Hi everyone! Yesterday

Good news besides Weeble being conscious this morning--one ear seems to have "learned to bleed". We'll see if it keeps up. She's fooled me before.

I'll be in and out with visitors in the afternoon. She tends to hide when people come by. Hopefully we won't see any nerve-wracking 40s.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140

nice AMPS. Make sure you leave food available to her if you're out, so she can feed her own curve. It's pretty cool when they learn to do that, so then you can leave with confidence (especially on such a tiny dose).

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) here we go again...

Gave her EVO & honey on her paw after the test. Waited around for her to clean her paw and finally stuck some in her mouth about 10 minutes ago. Going to wait a bit before testing again. Errands, etc. will have to wait I guess.

Funny you should mention that. The last battle with the wet food is getting her to go back to the bowl and graze on it like she does with the dry. I have to add more from the can and "freshen it up" every time I want her to eat more. It's not particularly practical. I've kind of been waiting to see if I get her off the juice or at least have her further away from these mid-to-low level greens for a more aggressive strategy in tricking her into grazing the wet on her own.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48)

Sigh. Maybe I didn't give her enough honey or the little ball fell out of her mouth or something. Bought a thing of Catsip and she just drank a bit.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) Thanks, Catsip

Whew. Ok. Running around like a madman now. Glad I don't have to pull her from under the bed to test while the guests are here. Finally going to clean the house a bit. Not too happy that the Catsip had to be employed on a day where she's only getting 2 doses of Cisapride but very happy she's at a normal number. Hopefully it won't be a problem.

I'll try to check in around +8 +9. And does this mean we're earning a dose reduction (pretty please)?

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) Thanks, Catsip

I have two trains of thought going on right now with regards to Weeble. I’ll share them with you and we can discuss.

1. When Lucy was on a tiny dose of insulin, she loved to surf low. I was fighting to keep her out of the 40’s and 50’s, but it finally occurred to me that the 50’s weren’t scary in themselves, what had always been scary about them was the potential that they would drop even lower. I started encouraging her to eat a little low carb food (not going straight to high carb) and testing to see if that kept her from dropping to scary levels (for me that was 30’s). It did. That amount of insulin should be small enough to be able to be overcome with low carb, but you would need to do some experimenting and testing to be sure that is true for your cat.

2. But, Weeble won’t reliably eat wet food. We don’t know if dry food is enough to keep her out of the 30’s, and we don’t really know if she felt low and went to eat some dry, whether that would bring her up quickly enough. The numbers from the last couple of cycles make me think that it might not.

Normally we wouldn’t start a trial with preshot numbers this high, but because she won’t let us use the tools we’re used to using to try to bring those numbers down, I think we have little choice but to try OTJ. It is too much of a struggle for you to bring up the low numbers. I have no doubt that if Weeble wasn’t eating dry, that she would be ready for OTJ. With the dry food, I don’t know, but we can try and see what happens. It’s up to you, what do you think? Let's talk about it.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

holy cow, what's in that stuff?

Ha! That made me laugh. She didn't even drink that much! It's lactose-free milk (with lactase enzyme). Glad to have that on hand now.

Anywho, on the strategery note--what say you to a skinny .1 or "some" insulin. I'm actually pretty sure I can pull it off. It sure is easier during the day, but with the help of the refrigerator light I'm confident I could make it happen.

Fine dosing is a pain in they eyeballs! @-) But it's worth it!

Helps to practice with some used syringes.
Fill it with plain old water or some sort of fruit juice.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

I'm totally open to an OTJ trial. I thought I detected some wistfulness in Libby's post--that it would be ideal to be able to stretch this miniscule dosing a bit longer. Basically I'm willing to do whatever I need to to give her the best chance at remission.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

it would be ideal to keep her on insulin for a bit longer, if you feel confident that you can control the numbers.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

So "some" insulin it is, then?

Oh, man. I just remembered I have the vet coming tomorrow who was always telling me to not test so much. She's actually great, I really like her, but I'm wondering about the kind of looks I'm going to get when I tell her I'm shooting at less than .1 unit at BG 60.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

it's up to you, and I would probably wait and see what the number is too.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

ha-ha!
Yea she will give you "the look"
Mine did when I showed her Luna's last spreadsheet - she couldn't figure out how the heck I measured a drop!
But she was quite impressed.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +2 (50) +3 (48) +4 (114) +6 (89)

Ok. Will post at +11 (1 hour).

I hope she's impressed. But I think it will be closer to wondering if I'm crazier than she initially believed me to be.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +3 (48) +6 (89) +11 (77)

Any second thoughts about the skinnying the .1?

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +3 (48) +6 (89) +11 (77)

Are you confident that you can get Weeble's numbers up even on a drop of insulin? It looks like you are fighting to keep numbers from tanking. It's your call but if Weeble will not reliably eat HC wet food or syrup, it makes it risky.

Re: 8/29 Weeble AMPS 140 +3 (48) +6 (89) +11 (77)

I agree, it's risky if you can't be 100% certain you can control the numbers. I always knew that if Lucy dropped too low, a tsp. of gravy from HC food would bump her out of the danger zone in 15 minutes. I knew she would eat the gravy, even if she was already stuffed. When we were at low doses, a tsp of low carb food would bring her up from 40's in less than 30 minutes. I don't have the same confidence that Weeble can be kept from getting too low. She dropped almost 100 points this morning before the insulin's onset, and she went to 40's from a PS of 140 this morning. It's up to you, but based on the data and the situation, I have to make it your decision. I'm not comfortable recommending that you shoot.

OTJ might work, sometimes on low doses, the higher numbers are actually caused by bounces. That could very well be the case here, so it's worth a try. If it doesn't work, we start shooting again, no big deal.

Re: 8/29 Weeble PMPM 65 AMPS 140 +11 (77) .1 sk dose reduction

I went ahead with it and put the dry food out after the shot. I put 1/3 of a cup in there which is what she eats overnight so there's no point in putting it out later; she's still going to eat the same amount.

She loves the milksip that gave her the bump earlier, so I'm much more confident having that on hand.

Fingers crossed!

Good morning! Or evening for you

50's should be monitored...about every 30 minutes, in between small snacks.
if you're still up and it's past +5, please try to get a +5 or 6 in this cycle.
