i just got home from work so i can get a plus 6 today. God i hope he's just bouncing from some good low numbers. yikes!!!
still negative on ketones. eating the same small amount of wet food. waiting for the zero carb young again to come in.
upped his dose to 2 units. can't wait to see the plus 6. i hope it's not too terrible. ughhhhh

his plus 6 is 412. ickkkk i will also get a plus 8 and 9 today. what the heck is going on? trying not to stress but i am seriously thinking about Levimir. what did you folks say is the best research i can print out to educate my vet. he is very good but has zero experience with Levimir so i'm going to have to teach him. i'm not throwing in the lantus towel yet but i want to be ready.

thanks

If you have a chance, see if the Lantus is wearing off faster by checking at +9, +10, +11. If you can identify when he starts to rise on a predictable basis, you may consider either switching to Levemir which often lasts a bit longer than Lantus in cats, or using a tiny dose of supplemental, short-acting insulin.

If +6 was his nadir, that at least looks like a decent drop, given his starting number. I don't think you should give up on Lantus, though, until you either get Tibbs off dry entirely or at least on the Forever Young. The carbs are screwing his BG up no matter what insulin you're sticking in him.

C'mon, Tibbsey, give your mama some nice numbers!

Re: 8/30 Tibbs amps 522 +6 412 +9 366 ughhh what's going

thanks Amy. well his +9 was 366 so he's still dropping. maybe his nadir is not between +5 and +7
he is still dropping at +9. i have to do a real curve soon but yes i'm not ready to give up on lantus yet. i can't wait until the zero carb food comes.
thanks for the encouragement.

Ours cats are so silly! Why can't they have nadirs at +6 or +7 like all the other kitties?? cat(2)_steam

Re: 8/30 Tibbs amps 522 +6 412 +9 366 ughhh what's going

yes i see your kitty's nadir is after +9 too. i guess they have to be different. lol. they didn't read the manual ! :-D

Re: 8/30 Tibbs amps 522 +6 412 +9 366 ughhh what's going

oh honey, ok, , hang on here.. we are going to have to reevaluate what is going on here... first off, what is your schedule in the next day or two? I would love to see a complete curve on this cat.

Secondly, too much insulin often looks EXACTLY like not enough. I would love to see what happens if you cut the insulin way back and reset.... he cant go much higher anyway, and what you are doing it not working.

Are you testing for ketones?

Re: 8/30 Tibbs amps 522 +6 412 +9 366 ughhh what's going

yes. ketones have always been negative. i started him st .5 and have worked up from there. he is still getting a small bit of dry. trying to transition him to all wet. so you think i should cut back and start over?
