expecting higher numbers. If not tonight, at least tomorrow morning. grr_red

Anyway, I hope everyone has a nice start to the week! Vines and prayers to all who need them.

Cats like to be unpredictable, so maybe he will surprise you. ;-)

Re: 8/4 Cobb AMPS 220 FUR SHOT

the thing about a big dose is that sometimes you can miss a shot and the depot means that it's barely a blip in numbers. i hope Cobb just coasts along for you today.

so you did decide to switch? fingers crossed that Cobb takes to the Lev like a ducky to water. Or like Ozy to Lev, which was pretty great! :-D

Booo Cobb. grr_red Matt just checked and Cobb has decided to visit the upper floors today.

Yes, I have decided to switch. The vet called in the prescription late last week. And I also managed to find some Lev on Craigslist that someone is mailing to me. It should be here today. The Lantus that I have is probably about 6 months old, so I'm wondering if I should use the rest of it up or just bite the bullet and switch. It was Tommy's old vial (thanks Lauren!).

Re: 8/4 Cobb AMPS 220 FUR SHOT +5.5 401(3.5uR)

if it hasn't been in use for the entire 6 months, and knowing Tommy & Cobb's size of doses, i'm sure it hasn't, i'd assume the Lantus was fine. But you never know. And since they are two different insulins, it's not like you can try out the new stuff and see if his numbers change, indicating the old vial was toast, then go back.

i don't know the best course on that - i guess it's dependent on whether or not you want to "waste" some Lantus and switch sooner to the Lev.

aren't you glad you have R in the toolbox?!

Re: 8/4 Cobb AMPS 220 FUR SHOT +5.5 401(3.5uR)

So, something I was wondering this morning. No idea if it has ever been done.

But I know that we'll have to give the Levemir depot time to build. Has anyone ever used both at the same time?

For example...Cobb's dose right now 31units. My starting dose of Lev is going to be 20-21units. I may start on the round number first, to appease my OCD. I was thinking this morning...just so it isn't a shock to the system of that Lantus depot draining, what if I gave -- hypothetically -- 15 units of Lantus and 5 of Lev. And then adjusted from there until I hit the 20 units of Lev. That way the Lantus depot drains slowly instead of just going kaput.

I don't know...that could be incredibly dangerous and irresponsible. Just what I felt was a logical way of switching instead of cold turkey.

Oh of I had a dollar for every fur shot. . . .
No worries with R in the fridge.

Regarding the remaining Lantus, if it is still good - 'waste not want not'

Re: 8/4 Cobb AMPS 220 FUR SHOT +5.5 401(3.5uR)

i wouldn't combine them like that, suzanne.

give 31u lantus at one shot and 21u (nicely matched!) Lev at the next shot.

another thought on the lantus - he's had several great cycles with no R needed recently. that tells you this lantus is still working fine.

Re: 8/4 Cobb AMPS 220 FUR SHOT +5.5 401(3.5uR)

Sorry about that fur shot. If I had a dollar for every one I did....

I agree with Julie on not mixing the insulins. The OCD within you will have a hard enough time when you switch to Levemir. Now you'll have to figure out when his onset and nadir are and what his patterns looks like on the new insulin. I speak from experience - the orderly project manager within me hated going back to the beginning again. If you have two insulins going, you won't be able to determine what is the Lantus action and what is the one from Lev. As it is, for the first few days the Levemir depot will be building while the Lantus one depletes.

Interesting, it seems the beans who like things wrapped up nice & tidy (myself included) end up with some of the most baffling kitties - kitties that keep us on our toes. Kitties that teach us that sometimes you have to just go with the flow.

With all I had going on the past 4 or so years, something had to give. So, in order to survive w/o losing my mind I adapted the following Erma Bombeck philosophy-

'Unless it's on fire or blocking the fridge, it can wait"

Well one can only do that for so long. Now that I am no longer working, I've been thinking of hiring a cleaning service to do a 'spring cleaning' to get everything to a point that I am happy with and can maintain on my own. I envision one like Granny (of the Beverly Hillbillies) did - dragging every last bit of furniture out onto the front lawn in order to get the house spic and span clean.
I always read things posted on the grocery store bulletin board and I saw a business card for a local cleaning service - the name was 'OCD Cleaning"
I liked the sound of that. . . .

I LOVE the name of that. Honestly, I feel like if I could have a cleaning service come in once and do a big, deep clean, I could maintain it after that -- especially with the cleaning moods I've found myself in lately. I assure you, Matt does not mind that in the least! I'll tell him I'm feeling "cleany," and he grabs Matty and says, "c'mon, let's leave Mama alone. She's in a cleaning mood!"   Lately the kitchen floors have really been bothering me, probably because I CAN'T keep them clean! I get them swept and swiffered, and then I find a cheerio or a blueberry on the floor. I wonder who could have thrown them!!

yikes cobb! what a drama boy!

and to think i was suggesting you might not even notice the fur shot . . . .

interesting - i would describe myself as leaning towards the OCD end of things. not completely, but i have an unnatural love of things being organized! my girls have given me grief because if i'm in a store looking at clothes, i'll put the random ones back into the right spot. free labor! and yes, my closet is organized by color - OF COURSE! How did all of us end up with cats that are the most difficult to get regulated!?!
