8/31 Lion - frustrating to wait

  • Making back-to-back changes in doses can result in wonky numbers. Lantus likes consistency. Unlike the shorter acting insulins, the depot has an effect on the current and subsequent doses. Every time you make a change in dose, it has a ripple effect on the depot. The more changes, the more ripples. It's why doses are held for several days. It allows the depot to stabilize.
Probably the hardest part of understanding Lantus is how the depot works. You'll get it figured out!

Ugh. This is so frustrating and I feel so bad for Lion. Its my fault I originally went too high too fast. Now that I can see his numbers on an hourly basis I want to do something to help him.

I understand everyone has (correctly) told me to hold for 3 to 5 days. I will hold at 1.50. But this is difficult!

Welcome to LLB. Your signature says SLGS. If you use that method you adjust the dose every 7 days after doing a curve. Since the dose is based upon nadir, lowest point in the cycle, try not to get upset with the highs in between. You have already seen lots of blue and green and will once again. If you have decided to follow TR please change your signature. Let us know how we can help you. Ask questions when you have them which you will. There’s a lot to learn.

Thank you! I did (sort of) follow SLGS moving him up every 7 days or so. I wasn't not testing lows and when we got to 2.25 his numbers went nuts and I wasn't able to shoot at night. That's when I put the FreeStyle Libre on him. It's a bit frustrating because I believe his correct dose was 1.75 or 2.00, but now I need to get him back to stable.

After all all the up and down in dosing in the last few days, it will take 6 cycles for the 1.5U depot to build and for you to be able to see what it can do for his numbers.

Thank you Bhooma. I think I just need someone to tell me that today. : ) I was thinking its sort of like antibiotics. I don't expect them to work on Day 1 for me.

One of our sayings around here is that Lantus teaches patience. It wasn’t my strong suit, I was a difficult student. :p We all want to help our fur babies as quickly as we can. Unfortunately, some things cannot be rushed.

Yup, I am not a patient person!

Thank you everyone for your support through this!
