Clare woke us up with a good appetite this morning. Coral, her buddy, ate a mouse yesterday and didn't feel too good afterward, but she's eating now. Let's hope today is smoother sailing for everyone. Today's the day to clear the bounce, Clarie!

Have a good long weekend!

It looks like Clare is definitely in bounce-clearing mode today. Now is the time to get on the surfboard, Clare!

Have a great day, Georgette!

That is an awful big dive...if I did my math right...... 273-81= 192/3.25, is about a 60 mg/dL drop per hour....which is pretty significant.

Have you given Clare anything else to eat? I would test her at +3.75 to see where she is headed....and maybe consider giving a couple teaspoons of LC food to try and help her surf on the numbers she has......I am leaving in about 40 minutes for a doctor's appointment, but wanted to leave a note....hopefully some other more experienced members will be around soon as well :)

Clarebear.....remember sweet kitty, you have a WHOLE TWELVE HOURS in your cycle...it is not necessary to do all the diving right in the beginning :-D

Thanks for your visit and encouragement, Shelly and Molly!

Molly, Yes, because she's had this dropping-fast-and-then-bouncing pattern for awhile now, we've been making sure (either by free-feeding or by giving her special treats and snacks, or both) that Clare has food at the beginning of each cycle, over the first few hours. We usually stop feeding her and take the food up after about +8. She does seem to be able to surf for awhile before the bounce starts.

She's still underweight -- she's never been overweight -- so we try to make sure she has food when she wants it, and when it doesn't affect the PS tests. We've pretty much stopped giving her HC, since her lows haven't been down to the 40's for some time and it seemed like (at least at the beginning) it was making her bounces more exaggerated.

I'm not sure if there's a way to get her out of this pattern, or do we just wait until her liver decides to take a break? One of the interesting things that might be relevant is that when Clare was diagnosed, she had an x-ray and they found that her liver was enlarged. It looked fine, the lobes were smooth; her liver enzymes were fine. Her liver was just bigger than normal.

Do you think that might mean that her liver had been working for awhile to keep her "safe" from low BG numbers?

Just wondering ;-)

Can't answer any questions. But can send some "hang-10 and surf awhile" wishes for Clare.

i also am not familiar with an enlarged liver . . . but it looks like she's surfing now! keep it up, clare!

the more she is in green numbers, the more her body will accept them as normal again. then the bouncing *should* diminish or end. That's if Clare read the manual, of course. ;-)
