Re: 8/31 ELIAN - amps 80; pmps 83 OTJ trial starts in the am
Woo hoo! Actually videod what I hope will be his last shot - and of course he cooperated as usual and I screwed up his 'stick' and he flinched. Oh well - who cares - IT'S OTJ TRIAL TIME starting first thing in the am. Woo hoo!!!
Can't wait for the rhymes although I'm not sure there's much that rhymes with Elian other than really on!
Re: 8/31 ELIAN - amps 80; pmps 83 OTJ trial starts in the am
Just to make it official, here are the OTJ instructions.
Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
If your cat is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
After 2 weeks, if everything is looking good, we have a party!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
Congrats, Susie. I couldn't be more excited for you and Elian!! Good luck with the trial.

Thanks for the support everybody and thank you Sienne for the official 'welcome'! I took a picture and saved it on my phone so I can refer to it. I know he may have to go back on but I'm going to think positive for now! I can't thank all of you enough for getting us to this point - hard to believe we're here after where we were not long ago.
Re: 8/31 ELIAN - amps 80; pmps 83 OTJ trial starts in the am
Thanks everybody - I'm pretty thrilled, too. My daughters and I feel like he just graduated from school or something - it's a new phase in our lives! Sounds crazy, I know, but his diagnosis and having to schedule my days around his schedule really is life altering - and it could be a big change once again - for the better but still a change, if that makes any sense!!!
