Fairly flat from last night. He's in a slightly higher range than I want him to be, but at least he's not 300s. Gave him only 1 snack for today. We'll see what the vet says...

have a good day everyone!

Re: 8/29: Cedric amps 231

You mentioned the Vet said he wants him to eat 2 large meals a day instead of several small ones. That doesn't make sense to me. Human diabetics are always told to eat several small meals, to keep their BG stable. Why would it be any different with cats?

This is just my normal curiosity, I don't understand that. Would you ask him what the difference is, next time you talk to him, I'd really like to know what the reasoning is behind that.

As a diabetic, we're taught to eat small meals often, the intent is to have flat cycles, without the spikes and lows. Food always causes an increase, smaller meals, smaller increase. To only have 2 large meals would cause large spikes twice a day and possibly get too low in the middle. Of course that means proper, low carb food, either way. A candy bar will cause me to spike no matter how small.

Like I said, I'd really like to know if this isn't true with cats.

Cedric may not be as low as you would like, but he's below renal threshold and that's always a good thing. Take your blessings where you can get them, a wise lady once told me. :-D

Sorry I aM late posting, I ran out at about 6:40 to go meet the lady who is helping me catch some ferals at my old job. She brought the director of the clinic where they go and can I tell you she insisted on using this trap that just wasn't doing it. Part of it must have been the huge box of laundry detergent that held the thing down. The darn kitten was in there and I think she was too busy on her phone to pull the string ontime (I had binoculars). Several bug bites and no cat to show for it!

Well, let's see if I can cut and paste what the vet said:
Cedric's numbers are not all that bad although I agree that we should try to get things a little lower. His morning numbers are consistently better than the evening ones which makes me think that he is getting too much food during the day. You may want to just cut out snacks entirely or cut down the amount some. I would go ahead and increase to 2.5 like you planned and then if the pm numbers are still high but the am numbers are ok then try cutting out snacks. So you know we are well short of the dose that would be considered insulin resistance.

I loaded the syringe and twisted one twist past 2.5, so that I put down as 2.3 but I don't really know exactly what it was. We shall see. I need to go rub down or something and get a snack and get to bed. It's hot!
