See yesterday's condo for vet's comments.
I gave him about 2.35ish today, not 100% sure, just went to 2.5 and twisted a drop out.

Ok Cedric, come on down with Snoball and Lucian and play in the water and grass today. bcatrun_gif

I read what your vet said yesterday.

Lucian is almost always lower in the AM too, but it can't be due to lack of PM food, he eats 24/7. He wakes me 2-3 times a night to eat. He eats about every 4-5 hrs, round the clock. I think some cats are just lower at certain times.

As a human, they test fasting BG. If a cat doesn't eat all night, he should be lower in the morning, you'd think. But MY BG is always lower at night, after eating all day. It's higher in the morning. I have no clue why.

But I still have doubts about the 2 big meals a day thing, just because I'm diabetic and that goes against everything I've learned from my DR and my own research. Which is why I was so curious about the reason your vet was recommending the 2 meals.

Whatever works for Cedric is a good thing. :thumbup

Deb,

I also feed twice a day for my diabetic cats (5 of them). They don't always finish their food immediately. So, there is some grazing going on here.

A higher morning BG in humans is usually due to the "dawn phenomenon." I can't figure out why Cedric goes up at night. At first, I thought the Lantus wasn't lasting a full 12 hours. So, Jesse switched him to Levemir which tends to last longer. Apparently, it isn't the answer to Cedric's high PMPS.

Call me "Just Puzzled."

 I hear ya Claudia, I stay puzzled! :-D

Mine rarely finish theirs either, but refuse to eat the leftovers! :o

I think the reason Lucian eats every few hours, is cause he spent over 14 yrs always having a full bowl of dry and could eat whenever he wanted to. He's more of a nibbler, at the very most he'll eat 1/4 can of Friskee's and that's rare. It's usually between 1/8-1/4 can. More often, 1/8.

I'm just really curious about the large meal thing, because it's the exact opposite from recommendations to diabetic humans. Obviously cats and humans are different, I just wanted to know the 'why'. What is different? I'm curious like that. I like to learn stuff. :-D

He does seem to be doing better on the Lev this go around. It is possible some of the recent highs are left over adjustments from his "illness." And that week where he went low twice. I decided to just give him 2.5 units tonight and see what happens over the weekend. I think I am going to go to the space center tomorrow first thing in the am before it gets too hot. I am just going to see the atlantis exhibit anyway. I'd like to stop by the astronat hall of fame on the way home, since my AP gets me in there as well - until it expires on Tuesday!
