Hi LL!!

So day 3 without insulin, and Onyx is still holding in the 60's beautifully.

What do you think, is this officially an OTJ trial???? :?:

Hope everyone is doing well--and sending healing vines out to those in need today.

TOTALLY!!  Lets start counting to 14 days - you need 50-130 for that long before its official.

Hi Brandi!!! Onyx is a SUPERSTAR!!! Holy cow. I showed Bob that ONyx was already on an OTJ trial and he hung his head in shame and went back to nibbling his 20% carb dry food!!

HAPPY DAY 3!!!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwe...poor little Bobber!! I so wish he would have loved the YA like Onyx did. Have you stopped putting it out completely?

And Dara, thank you so much for everything. Onyx and I would have never made it this far, so quickly, without the YA support from you, Melanie and Kat. Onyx sends you and Bob a big-ole'-juicy-nose-kiss!

Onyx is on trial day 3,
carefree and pokie free,
11 more days to go,
come on Onyx and stay nice and low.
11 more days to get through,
and then we'll say adieu!

:RAHCAT Go Onyx, Go! Go all the way to OTJ! :RAHCAT

Re: 8/29 Onyx - AMBG=64 OTJ Trial Day 3

Wow I'm out of pocket a couple days and look what happens!!!

I looked back to see if one of us gave you the OTJ Trial instructions, but we didn't, so here you go:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

  • If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then her pancreas is working!

  • If all goes well, after 14 days, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give her the support she needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck with the trial!!

Thanks so much, Deb & Marje!!!

And like both of you, I thought Onyx had a few more more weeks to go as well. But perhaps being more aggressive the last week, and holding for 3 cycles when she hit 40-50, gave her the extra bump she needed. I sure hope so. But I'm totally prepared for her numbers to go back up a bit, since she had only been on the protocol for 5 weeks. If it does, I'll pick up where we left off. But if not, if she's truly had enough, well then GIDDY UP!!!

Thanks, Ladies! Deb, you were my greatest shoulder/teacher when I first joined FDMB...and I can never thank you enough.

Marje, you have been there for me through some scary times--and nights--and you gave me the strength to do what needed to be done.
Thank you both so much.

And CD - I got your PM about pics, so I will be pulling some together for you.

Thanks so much.
:-D

Thank you, Brandi.

I just want to be sure and note for any other new members or lurkers, Brandi made the dosing decisions for Onyx and they apply only to Onyx. Normally the reduction method of three drops between 40-50 is only done for cats which are either long term diabetics (dx more than a year) or for cats who repeatedly fail reductions. This is an aggressive method for reductions and should be used only if the caregiver has an understanding of their cats nadir, onset, and duration and overall cycle patterns and has data.
