Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

Yea, Cairo. Does he eat the food when it opens each time? It's time to put the day number of the trial in your first subject post of the day and let's make this official!!   Happy day

Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

I agree she is looking great.

Before you officially start a trial, we would like to have a chance to confer and then give you the official OTJ Trial instructions.

Did you set up a meal at +9 this morning and did she eat it? Thanks Jeannie!!!

Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

Yes, she ate at 3:30 am (which is her +9) However, I did not BG test her at 3:00 am. The last BG test she got was at 9:30 last night which was her +4 and she was at 87. This morning her AMBG was 92. The auto feeder is AMAZING!

Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

heehee i loved it too. punkin had a little affair with his autofeeder, knowing when it was going to go off, and watching it eagerly until it rotated and the goods appeared.

if you have any trouble with it not opening a compartment fully, make sure it's seated all the way. i always put it in one compartment back from where i wanted it, then did the manual rotation by pushing some button to move it forward one compartment, just to make sure it was going to open when i had it set. if it doesn't open fully, punkin couldn't get his head in to eat.

so glad to see cairo looking good still. waiting to hear from at least one other person on the OTJ trial possibility.

edited to correct typo.

Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

Yes, Cairo eats all her food ALWAYS. I have 3 cats so I'm not 100% positive it was her that ate the food but let me tell you a little secret about Cairo, she's a bully when it comes to food! So, I'm pretty sure she kicked the others out of the way when the auto feeder rotated open. You'll have to visualize her doing that...yes, it's exactly what you picture in your head! If you look up "bully cats" in the dictionary... Cairo's picture will be there!

BTW...all the compartments were empty this morning!

Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

Mocha (peterdevonmocha) had a fondness for the humidifier that Devon ran in the house. She called it Hoomy, if i remember correctly. She liked to hang out by it. Wendy's Neko loves her "Otto" too.

I can picture her quite well! :-D

Re: 8/28Cairo AMBG 92

You're lucky...Trix LUVs to eat, but never took to her autofeeder, and it would help her so much if she would use it.

Anyway, it's official...OTJ trial time for Cairo!! Since Cairo is already 3 days in, today is actually "OTJ Trial Day 3" !!!

Here are the OTJ Trial instrutions:

Start the trial on his next green preshot.

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!

If he gets through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic, but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low-carb food and small meals for the rest of his life. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood sugar weekly for the next few months and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him monthly. His weight should remain stable. If he seems "off" or sick, or is showing symptoms of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss) test his blood sugar right away. Keep the teeth clean; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission.

If you see rising blood sugar numbers, post here before you restart insulin and ask for advice on how to proceed.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions!! Now, Cairo, let's show 'em how it's done!

Yes, Neko loves Otto, her autofeeder, although she did have a brief affair with DH's air compressor tires until he put it back in the workshop.

Congratulations on the trial Jeannie and Cairo. Great start so far. Good luck.
