Good morning LL!

Happy furry purry this morning with all 5 p's present. Some nice greens last night even with the decrease. We have an appt with the internist today at noon. They are going to run some more tests but I forget what. :roll: I was in a little shock the last time we were there and wasn't thinking clearly or taking notes.

Sienne - I know. Tarragon forgot to get the memo that pred is suppose to raise the BG's thankfully.

Melissa, many good thoughts for today's visit with the Internist. I'm glad Tarragon is feeling good. I know it's easy to forget when getting news that is hard to absorb, let alone the diagnosis. It's almost like we need a second person there with us to take notes. Check with you later after the visit. Hugs to you both.

Aww, sorry about the HCM diagnosis. Tarragon is fortunate that he lives with such a caring and involved mommy who will do everything to help him live long and prosper. Seriously... you (and all FDMB members) are such pro-active parents when it comes to helping their kitties. Getting lots of information and finding the best treatment options will really help Tarragon and you are already on your way there.

These big kitties do have a tendency for HCM. Not all HCM diagnoses are the same so your specialist should help you go in the right direction. I am familiar with the version that happens when a kitten developes it (around 2 yrs. old.) There is now a test for this type and in time responsible breeders will not be passing the defective gene along to new generations.

But even as Maine Coons are tested clear, they still could develop a different type of HCM in their later years. BigMac had a mild case and we tested him periodically. His heart changed very slightly so we did not need to treat him. (He had other issues that caused his death.)

I hope Tarragon's case is also mild and it will not affect him very much. (((((Melissa))))))

I see Tarragon didn't get the memo about vetty visits raising BG numbers! Very nice PMPS. I hope things went well today.

When we were at CSU, DH used a recording application he has on his IPad so we could record what the vet said. Then promptly forgot to turn in on when we talked to the radiation oncologist who talked a mile a minute. At least I've got the conversation from the IM vet recorded.

Nice green tonight! :mrgreen: :mrgreen: The visit with the internist and cardiologist went well. We want over all the measurements from the echo and watched the blood flow. Tarragon's HCM is not very advanced. Great news! They made sure to tell me that 95% of the time HCM is diagnosed in Maine Coons postmortem. They were extremely complimentary that I had requested the test and surprised that I am just an accountant and have had no medical training. :lol:

Tarragon's HCM isn't as bad as thought at first once they took all the measurements. He is going to be on Diltiazim - 2.5mg three times a day. They did another xray today and the Lasix did the trick on his fluid so that is now as needed. 

His asthma meds need to be changed We are starting him on theophylline which is a bronchodilator - 50 mg twice a day. This can hopefully replace the prednisolone eventually. No more albuterol. 

Tarragon was a model patient as always. Happy furry purry tonight. Charlie has helped a lot with the vetty smell.

This is a good report and from his numbers, it looks like T. agrees! How nice that Charlie is working on removal of the vetty smell. He can be an honorary member of the KTSS!

That's great news about Tarragon. It sounds like you're got a good team watching over his care -- and you're a critical member of that team.

Melissa, it's so good to hear that Tarragon's condition is not as bad as you thought it would be. Now you can breathe and try to relax a little. And great on the Lasix working on the lung fluid :smile:

aw, punkin and i are sending lots of TLC to our buddy tarragon! i'm glad to hear the vet visit went well and it's mild. that's the best news! sounds like it won't mean much to his quality of life and that's very good news. i agree with sienne, you're not "just" an accountant but a FACE: Feline Advocate and Caregiver Extraordinaire! :-D ;-)

I read Julie's post and thought, "Wow, the diagnosis will improve his quality of life." Getting him on the right meds could make a world of difference for Mr. T. FACE - :lol: :lol: Absolutely. :-D :-D
