Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

I'm so glad you found a better vet.
I can read the relief from you in your condo.
Sending perfect procedure vines to Jupiter.

I'm glad you are finally getting the bupe for him, and I hope they can provide a better cone so he can't get at the bandage. Did you ask them about what to do if he pees on the bandage?

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

That is a nasty would. Had something similar on the top of my horse's foot a few summers ago. Had Al to the same thing rewraping every week with recheck by the vet every other week and staying ahead of proud flesh(granulation). I didn't realize that happened in cats! Extemely common in horses.

I think I'd rather wrap a horse than a cat though. :-)

I keep Vetericyn on hand for wounds. Kills almost everything but is non stinging non, ph appropriate so promotes healing. Safe for horses, dogs, and cats.... And though not for human use I have used it myself

So glad you have found a good vet! Will be checking back to see how things went.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Oh, this vet sounds wonderful, and although I know you are still very worried, you also sound very relieved. Prayers continue!!!!

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Oh Jamie !! You have been up the mountain and back with Jupe...your dedication is amazing...such a lucky kitty to have you and Dane as beans.

Sending you and Jupe vines, prayers, blessings, and everything other possible feeling there is out there!! This new vet sounds really good...and I'm so glad you went.

Sadly, your other vet was not as attentive...if you keep this new vet, I'd make it a point to get all Jupes records transferred AND make sure the old vet is aware of it and why. But that's me :-D I don't take lightly to a vet or doc with a poor bedside manner.

More and more prayers vines and blessings for you guys and lots and lots of hugs and scritchies from Poe cat_pet_icon

I think that these are two excellent points by Dyana. Please make sure that you have a proper size cone to stop him from chewing on the bandage. It sounds like it is going to be critical to keep the bandage intact.

I am so happy that the vet seems to be on top of the situation and communicated properly with you. I hope that the procedure goes well this evening, and that things are going to be looking up for you and Jupiter.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

jamie and Dane
I am so glad you finally went to someone else. personally,i was not very pleased with how your vet was treating you guys. this new vet sounds like a keeper and use your other vet for unimportant things.

that is a nice hole in the would and I can understand how they are treating it. has to heal from inside out otherwise there is a nice pocket formed when stitched for infection to brew. so they are treating it as an open wound.

let's hope this does the job and remember, worse thing you mentioned is amputation and cats do very well with 3 legs. so if it ever has to come to that, do not let it upset you. let;s get through this and keep positive thoughts for the 12th

huge hugs to you guys.... awesome job.... so glad this vet gave you bupe. jupe should have been on this from the get go. you will see the dose they are giving so if you feel he is still uncomfortable ( remember, cats hide pain very well), you can dip into your stash. just ask vet how much he is giving.

you guys are in my pryers daily

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

I'm so glad the new vet is willing to do something. Sending prayers all goes well with the procedure today.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

I was going to try to nap while Jupiter is at the vets. Fell asleep for about 20 mins and woke up feeling really worried about Jupe. Cant sleep. Just waiting for my phone to ring and hear an update.

thank you all so much for the visits, support, vines, and prayers!

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Sending prayers and good surgery vines for Jupiter.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Jamie,

When you pick him up - ask the vet what you should do about litter - whether or not you should have litter in his box or ripped up newspaper or what. I'm just thinking litter pieces could get under the bandage and in the wound and cause problems.

And be sure to tell him about the trouble you had with the previous bandages with jupe ripping them apart - what ideas does he have to help with that problem.

I'm so glad to read that you found a more responsive and thorough vet! Yippee. Now, sending good vines that he can save Jupe's leg! I shudder to think what could have happened to his leg had you not gone somewhere else!

Never doubt yourself again! If you think something isn't right and aren't getting your questions answered, feeling rushed by someone and feeling that they aren't communicating clearly and being thorough - you are probably right and glad you found someone new.

Maybe when this is all over, you can go back to the other vet with your records from this one and say, see, you didn't do your job!

