Yesterday's Condo

ARGHHHHH!!! If it weren't for the fact that Mark feels terrible about it, I'd be sooo mad that he gave a furshot this morning! Way to kill the momentum. No doubt about it - Cinco reeks of Lantus.   cat(2)_steam Poor guy - he overslept and was an hour and a half late giving the shot, and he said he realized after he shot that he went all the way through.  Sooo, back to the drawing board tonight. At least we can shoot at the normal time. The only question is how high will he go?

Cinco's appy is not great this morning. He only ate about 1/3 of his first breakfast and required a lot of encouragement to eat the second one. He was not interested in a snack at his +5 test. Guess he doesn't like missing his shot. The other kitties, however, were more than willing to clean up the leftovers.

After lots of discussion and thought, we have made the decision to go ahead with the chemo for Sasha. We've come too far to stop now, and we want to give her the best possible shot at a longer, healthier life. I'll call first thing Tuesday morning and set the appointment. I'm going to e-mail the oncologist, Dr. S. with some more questions we have about it and hope she gets back to me before our actual appointment.

Thanks so much for all the input. We couldn't have gotten through the past few months without the wonderful support of our Lantus Land family, and we know we have you behind us as we move forward, with both our special kitties.

Sending healing vines to all in need, and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: We're thinking of Ellie as she mourns her 20 year old civvie that crossed yesterday, even as she struggles with Charlie's DKA. Continued prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, and Elise's DM.

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

Well, drat on that fur shot. :-x :-x Mega, mega vines for Sasha's chemo. I don't know how we would manage Zener's health issues without LL either. It's an amazing place. :-D Hugs to you, Tricia.

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

You are doing what I think I already mentioned I would do. It's also what my friend did after her cat had successful surgery to have a mass on lung removed. In her case the chemo went really well and she knows she has done everything possible. She decided that like you if it made her cat too sick she could always stop it and wouldn't be any worse for having tried. She only need about half a dozen treatments every two weeks. When we treated Tiffany for intermediate cell lymphoma she didn't have too many side effects from the chemo either. Do you know what Sasha's would entail? Dr. J. has been off list except once since I posed the question and my question was burried by then.

This fur shot will pass quickly I bet. :YMHUG: Thanks for the prayers for my Mom and cheering on Mr. Max. So appreciated. I'm heading over there now. Have a great day.

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

Bummer on the fur shot. Cinco did have a great night last night. But he's doing well and will get back on track and at least you can get back on schedule. Sending you appy vines - the civie here is also predatory on the leftovers.

Good luck with the Sasha chemo and getting the answers you need from the oncologist. Paws crossed for smooth sailing for Sasha with few side effects.

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

Phooey on the Phurshot!! But hey, at least you know why Cinco's numbers are higher than normal!

Considering he was in the lagoon last night, I'm sure he'll get back on track soon.

I'm sure you're happy to have finally just made a decision on Sasha.....it's so hard when we just don't know what's going to be best for them, but I agree with your decision too. Give her the best chance you can. If her QOL is affected really negatively by the chemo, you can always stop it, but we won't think that way.

Sasha will do GREAT! She won't have any problems with the chemo and it'll kick any last remaining cancer cells butt! That's how we'll think!

Looks like Cinco and China are going to hang out on the yellow floor together today

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

Well, shoot on the fur shoot. My DH is the same way. He feels SO BAD if he thinks he screwed something up. It's hard not to be annoyed when a mess up comes along when there is some real momentum going, but like you, I step back and remember try to remember how much easier this process is with the help of someone else to do shooting, testing, etc. Appy vines and back on track vines on the way for Cinco!

Sending major vines for you and Sasha as you proceed with chemo. :YMHUG: I hope that you can feel a sense of calm having reached a decision. I tend to be a waffler and have a hard time making big decisions. It always seems a little better when I finally make a decision so I can focus on the next steps.

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

Well durn that FS but you know it happens to everyone. I bet he will get right back on track. I hope he's decided to eat.

I'm sure it was a hard decision and we will keep Sasha in our prayers that she will greatly benefit from every treatment. you and Mark are great parents to those babies!!!

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

Sorry about the fur shot. I hope Cinco gets back on track quickly. I know you didn't make the decision for Sasha lightly. Sending prayers that everything goes well with her chemo. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 8/31 Cinco AMPS 197 +2.5 242 +5 289 Sasha Decision

your rationale for going ahead with Sasha is much of what I thought about punkin. I wanted to give him the best chance - both because i wanted him to do well and because i didn't want to feel guilty after the fact that i hadn't done everything i could do. You have to trust your decision - it's made in love.

Cinco will get back on track before too long. :YMHUG:

Re: 8/31 Cinco PMPS 314 Sasha Decision

Hi Tricia,
Sorry about the furshot, but everyone does that and Cinco will get back on track soon!
Sending many appy vines to him. I hope he's eating better this evening.

Sending tons of prayers for Sasha's chemo treatments.

Re: 8/31 Cinco PMPS 314 Sasha Decision

Fur shots stink! Sorry. But it happens. Cinco will get back on track.

Like many others, I, too, think your decision to go ahead with chemo is the right decision for you and Sasha. We all have to do what is best for us and what is best for our cats. For you and Sasha, that's chemo. No regrets. Tons of vines and light for you all.

Re: 8/31 Cinco PMPS 314 Sasha Decision

Hi Trisha,
I'm glad that you have come to the decision to go ahead with Sasha's chemo. And I hope that it will be successful. Lots of vines on the way!

Cinco, you can come right back from a fur shot. No problem!

Have a good night, guys,

Ella & Rusty

Thanks for all the visits and reinforcement, Liz, Elise, Wendy, Chris, Jen, Marje, Carla, Julie, Marilyn and Ella. Mariko, it's wonderful to hear from you ! It was not an easy decision, that's for sure.

No fur shot tonight! :-D Cinco did eat his first dinner very well, as well as the second meal with his +3. I'll offer him more at his +5. That was quite a drop. I hope he won't end up bouncing because of it.

Jen, I waffled a lot at first, but somehow, the fact that my DH seemed to be thinking about not doing it spurred me to think more about going ahead. I'm not generally a contrary person, but it just made me think more. His hang up was not getting an actual figure on the benefit of doing chemo versus not. I don't know how he got past that, but last night as we were driving home from Sacramento, we talked about it, and he talked himself into going ahead! I hardly had to say anything! Works for me. :-D  I do feel much better now that the decision is made and am anxious to get going.

Chris, I'm going with your positive thinking all the way. Her radiation therapy went so well, I just know chemo will, too. Right? nailbite_smile I see China decided she had enough of the yellow floor. Cinco just sailed right through it, and now I know it was because China had already moved on!

Elise, they will do a treatment every three weeks for a total of four treatments. The only sided effect I'm really worried about is that her whiskers will probably fall out What does a cat without whiskers do? I can just see her getting stuck places because she can't tell if she'll fit!

Hugs back to all of you. :YMHUG:

Yay for no furshot and a better appy in the evening!!

Sending tons of prayers for Sasha's chemo...we would have made the same choice, too. She's such a little fighter, I'm sure she will have no problem at all with it!
