Heather and Raja (GA)

Unfortunately we are back, Raja was diagnosed in March of 08 and thanks to the FDMB and all the wonderful people she went into remission 6 weeks later. Raja got sick earlier this month and now her BG is sky high along with her losing weight and drinking and peeing a lot more than usual
Let me start at the beginning and then I'll ask a few questions.
July 31 at 1030 pm Raja was not acting herself, she hadn't eaten anything and she was just laying around. I knew something was wrong so we took her to the emergency vet who ran blood tests. Her BG was in the 200 range and her pancreas and liver values were sky high. I do have the records just not on me at the moment, I will update it when I get home. He gave her fluids and an antibiotic shot and told us to follow up with the vet two days later if she wasn't better. We got home at 430am and poor Raja just curled up next to me and slept till my alarm went off at 7am
2 days later I took her to my regular vet because Raja wasn't getting any better. She refused to eat, even her favorite tuna, and she wasn't moving from one particular spot in the living room
The vet gave me more fluids to give her every day along with a pill to help make her hungry and Reglan to help her from throwing up along with giving me prescription wet food to force feed her.
I brought her back the following Tuesday and they checked her pancreas and liver values and they were in the normal range and she was eating and drinking normally. They suggested because it seemed like such a bad infection that we should keep up with the antibiotic shot for a few more weeks to make sure to get every last bit of the infection.
Two weeks from the first shot she got a second one and then the third this Saturday.
I noticed Friday she was drinking a lot more than normal and so after the vet visit on Saturday where it showed she lost weight I checked her blood sugar and it was in the high 500s and any other time I checked it it was in the high 400s to high 500s
The vet called me in a script for lantus and she wants me to start her at 1 unit twice a day. Raja now weights 8 lbs 13 oz. My dad has the lantus pen and he is giving me his used one tonight, he thinks there is about 80 units still left in it
Now on to my questions:
Is it ok to use my dad's pen? He couldn't have opened it all that long ago. He uses the needle that comes with it so can I still use the 'normal needles' with it? I MIGHT be able to talk him into giving me a new pen I'm just not sure
Is 1 unit twice a day ok for her weight? 8lbs 13 oz
I am picking up the pen tonight so should I start the insulin tonight or wait till this weekend when I have a 3 day weekend? I leave at 730 every morning and don't get home until 630 every night so if I start the insulin tonight I wont be around to observe her tomorrow.
Let me start at the beginning and then I'll ask a few questions.