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

I was getting really worried since we have to leave in a couple minutes to go pick Jupiter up (since it takes 40 mins to get there) and I had not heard anything yet. Called them and the vet tech said she would go check. She said they are just finishing up now, and putting the bandage on. She said it should still be okay to pick him up at 7 (which is 50 mins from now) so we are getting ready to leave to go get him.

Will post another update when we get home

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Finally I'm so glad you went there, I know that's not what you wanted to hear that he has to go under the knife again. But Ya Hoo,I'm sure you will feel more at ease knowing that Jupe will be better cared for.Can they do a Lazer heal on this? I know they are trying this now to hear faster. Sending Healing vines to you and Dane and of course Jupe.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

it sounds like they laser might be out for this...usually, when they're treating as an open wound, they do what's called "wet to dry" bandages....gauze is soaked in saline solution(or medicated solution), packed into the wound and then covered. They make sure the gauze is wet so it doesn't stick into the wound, and leave it for 24-48 hours and then replace the whole thing. It gives the tissue inside time to regenerate and grow back "from the inside out". That way they can make sure the wound is fully "filled in" with good tissue, while protecting it from infection.

I think laser therapy is usually used to just promote healing in smaller incisions..this has gone too far for it to work. She did say this new vet said bandage changes every other day for awhile, so it sounds like the wet to dry might be what they're doing.

Just hope that by getting rid of some of that granulating tissue and back to "clean edges", they'll be able to completely heal it!!

Glad to hear they're going to send him home tonight Jamie!! Extra chin scritches and head kisses tonight!

Oh Good can't wait to hear, give hugs for us

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Oh wow on the update on the new vet! Definitely a keeper! Did you tell him what you were going through w/ the old vet? I know it's further away, but I hope you can stay w/ this vet!

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Jamie, we are relieved that the new vet seems to know what is happening with Jupe's wound. Many prayers that the procedure will work and that Jupe will tolerate it and the bandaging, etc. We are glad that Bupe is prescribed. That will make him much more comfortable.
Sending lots of vines and wishes that all will go well.
Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Jamie, I'm so very glad you found this new vet...He sounds wonderful, as does the vet tech.

One of my prayers for Jupiter was that he would be given good pain relief! So thankful that prayer was answered.

Try to get some good sleep tonight, you need to be fresh to take care of your baby tomorrow.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Hi Jamie,

I'm so glad you were able to get Jupiter to another vet - the wound looked terrible, and cheers to you convincing them to see you today! I'm glad they're going to do the surgery, even though it will be rough for poor Jupiter - it needs to be done so he can get on the healing path asap.

Yea! They are going to give you Bupe to take home!!!

Your courage and strength and love will get you all through this - Sending you ALL healing vines!!!

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

I'm joining the chorus. I am SO glad you found a new vet. Like Dian, I was not happy with the way you and Jupiter were being treated.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

I was just checking in to see if you were back yet with Jupe and how he's doing. I"m so glad you found this vet and that he is treating this aggressively. I'm also happy he gave you the bupe. He sounds like a keeper.

Healing vines for Jupe as well as no pain vines and sleeping vines for you, Jamie. I worry about you not resting.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Jamie, I'm so excited that this vet and his/her techs were so good to you all. Sounds like Jupiter was/is in good hands...good and knowledgeable. Sorry to hear it's such a drive to and from the vet's office, but it sounds like it is worth it. Sending lots healing vines and comfort vines to Jupiter, you and DH. ((hugs))

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Just lookin' in on you to see if there's any new word......

You're in all our thoughts - more healing vines for Jupiter & everyone. I hope he's on a cloud of bliss with the Bupe - asleep & purring away & NOT feeling any pain, poor thing. I can't believe the other vet wouldn't give him pain medication for all he's been through. But - that's all over with now, he's in good hands.

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Jamie,
GREAT new! Wonderful!!!
I'm so glad Jupiter now has a proper vet, and you both are being treated well!
So happy today's surgery went well, and he is back home!
Sending lots of vines!!!

Re: 8/4 & 8/5 Jupiter- PICS of wound - vet UPDATE - procedur

Thank you Linda for the suggestion. We actually got him a cone yesterday that fits him very nicely!

And yes this vet is totally worth the drive!
