BbB and BbBB? She couldn't keep on the surfboard for very long, but is coming right back down today. Might be a long night, we shall see. But we made it to the weekend!

I did get some gabapentin capsules on order for her skin or arthritis or whatever it is. Anyone have recommendations on a starting dose? I had given her liquid gaba after her dentals and that realllllly zonked her and made her sleepy. I don't remember the dosage at that time, tho. I have 100 mg capsules, so I was thinking of sprinkling 1/4 of those (25 mg) in her food for a start. I hope she takes it in her food. Otherwise I'll have to recap it in smaller capsules. The vet had some tiny tabs but I don't know if it would be easy to break those apart. We'll see, it was cheap so I'm not too worried about experimenting. I also asked about Adequan and the vet wanted to at least wait and see how the gaba and Dasequin works first. I think I have a few more weeks before the Dasequin is supposed to become effective.

I think of treating arthritis as a three pronged approach. Something for inflammation (omega-2, Duralactin), something for pain (gaba, bupe, MSM, acupuncture, Solensia), and something for the joints themselves (possibly Dasequin though it's light weight compared to Adequan, hyaluronic acid drops, Cartrophen). Neko had pretty serious arthritis. She started on 50 mg gaba - it didn't do much other then make her sleep. Then we tried 100mg, then stopped. Buprenorphine is what she needed, along with the acupuncture). But ECID on what works for each individual cat. Some do great on gaba. You will need to experiment on what works for Bell.

Thank you, Wendy, that is very helpful. And to add to the complexity, I'm still not convinced it is arthritis. She seems to run and jump and move just fine, but maybe she is just masking the pain when she is excited. I also suspected hyperesthesia, but I'm not convinced of that either. But seems like gabapentin can be helpful for both, so we'll see.
