Good morning, so here we go again. Poor Max. This can’t be good for him. Seeing the vet tomorrow. Last day of subQ fluids. He finally had a very hard BM. This extreme hyperglycemia really pulls the water from his system so I’m worried about what’s going to happen without the extra fluids. The dehydration has happened twice in the past month. Trying everything I know to get fluids into him, but he urinates so much he can’t utilize it. So worried about my boy. Praying for better days soon. :(

You're doing such a great job with Max, Lori. Maybe the vet will suggest continuing with subQ fluids, seeing as nothing has really changed since he was last there from the sounds of things? It sounds like he could still use the support. Sending many vetty vines for tomorrow's appointment.

Thank you. I really needed to hear that today.:cat:

Looks like a bounce today. With that low 300's this morning, I wonder if he touched yellows overnight? That would be progress. :) The one good thing about bouncing, you can probably ease off the pokes until later, maybe +9 or +10 today. Vet visits can also contribute to stress and higher numbers. Though some cats like to be different (like mine did) and go lower.

Absolutely ask the vet about the sub-q fluids. I think they will go along with it. I will be thinking of you and Max. I had been looking for an update from you and if you did one... I must have missed it.

How is he eating? How does he seem to you?

Whatever you do, don't let him get dehydrated and constipated... I guess he already has been consitipated... but be sure to keep on top of that. I don't see in your signature what you've been trying to keep his bowels moving... but I bet you've tried it all... Miralax?, pumpkin?, lactulose? inner leaf aloe vera? psyllium? etc. Anyway, good luck tomorrow! I bet you can't wait until you can increase his insulin again soon! Poor baby! I'm rooting for you and Max!

You are doing a great job trying to help your boy - just like Lyla said. I know this can't be easy for you and I pray the vet can help you tomorrow. It would be good if you could continue the subq fluids. His AMPS were great. You almost saw yellow. Hang in, Lori.

Well I’m glad at least it’s progress! I wondered if he got to yellow too. He does get extremely stressed at the vet and BG goes way up. I hate to take him but it’s a follow up from last week and I’m hoping they will let me continue his fluids, cerenia and gabapentin one more week. That seems to make him feel so much better. Thanks Wendy!

Eating well but not drinking any water. I add it to his food. Also give him pumpkin, and some egg yolk powder Marje told me about. Miralax and Metamucil didn’t do much for him. Thanks for your encouraging words.

I know about Miralax and Metamucil not doing anything. You should ask your vet about Lactulose (can be obtained compounded). Yes... egg yolk is supposed to be good for constipation. On the tanyackd support group, Ro recommends Preservative Free Inner Leaf Aloe Vera Juice (Lily of the Desert) "when all other stool softeners fail." Also, Cisapride (also available compounded from a vet pharmacy even though it's no longer available for humans) if the vet suspects a GI motility problem.

I'll pray for Max's vet visit tomorrow. Hang in there. We all care! I'm getting quite invested in Max's story!

Thanks for those great suggestions and for caring about my boy! Any suggestions, encouragement or advice and of course prayers, are always welcomed by Max and me. This group is the best!:cat::)

Sorry I missed you all today. I’m glad he had a little bit of poop.

We just need to keep plugging away at the dose increases as often as we safely can. After this next increase, if we don’t see some better numbers, we might want to give it only four cycles before we increase. Time will tell but let’s be hopeful he starts to see even more progress.
